Brett Ratner to direct CONAN..?

Singer at least has the passion (or it seems like it) when he directs.

Ratner is a tool. Anytime I see a picture of him, I just wanna punch him in the face.

I like Uwe Boll better

:o just kidding--hate both of them

And he did the freaking Usual Suspects and X2. People seem to forget he made of the best comic book sequels of all time. Too bad. They are just blinded by SR and completely disregard him and his past great work.

I AGREE.

It's like how I would defend poor Sam Raimi for Spider-Man 3. You know that part 2 is hailed as one of the best comic book movies out there? I guess the fanboys beg to differ.

Samething with the guy who made Superman 2 (and 3). Yeah, 3 sucked, and part 2 was tainted with production problems, but hell..he has made great movies in the past: Hard Day's Night, and the Three Musketeers (with Michael York).

Ratner is a one genre director he should stick to films like Money talks and the Rush Hour franchises. I just dont think he has the imagination to pull of Conan but hey I guess we will have to wait and see.

The thing with the Rat is that it all depends on the script.

Otherwise, he's a glorified Yes Man. The reason he gets projects is because, if you think about it, his movies DO make money. And most likely, he's a great businessman behind the scenes, which makes me believe that studios love him. But I don't.

Usual Suspect = overrated, it wasnt a bad film but it wasnt brilliant. The only good thing about that film was the twist at the end. And then we get on to X2 which I thought was complete and utter rubbish just like Xmen. To me Singer as a director is a mehhhhhhhhhhhhhh between medicore and decent.

I guess the point being is that at least Singer loves his craft, like him or not. Or he shows it. Ratner is a studio goon (or shows it).

I do hope you would rather have Singer direct over Ratner then?

Exactly. One year, they're God. They screw up or it doesn't meet their expectations, fanboys whine and say reboot or bash them.

You'll refuse this, but if Nolan ever screws up, the same damn thing will happen.

I know merchandising is dying to make this a PG-13 to tie-in toys and kids' meals, but I am saying right now...do NOT do this. I don't care if the Rat is directing, keep it R. I want boobs all over the place and curvy women in chain mail thongs. :cmad:

Amen! Keep the skimpy clothed women to breasts in every shot. :woot:

But yeah, they did say they wanted it to be rated R. If this works it could be as successful as 300.

Thing is, problem with Destroyer was that they made it a PG movie.

My problem with Ratner is that he seems to have a huge ego and highly inflated sense of self with his work. I dare you to listen to his commentary for Rush Hour 3. Non-stop he constantly references the fact that they are making A VERY REAL THRILLER. He kept using those words VERY REAL THRILLER. It's almost as if he was talking about making the Bourne Ultimatum. Now I listen to Greengrass's commentary, and he comes across nowhere near as arrogant or uses that kind of wordage for the Bourne movies.

So I think that's what annoys me about Ratner, his ego and his arrogance. If was more honest about it, saying like we wanted to combine elements of a wacky buddy comedy with elements of a real thriller with some cool action scenes I might not have been so bothered. Ratner acts like his movies are like Michelangelo paintings. He has no humility at all.

I wonder if Ratner was again the "last" choice to direct this. I remember seeing quite a big list of names who took meetings with the producers.

He probably is. I mean, the guy's directing ads for the wii! (or something like that :whatever:9

Thing is though. Ratner works with a lot of top industry talent, and he generally has a good track record with big budget blockbusters. Not to mention that he'll get legends to work on his films even though they are really lame, one note performances (see Rush Hour 3).

See.. he directed Roman Polanski. He! Directed Roman Polanski! It's a f**cked up irony, if you ask me

That's the thing though. Ratner makes mediocre versions of what should be better movies.

See Red Dragon and X-men 3 compared to Man Hunter and X-men 1/2. I mean, him doing Conan, ugh.

Thing is, Ratner I think deep down wants to be one of these all time great directors like Spielberg, Scorcese, Soderbergh, etc. but he never will be. He's the definition mainstream directing hack IMHO. I mean those guys do a heist movie, and Ratner does After The Sunset. Someone does The Bourne Ultimatum, and Rat does Rush Hour 3 and exclaims it to be a VERY REAL THRILLER.

Good news = Rat does not do God of War movie.

Red Dragon.. oh well.. this thread made me feel bad about Red Dragon. Again.

I'll admit; i liked 'Destroyer' as a kid. As i grew up, I realized that the first one was much better. I guess 'Destroyer' has those fantasy elements are were more visually amazing than in the original.
