Confirmed - Bioshock on PS3!

The developers of Mass Effect actually said that? We do know that they have confirmed that they are working on a PS3 game, everyone just assumed it would be a version of Dragon Age.

Considering that Mass Effect is being published by Microsoft, that's quite impossible/improbable.

The PS3 doesn't need Mass Effect. That would be asking for too much. It is being published by MS, but it is going to the PC IMO so MS does not have the rights to it. They financed it and are delivering it to consumers, but I'm not sure if that means that they have the rights to it. Couldn't they just get another publisher if they wanted it on PC, for instance? Bioware is an independent company that has allied itself with MS...ostensibly at least. With something like Naughty Dog it's different. SOny owns all or at least partially all of their stock. They are the parent company.

Mass Effect will never come to PS3. Bioshock could and I also believe Conviction is a timed exclusive. I have no proof of that though. I...gotta feelin'.

Well with Peter Moore basically saying that both games are 'Exclusive to our platform this year' it leads you to wonder.

You do realize that MS supports the platform that they're releasing it for on PC, right? It's a little OS called Windows. They're doing the same thing with Halo, but that doesn't mean they don't have rights to it. At the very least, MS has a contractual agreement with BioWare that binds them to an exclusive agreement. Hence the reason why MS would publish it themselves.

Here's a hint: The more copies it sells overall, the more money MS makes. Which would explain why it's going to PC. Just like most of the exclusives that MS has. The PC doesn't belong to one company, it belongs to many. Though for every game released on the Windows OS, MS gets more money.

Maybe because they are both exclusives, for the platform, that are coming out this year? It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out. Sheesh, how one simple turn of phrase can raise such "deep thought" is amazing.

I never questioned the fact that they're getting paid from it. They need to, all things considered. You were right about the PC version. For some reason, I keep thinking about FFVII when I think about the PC and publishing and not the fact that...it's Microsoft.

SPOnG: What happened to the PS3 version?

Ken Levine: If I talk about anything outside of the Xbox 360 version, my corporate overlords will spank me. We love the 360, we love working on it and we’re not talking about any other versions right now.

SPOnG: Was it the case that Microsoft splashed the cash then?

Ken Levine: My friend, I can say nothing more – except that we’ve had great support from Microsoft.

If you want this game and you don't have a 360 or gaming rig PC, you can afford to wait.

Uhm......WHAT THE F**K? LOL Microsoft ruling these companies with an iron first. hahah I love it I love it. That has the stench of timed exclusive all over it. And notice that he mentions a "PS3 version" that had existed before hand. We shall see though

*puts on flame suit*

Well, actually he didn't mention it, the interviewer did. :cwink:

Actually, I think Mass Effect might be possible. Bioware does own the IP.

Though Microsoft is the publisher. I think there's probably some sort of publisher agreement set in place that only allows for the game to appear on certain consoles as the publisher sees fit. And Microsoft isn't going to let go of a game that easily. If they're publishing it, there has to be some sort of contract in place. And BioWare will be ****ed if they break contract with MS.

Aw come on, man. I can't get s**t here, can I? :woot:

It makes no difference. I just want to play Bioshock....badly. Since I'm getting a 360, I'll most likely play it there.

Edit: Yeah I'm sure MS paid for it, so no it won't go to PS3. See, if they just were in charge of its release, they wouldn't have as stringent a contract. So, if I pay you to make something for me, then you turn around and use my money for my archrival, I would kill you!

BioShock is eventually going to Ps3.
People STILL need to realize that big 3rd party exclusives are over.

I know that they're the publisher, so it's not the most likely thing in the world, but it is a possibility I think. I don't know what kind of deal Microsoft has with Bioware, but if it's just the usual publishers contract with no extra strings, then Bioware should be able to shop the game around to other publishers for other platforms after a set amount of time. I'm pretty sure MSG published Jade Empire before Bioware took it to 2k games for the PC version.

More like we can afford to make you wait. ;)

But PC and PS3 are two different things, my friend. I can't see MS ever limiting a games release to the PC through contract. Though, I can easily see them doing everything in their power to keep every game they can out of Sony's hands. This is the multi-billion dollar corporate giant we're talking about. They will shell out outlandish amounts of cash to rain on Sony's parade, it's what they do.

If MGS4 has a 1% chance of going to the 360, then Mass Effect has a .01% chance of going to the PS3.

The developer (Bioware) owns the IP, but the publisher (Microsoft) owns the code. (Sometimes the publisher owns the IP but these days developers hold onto their IP dearly). Anyway, Mass Effect will never be on the PS3, and since Bioware and Microsoft have a three-game deal, Mass Effect 2 and 3 will be Xbox exclusives as well. Mass Effect 4-100 can go where ever Bioware wants, as long as the game publisher complies (i.e. if Microsoft opts to publish Mass Effect 4 and Bioware agrees, it's not going to be on the PlayStation.

Microsoft worked out a deal with 2K games to give them publishing rights, much in the same way they let them handle Dungeon Siege from here out. Bioware can't just take the code to 2K games and say "Mass produce, ship and market this".

As the owner of the code, Microsoft would not work out a deal with a publisher if they were going to port it to the PS3. They would never sign to a contract like that.

I don't think they'll spend money just for the hell of it. After, lets say 2 years, after that amount of time, how many PS3s is Mass Effect really going to move? Not that many, if any, and that would be Microsoft's only stake in it, so I don't think they would bother doing anything to stop it. And regardless, I'm not even sure they could. I don't really know what their deal with Bioware is like. I really don't think it's going to happen, but it's possible I guess.

Mass Effect - PS3 edition is a 100% certainty, and it will probably dominate the 360 version. Accept it

Yeah, I know. Microsoft, like I said, will do anything in their power to keep blockbuster games out of Sony's hands. Bill Gates would probably rather give all of his fortune to the starving children of Africa than let one more exclusive fall into Sony's lap. Microsoft is probably the most skillful company when it comes to forcing unbreakable contracts.

How could it not? With 4-D graphics running at 120 frames per second and real-time-weapon-change... the 360 is owned.

OFCOURSE IT IS!!!:o (LOOKS AT WHF HOLDING THE HEAVENLY SWORD) WHAT??? WAIT, NO, NO STOP, IT WAS A JOKE, IT WAS A JOKE, NO NOT THOSE I NEED THOSE, AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!:eek::eek::oldrazz::D:up:

If MGS4 has a 99% chance of going to the 360, Mass Effect would still have a 0% chance of going on the PS3. It's not even a third party game for crying out loud!

Why the hell are we even talking about a PS3 version of Mass Effect anyways!

Because some people are hopelessly idealistic and are living in a dream world where, in time, even Halo could go to the PS3. Oh, they are also lacking in reading comprehension, as well.
