Maybe it's a bit predictable of someone with a profile name/avvy like mine to be making a thread about this little animated movie, but I haven't seen any other threads for it and I think it turned out great, and is probably my favorite DC animated flick (when it comes to current ones anyway ) . I'd honestly take a full-on show of this instead of a revival of the live action series, but that's just me I guess, lol

I'm glad someone else watched this. REALLY enjoyed this one. Definitely DC's most adult animated movie ever. The first 20 mins were a little slow for me but when the story got going it was engaging. I was surprised how cvharacter oriented it was and the lack of action. I dont think it'll appeal to everyone but its definitely one of DC's stronger efforts.

Looking forward to seeing this. I read that it's set in the same continuity as the Justice League Dark animated movie, rather than the CW.

This was better written than most live-action movies. Watched it as soon as I realized it was in the same verse as JL:Dark. Matt Ryan really deserves a chance to play the character in a serious setting in a feature length movie with a big budget.

I didn't see the final bit coming, and quite like the back story they gave John.

Oh, they definitely did the unthinkable at the end. Chas and John have had their disputes before but I'd say there's definitely no way of repairing their friendship after this movie.

Gotta admit there were some bits that made me really squirm and feel uncomfortable and for a cartoon thats saying something. They really went DARK in some parts of this.

Oh yeah for sure - they definitely made you realize how dark constantine could be - I always think what it would be like for someone like Superman or Batman seeing the things that constantine sees on a regular basis and how he would deal with it.

Particularly the one scene where he visits Beroul's house, and is just watching people getting tortured, and knowing there is nothing he can do about it, so he just stays focused on one thing at a time.

It's definitely a recurring theme that is really well orchestrated about the movie that there are grave consequences to every action he makes particularly dealing with the dark arts.

Yes, that scene really made me feel uncomfortable, I almost had to pause the movie and take a minute cause it was so intense. But as I understand it this is just Constantine's world and the books are like this too.

Oh, this is very much in line with the Vertigo Hellblazer series (truth be told, the Hellblazer series is often WORSE, but this gets pretty close) , which is what I was hoping the live action series could be more like, but they could only go so far at that time...

If im correct this is the first time we've seen Constantine smoke right in one of these things, right?

Animated, yes. The live action series sorta gradually snuck it in and made it more and more prominent in each ep.

It annoyed me how he'd take like two drags of a full cig and then just chuck it to the floor throughout the finale tho lol

His Newcastle backstory is even more horrifying in the comic.

John is left holding Astra's severed arm when he tries to grab her as the portal hell close.

Chas isn't at the Casanova Club in the comics but a gang of John Constantine's other friends are and almost all of them end up getting scarred by the incident in some way.

Let's not forget that Astra was being used in a child sex ring...

It would've ****ed me up if they kept the whole "John walking through hell with Astra and coming back with only her arm" thing

Holy that's dark. Not surprised they didn't include that.

I really liked this film. I never opened a Constantine comic before but now I'm tempted to read Hellblazer.

I cannot imagine that this thing sold well but I'm glad they did it hope we somehow get more.

I do think it's a perfect introduction to Constantine for newcomers but yeah, people do tend to have short attention spans nowadays so I hope they don't get "bored" since anything with dialogue for a certain stretch of time is "boring" and "slow" to people nowadays :whatever:
