Constantine

I love everything about this movie.
I couldn't care less if it's like the comicbook or not.

Exactly.

Screw whiney bit*ches like Movie205. I can't stand losers like that who think everything they love is the best thing since sliced bread.

I'm actually glad it ''raped'' the comic if it upset people like him :D

But right on Gammy, this movie rocked!

I'm going indulge this conversation further becuase I enjoy futile flamewars with the close-minded... Read my posts, I said... He's a geek hence why he likes it, I'm a whiney ***** because I don't like hte movie you like? By the logic in which everyone's complaining about me, aren't you guys doing the same thing? Here is the funny thing which I seem to face quite a bit on these boards, I'm accused of thinking my opinion is the only one but in actuallity... Is it because I'm the only one that actually provides reasons to go with my opinon and I'm able to argue my opinion and will argue it? Is it because my opinion is different than yours you say this? Please ponder this all for a moment...

Let me guess you love Eqiulibrium and Serenity too right? Oh and Bruce Campbell is your Lord and Savior, it was a sin that Bubba-Ho Tep wasn't nominated for anything and Batman Begins should of been noimated for best script? Do any of these ring true with you, answer honestly now...

if you don't like Firefly/Serenity you're a god damn idiot who's probably only saying you dont like it cause everyone else does like it, and you think it's cool to be unlike everyone else :o

I feel like I have to step in.
I don't want Horrofan to get into trouble because of a flame-war. He's a very good friend and tried to defend me, is all.

I didn't want to say this, but the thing is, you come off as a bit of a prick, particularly after saying stuff like I don't like things based on "good story-telling, but things that are badass, uber cool and **** like that", and that geeks probably don't read most of the time, or something?

Yes, I have read 'Brave New World', '1984', etc, and I do realize that 'Equilibrium' is a 'rip-off' of that with cool ation sequences.

And yes, I read a lot, just like a lot of geeks, regular folks, and conossieurs like yourself.

I also love movies that have "good story-telling", but I really don't feel like typing the super long list of favorite movies I have.

Point is, that generalization is a bit silly, and that does nothing but make you look like a snob, which granted, you probably don't care about, because I guess you work in the movie business in some kind of way.

Hope I'm not sounding like a prick now, I'm not angry or starting a fight, I just felt I had to post this because 2 times now you've said I agreed with you. It wasn't really an agreement, it was more like a "sure " thing, you know?

Rant over :)

I am an opinionated person but I come to these boards and repeatly I see some pretty sad stuff. From the majority of people ranting about how the Academy Awards don't mean anything because Batman didn't get nominated and it's full of old people who know nothing, Pulp Fiction is greatest movie ever!!!! When they don't seem to realize that it's just pulp the same pulp stories that have been around forever. The type that love mediocrity simply because it's flashy and what not. I mean look at what I said about Constantine, I Called it Mediocre, Mediocre is not bad, though it could potentially be consider worse because of it, it just means it's the same cookie-cutter crap we've seen over and over again, yet the mass reguritate again and praise it as high cinema. Don't get me wrong I enjoy it, but as a lover of film, to really have that kind of passion for something, it pains me to see this, mainly because it's obvious Francis Lawerence has talent, but hopefully he sees the flaws in his first work and improves. Am I a prick at times? Yes... Why am I a prick? Because geeks love to praise mediocrity for some reason, and I merely speak the truth. For example Jessica Alba, who in there right ****in mind could consider her a decent actress at all? Don't get me wrong I don't think I'm an elitist because look at my posts, I'm one of the people who actually liked Fast and the Furious 3 and is constantly saying how about we wait and see on a movie, but if you have an opinion on a movie that's different than mine, expect to be ready to debate it because that's why I'm here, the discussion of movies, and getting a greater understanding. Not simply...

"This is cool" and "That was awesome"... As for hte questions I asked, I'm sorry but you fit into the mold absolutely perfectly because the movies I list are nothing more than fan-boy ejaculation movies, Equilibrium? Come on, people love it because it makes them feel deep while watching an action movie. The same goes with Kevin Smith, who could be a decent story-teller, if he stuck to scripts and didn't use his characters as soap-boxes.

As for not caring because "I work in the film industry", I don't care because it's the internet, and I don't know you people.

:( Joker, we go way back and this is how you treat me... Serenity I've actually kind of put on the status, of perhaps it's a supplement movie like French Connection 2 is, and you need to see the series to understand it's greatness, but from what I saw it felt like fanboy ejaculation. Space-Melo Drama, Bad-ass hot chick, sword fights, zombies in space, yada-yada

I luffffed it. I still watch it sometimes. Was a decent adaptation but it could have been so much better.

Since the moment you stated that we are celebrating mediocrity, like you are the judge of taste, as a fact, that's how I see your posts. So carry on , because your opinion means pretty much nothing to me :D

If you talk like your **** don't stink, and everything you like is perfect and everything people like but you don't is crappy, then I think you can go piss off, because you are worthless in my eyes.

There's a difference between being opinionated, and being a prick. You don't have the market cornered on taste, and if you cant accept some people like what you don't, then you shouldn't be on a discussion board.

I hate stuart gordon movies, but I don't think people who hate them are stupid idiots who celebrate crap (even though I think it is, THEY don't think so, and that's what matters).

So when you want to talk sense and not like an elitest ass, I will listen. till then, carry on with the ''blah blah'' because your opinion is of no meaning or relevence to me.

We seem to be taking this a bit too far, I think it's best if we stick to Constantine.
For example, for those who know the graphic novels....what are the differences?

Major one, Constantine is blonde and very British.

I mean I guess I understand hate for the changes, but I love the movie very much..So while I have sympathy for fans of the comic, I still think it's a very good movie if you take it on it's own merits.

I've read Hellblazer "Dangerous Habits"(What the movie is supposely based on) and the Alan Moore Swamp Thing run in which Constantine first appeared, and the new swamp thing series which he also appears. So I have a firm basis for the character but no where near as knowledgable about him as others, for instance Eric Draven the Constantine Guru on these boards.

First off I'm nto against changes and reimaginings if they're good, but here Constantine was just used as an excuse to make a Buffy-theVampire/Blade wanna-be kind of like how Underworld is nothing but an excuse to have Matrix effects.

First off is the character Constantine, let me say what I've always said, I dug the look of the film, and the superficial things they got right like for example chain smoking, can be a dick, and the way he dresses. But I think the perfect example of how they ruin the character was at the end when he switches to gum, this is where they royally ****ed up constantine, Constantine is an all-out ass, who does everything for himself, such an ass that'd he'd continues smoking even after he almost died.

Oh ok, that was exactly what I was asking.
Thanks, sounds quite a bit different.

Another thing is THEY completely ****ed up the story line about him having cancer... The movie lacks the effect the original story has because of a few things. First the story in the books comes after you've read lots of adventures of Constantine, 2nd it's a very personal story, it doesn't involve going to hell, and thirdly it doesn't take back seat to the end of the world. The original story was so effective because here's a guy who gone one on one with demons and who knows what else, and he's going be taken out by cancer. And the way he's cured is a hundred times better at the end, he completely risks all of the world to save himself and then goes an lights up another cigerette and walks off.

It is. When I first read it I was like, "Holy crap!!" Constantine rocks.

Great entertaining movie with kickarse special effects.

I agree with those sentiments exactly, ****ing great series and movie and I find it hard to believe that anyone would dislike them. But thats me, i love them.

That comic character sounds kinda shallow though, if he never changes and what not...I LIKED that he changed in the movie, and evolved, as all characters should. I can't say for sure since I don't read the comic, its just from your description. On a sidenote, I love firefly, but the movie fell flat for me. it focused on the worst character (river/simon) and seemed so generic on the big screen :(still love the show t hough.

More elitism:

Actually your completely wrong, see the problem is Constantine the movie is so obvious so incredibly basic and cliche, Constantine in the comics is far more complex and deep, and it's all in the subtlies, for example why is he the way he is? And to a further point the story isn't really about, it's more about the adventures he gets himself into.

Nah the comic character sounds kinda lame....always out for himself? continues to smoke after he gets a second chance? I personally don't care why a character like that is the way he is....so you can keep the comics. sounds like a lame character imo. I like characters to evolve and change and that good stuff

Try reading a book next time  There's more to him, how about you ever think that was just a shield, a way to keep himself away from the world from being hurt so many times. Whatever, it's obviously too complex for you, you should stick to your cookiecutter characters with resolutions that come gift-wrapped.
