Hi guys,

didn't really find a better spot for this topic so i'll drop it over here if i may..

i wanted to see and hear about how much attention you guys pay to continuity in comics ? do you HAVE to read everything in the exact order and get really hung up about it when something happens that technically can't happen for some reason continuity wise,or when a previous event is overlooked ?

or do you not really care and just go by the general continuity without being nitpicky about details ?

I ask this because continuity issues can be a real dealbreaker for people like me that are looking to get back into comics after being out for years....it's almost impossible to go buy everything in order and read it in the correct turn of events, for example if i stumble across a batman paperback or something that is very recent, i'm not gonna say " well i can't buy this because i have to catch up first" ....

i think understanding continuity is important, but not to the extent that you pay too much attention to it because then you run the risk of ruining your comic reading hobby...if i buy a old comic book i can still read it with great pleasure and be excited about what's happening in that story, even tho in the back of my mind i know it ain't even relevant anymore, i just don't let that ruin my pleasure.

so what about you ?

I'll quote myself from an old thread:

Generally, I'm not that concerned with continuity in long-running comics once they change writers. I might feel different if I had grown up with comics (I was almost 18 when I got into them), but I care more about a writer's ability to make his or her own unique story than whether that story takes liberties with continuity. I only get annoyed when long-standing characterizations get changed drastically to fit a particular situation (like Civil War) or long-running characters get completely thrown under the bus to put over new ones (like Doom in Millar's Fantastic Four).
