Here's the deal. I just got a phone set from Walmart...8.5 Ghz cordless phone. There are TWO in the set.
The first phone in the set is basic. There's the docking station for the phone which has two lines leading out of it: the power line and the phone line.
The second phone is a bit different. The docking station looks the same as the other phone, the main, and biggest difference being it DOES NOT plug into the phone line. Meaning its only line leading out of it is the power cord.
And suspect number three in this little mystery is my modem. Westell 6100. NOT a router...just a typical DSL modem.
Now here's where I'm confused. All three devices have worked wonderfully for the time that I've had them, but I'm starting to notice trouble when they get near each other.
My work desk is right by my computer so naturally the modem is about five feet away from the desk. I have the power-line only phone on the desk. Whenever I try to talk on the phone at the desk, it gets static-like interference. Move a bit farther from the modem, and it stops. The same goes for the power-line/phone-line phone also. Try to sit at the desk and talk, and the modem is interfering. I'm quite sure it is the modem. I unplugged my router to see if it was the cause, but it wasn't. I switched power receptacles (both phone and router) and nothing changed. But the instant I unplugged the router, the static was gone. I wouldn't mind normally, but I NEED to be able to talk at my work desk without having to go to the next room. Why would a modem be causing this? Is it putting out some sort of signal?
Help please!
