From the Lauren Shuler Donner interview at IESB.net:

IESB: Are we ever going to see a sequel to Constantine?

LSD: Yes, you might, you might.

IESB: With Keanu?

LSD: Yes, with Keanu [Reeves]. We have been working with a team of writers to come up with a story and yeah, you will.

IESB: What can we look forward to in the Constantine sequel?

LSD: We are really going to go for it this time. The area that we found is great...it's really scary, it's good…

IESB: Taking it to London?

LSD: No...another country though, you're right, it's outside of America.

IESB: Same director?

LSD: No, different director, but Francis [Lawrence] will produce it with us. We will try to maintain his vision.

Great news as far as I'm concerned. I just fear that they are going to move further away from the source and that John wont smoke this time.
So what do you want to see in the sequel?

GREAT NEWS !!!!!!!!!!! :woot: :woot:
Big fan of the Hellblazer series AND the movie itself.

Ít's funny how people say that they stray away too much from the source yet if you read the latest HellBlazer Graphic Novels , they're more like the movie. I mean All His Engines , Black Sepulchure etc.

Anyways i'd love more of Keanu being cynical and of course He needs to smoke dammit !
More Peter Stormare as Lucifer . And mebbe if they try , they can also try some cynical satirical humor with Constantine. Kinda like how they did it in the graphic novel Son Of Man . The part where Constantine's dad sucks dick in hell and the demon having a 1 metre penis. That was funny !
The only sad part is that Francis LAwrence won't be directing this flick :csad: . Really sad to hear that . Even tough he's producing it's just that his vision was fundamental in creating the great look of the flick.

I hate the part about Lawerence not directing.
Otherwise:up:

Yes!!!!!!
I love the first one, and even though Lawrence is not directing, I'm glad he's still involved.

I was starting to think that WB wisened up for once.

Yup... the ending of the first movie, where he
takes one of those nicotine gums instead of a cigarette
was really damn disappointing. Constantine doesn't grow and become a better person, it's not his schtick. ;)

Great News!

I thought the first film was pretty damn good...looking forward to the Hellblazer's next journey!

BTW, it should be called something like 'Hellblazer: Constantine II'.

CAH

I like Keanu and I liked Constantine and I'm a huge fan of the Hellblazer series in general. Hopefully the sequel lets Keanu portray Constantine the right and faithful way.

All I ask is for Constantine to be an *******, an intelligent bastard, and one who equally hates both Heaven and Hell.

I hope they also adapt his story of the Newcastle incident and him feeling guilty for the death of Astra. Part of what was missing in Constantine was how he uses people for his own gain. He doesn't really give a **** if they die or not, just as long as he doesn't end up dead.

He needs to be haunted continually by those spirits. I hope the sequel expands on that concept too.

I actually thought that was pretty ****ing funny. They could just say in the sequel that he started smoking again because he realised that he didn't give a ****.

Anyway, while I actually liked the first film (non British Constantine aside), I do hope that they concentrait on non Judeo-Christian concepts in the sequel. Hellblazer (and the DCU in general) has a mariad of mythologies to draw from. 'Course, if they want to ease into other stuff, it might be cool to see him going up againts beings from the Voodoo traditions, as many modern day practitioners of Voodoo blend their traditions with those of Catholicism.

As much as I liked Constantine, he kinda lost his edge since he is now redeemed and will go to heaven when he dies. He's not fighting for anything now (except for the regular hero stuff that really isnt up his alley)

You're forgeting a few things:

1) Constantine would rather be alive than go to Heaven, so you can get plenty of stories about him fighting for his own survival.

2) He's a humanist. He'll drop (some of) his ego and risk himself if others are getting pushed around, even though he'll still be a dick about it.

I hope it happens. Lauren might have more push than the guys handling Wonder Woman. We might get Constantine 2 first.

This is good news, i liked the first movie a lot, just a shame that FL wont direct.

F'in A!

The first movie got me into the novels and after reading the novels I felt kind of let down with the movie - so much material yet they diluted it too much. Hopefully more better use of source material this time!

Wow I'm pumped!

I liked the first flick. The video game was damn fun too. Looking forward to more. :)

Like I said, centering the next plot around Voodoo would be great. It's got alot of really wierd mythology, but modern versions of it are mixed with enough Judeo/Christian concepts to make it a comfortable transiton.

Too bad Lawrence won´t direct, but it´s good to hear he´ll produce.

I've never read any of the comics but I thought the first film was cool, so if they're gonna do a sequel all I can say is that I hope they don't drop the ball.

The fact that Lawerence isn't directing has me worried, but I have faith in them.

"LSD: We are really going to go for it this time"

i wish they woulda really went for it the first time.

Great news, too bad FL isn't returning but hopefully they find someone good to direct it. Can't wait to see it.

Constantine, yuk! The first one may have been the worst movie I have had the displeasure of sitting through.
