Looks better the more we see.

So, anyone have any ideas what we will get to see around Comic-con? More pics? Trailer? A panel?

Mamoa still looks like a stick, a muscular stick, but still a stick. But it's not like you can change that, you are pretty much born with your build.

That said, this Conan looks surprisingly good. He will be the least problem of the movie.

Stephen Lang said in his interview that Mamoa out weighed him by 35 pounds, thats pretty good I think Cause Lang Looked pretty beefy in Avatar.

looking at the set pics at the conanmovieblog leaves me no doubt that this will be rated r

If I don't see topless wenches writhing around, this film is fail.

Yeah, he looks badass. For those complaining that he's not as big as Arnold, seriously, get over it... at least he's not running around in leather briefs.

Wow, the negative Conan Fanbaggers are already turning away from Jason not looking the part (side by side art to photo tends to shut people up), to nit picking stupid stuff like complaining about the Sword he has wielding. Which looks like a standard War Sword to me, with some added details. You know people need a smack when they mention about it not being faithful, then say something about the "riddle of Steel" two sentences later.

I like the "your about to die" look he is giving in that pick, plenty intimadating to me. The scars look good too, for those complaining that there were none before.

...you gotta love what one of em' said about our positive thoughts here at Superhero Hype:

"False posters who actually work for the promo of the film appear on public boards also, it's a true fact.
Perhaps their hunting ground is the Superhero Hype, a forum much more appropriate to spread rumors amongst typical superhoero geeks who live only for two things: their beloved superheroes and being connected 24h/24h on the forums."

:whatever:

Yeah, here is part of the discussion..

Yeah I'm bringing up the subject again, it's ridiculous to hear all that praise for a casting that's NOT... "spot on" . Are some PAID to say such things as "spot on"?
[/quote]

I can't imagine what you'd think of the posters over at Superhero Hype. The reaction over there is so far very positive. They seem to get excited with each new picture of Momoa.

Take a guess for me ;)

Happily, we don't see that kind of thing here, well apart from a few exceptions, like this post link from HArd HEro (the figurine company) who, to make it short, is just asking us to put all our TRUST in the producing team and that the flick will be undoubtfully fantastic. (Remember the cartoon guys with CASH symbols in the eyes, that's it)

Now usual geeks will BLINDLY follow the trend and scream without end that they're avidly awaiting the upcoming movie.

Momoa looks "kind of OK" , but I didn't wait so MANY friggen years to see JUST AN "OK" Conan movie, is that clear for the director, producers etc? With all that CASH put into it, is that as hard as they can try?

Bunch of stuck up chumps calling us geeks, thats pretty funny

^That's quite funny, i post over there sometimes, but have not been over for a couple of days, so have not read those comments.

The thing is, I can understand them having problems with the script if they have been party to reading some of it's ideas. But, having a problem with other people feeling positive about the actor who is portraying Conan? Ach, just let them get on with it, i will be quite happy playing with my Mego Conan figure in the bathtub while waiting on the Conan the Barbarain tie in shampoo('Crompoo' with 'Cromditioner') that will soon be available once the movie is released, as of course that is what it's all about.

I am just waiting to see what the movie is about before jumping to harsh conclusions, yes, maybe the producers lied about being faithful to the books, but the script they came up with might be good anyway. One of the scriptwriters has siad that he found it difficult giving the conan of the books an arc, so they came up with their own origin story. REH never wrote a definitive origin story, so there is a gap there.
As long as the character is faithful in tone and spirit, maybe they can then adapt some of the REH stories more faithfully in sequels. There are some crackers I have read in SSoC I would love to see onscreen.

edit: Harry Knowles over at aicn said he read the Conan script and liked it, and the writers have now been signed up by Marvel to write the Dr Strange movie, so they must be doing something right, i hope.

there are other photos that have been doing the rounds btw, 3 on-set photos of Mamoa in action, swinging his sword at a monster type guy, who is bald and completely white. The monster guy is doing a somersault over Conan's sword swing.

Mamoa looks great in the pics, he is wearing a long kilt/skirt thing, that looks a little too long, but looks good in the way of a superhero's cape, folded over like that.
Folk pointed out it is to cover up his relatively skinny legs, ok, fair enough, but it still looks good.

I really just find generalization comments like that stupid, especially someone from one genre site talking smack on people on another genre site. About a character that has been adopted in various forms of Multi-media. Yeah, we are the geeks over here...

I been lurking there for a while, the Fanbagger crap just got old really fast between the delusional people wanting a complete literal Howard translation, and the Arnold people who think the character needs to look like a oiled up 'roid Gorilla.

...and also, regarding the script, co-producer Fredrick Malmberg stated in his latest post at the Conan forums that there have been ten rewrites or so since the first leaked one that the "purists" are moaning about. So, the thing is that we won't know if it is good or bad until there is an actual review of the working script or the actual film.

I just post what i think, regardless of what is being said around me. It's quite interesting over there I think, some interesting characters. But the gripes can get samey, mind you, I am over at the Spider-man boards here a lot, and the same could be said about certain posters on those boards.
and to be fair, their forum was commented on in this thread before they commented on the one over here.

But, yeah, there have been posts over there that the people who are looking forward to this movie are more commercially minded, or ignorant. But, that is the way of the hardcore fan sometimes, I can understand fans wanting a literal translation of the books, it has happened with LOTR and Harry Potter. But i don't think they should be calling into question other fans credibility if they are liking what they see so far.

I have still not read REH's original stories, apart from their comic book adaptations, so am new to this party, but I still consider myself a Conan fan and am excited to see this movie. Some people like the script, Mamoa has apparently been a good character in Stargate Atlantis, so has some charisma on him, and he has been studying the REH texts to channel the chatacter, it is a 100mil budget...it could be a good movie.

someone over there said that some daft ideas had been taken out of teh script, some old woman that turns into a werewolf(?) has been taken out, and some mutant archer or something, lol. But that is great, if some outright stupid S&S ideas have been removed. I don't know how these guys know this, so maybe someone is getting the facts from somewhere on the script progress, and they may know some info about the re-writes.
The simple fact is, they have decided to start off with an origin story, REH did not write a definitive origin story for Conan, there is no Batman:Year One for them to dip into like Nolan did with Batman Begins, so I am prepared to accept what they have come up with.
I just hope it does good enough numbers to warrent a sequel, stories that can then do REH the honour of faithfully adapting some of his stories.
It would be great if it did 300 type numbers, probably not, but hopefully it will be a hit.

If it can make "sleeper-hit" numbers like "Clash of The Titans", that would suffice.

Well, I caught Solomon Kane not that long ago and was very happy with it, and personally, given the production values, I would be happy with Conan being closer to that than the Milnus opus (which i love for what it is, just like the Burton Batman). I don't want to rag on the other site too much, but they (like most recent internet Fanbagging) just seem interested in picking everything apart. I'm so tired of that mentality, but it's inescapable anymore on these types of sites.
