Adaptation Of DC Comics’ Constantine From Daniel Cerone & David Goyer Lands At NBC
EXCLUSIVE: Warner Bros. TV and DC Comics are on a roll this development season with a third high-profile project. Constantine, a drama based on the characters in DC Comics’ John Constantine stories, has sold to NBC with penalty. It is written/executive produced by The Mentalist executive producer Daniel Cerone and David S. Goyer, the go-to writer for Warner Bros.’ feature DC adaptations. Constantine centers on John Constantine, an enigmatic and irreverent con man-turned-reluctant supernatural detective who is thrust into the role of defending us against dark forces from beyond.

John Constantine, who first appeared in 1985 as a recurring character in the horror series The Saga Of The Swamp Thing, was created by Alan Moore, Steve Bissette and Jamie Delano. He was portrayed by Keanu Reeves in the 2005 feature Constantine and is rumored to be featured in the Justice League Dark feature Warner Bros. has in the works with Guillermo del Toro.

Constantine joins Warner Bros. TV/DC’s The Flash at the CW, a spinoff from hit Arrow, and a Gotham City/Commissioner Gordon drama at Fox, which has a series commitment. WME-repped Goyer has co-written The Dark Knight, The Dark Knight Rises, Batman Begins, Man Of Steel and the upcoming Batman vs. Superman. On TV, he is the creator/executive producer of Starz’s Da Vinci’s Demons. WME-repped Cerone is the creator/executive producer of Canadian drama Motive, which aired on ABC this summer and is awaiting a second-season renewal.

WB going all in with the TV adaptations. Wouldn't be surprised if we hear about that Booster Gold project at SyFy getting the greenlight soon. I have a hard time believing all these shows will be in the same universe though, let alone connected with the movies...which I guess for DC is fine since there comics were never really as connected as Marvel's were.

Yeah none of them will be connected. Unless they make a Flash spinoff to Arrow

Flash and Arrow are going to be connected. But that's it. Really doubt Gotham and Constantine will...which doesn't really matter since they so disconnected from those other two shows anyway.

I'd like it to be open to interpretation if they're connected or not, Constantine's story probably won't feature anything that will contradict events in other DC shows/movies

This is sweet news though, it'll be like Supernatural

Robert Kazinsky or Charlie Hunnam (Pacific Rim co-stars) could both do a good job I think. Both are Brits as well.

just hope this doesn't change things for Del Toro's Dark Justice

Cool, I love that blonde haired British bastard. I wonder what this means for GDT's JLD movie?

Get an unknown who actually fits the character.
NBC's Hannibal is incredible so I'm hopefully but I would watch this regardless as I love the character.

Kinda excited by this, but is Grimm still going? I could see confusion with GA with both shows being on NBC.
No Keanu Reeve please. :o

Not gonna lie, I love the movie!

The only reason someone can actually like that movie, is that he is not a fan of the Hellblazer comics. For me, this movie is pretty close to Batman and Robin, Jonah Hex in the "OH MY GOD, IT HURTS SO MUCH!" category, its not even funny. Boy, do I hate it. It also irks me a tiny bit when people defend the movie, without ever reading the comics. No matter the quality... as a Constantine movie its a full on americanized Hollwood rape of Hellblazer. No two ways about it.

But back to the show. John is my third favorite fictional character of all time, so I really hope they go dark, british and nihilistic with this one. No new 52 Constantine and no "holy shotgun" using, "white Blade" Keanu version either.

If they take the source seriously, they have a hit on their hands. Most magic in Hellblazer is understated, so they wouldn't need to have a big CGI budget for every episode and its something that hasn't been done before, since John doesn't actually fight demons with punches or weapons, but by outsmarting them. He is a cerebral manipulator, not a fighter, much like the Doctor, from Doctor Who.

The Devil is well played though.

i'm a little worried that since it's on NBC it'll probably be watered down and won't take inspiration from the original vertigo hellblazer series and instead from the ****** new 52 constantine. i mean sure, NBC has hannibal , which is pretty horrific, but i think nbc might have a double standard when it comes to foul mouthed magicians. i could see a hellblazer series working on amc or FX or something. or rather, HBO or showtime so that it's completely uncensored.

I realize Constantine is nothing like the books, but I still loved the movie for what it was. It's not a bad movie by any means

I'll only watch if Swamp Thing is in it too.

For me, Zatanna is a must. Also, NBC has L&O: SVU, which has really horrific stuff in it, so I'm not worried.

i can't imagine law and order being that bad, but hannibal is EXTREMELY horrifying, and full of gore. so that's one necessity for a hellblazer show checked off. but we're gonna miss out on the cursing, sex, nudity , drinking , occasional pot smoking , etc. that constantine usually gets up to. or used to anyway until the new 52 crap and DC comics decided to *****fy him. i really HATE the double standards of censorship. oh yea, sure , you can cut that guy's face up and pull and push down on his jaw wide open and give him the hugest , goriest glasgow smile possible , or show a man pushing his thumbs into a woman's eye sockets, or make a friggin' totem pole out of human corpses, but no boobies, okay ? and wash that dirty mouth of yours , son.

you know what, now that i've been sort of getting into sons of anarchy, i wouldn't really mind charlie hunnam in the role. i can't comment on robert though cause i dont believe i've seen him in anything. he definitely has the look though.

i've already listed **** loads of casting suggestions for constantine in the heaven sent thread. lol

I'm a big Hellblazer fan and I'll admit the Constantine movie is serviceable if you have never read the comics but as an adaptation of the comics its not a good adaptation.

The NBC show is probably going to be set in the U.S. rather than London which is to be expected I suppose although I do hope the character remains British. I also prefer John Constantine be based in New York like he is in the current comics and when he was with Emma rather than LA.

New York is more like London than LA and just feels more like a place lots of weird occult stuff would go down than Los Angles does.
