What do you think of the costumes?

  • PERFECT!

  • They're good, they could have been alittle more faithful.

  • They work I guess.

  • I hate them.

I really like what I see for the most part. I'm not bothered at all by the nipples on Ozy's costume, but I do wish it was gold instead of black, because I think that gold is more consistent with his character and how he'd present himself. Rorschach, Comedian, and Silk Spectre are spot on, and Nite-Owl still looks great. I wanna see Doctor Manhattan!

Have they said what design house is doing the CG for Manhattan yet?

The Comedian looks so ridiculously awesome. Love 'em all except for Ozy. All I have to say for that design is....um?

The only reason I couldn't vote for perfect is because Ozymandias looks like ass.

That's exactly how I look at most comic book movies, they don't have to be exactly the same as the source material, but an interpretation of it, and when you don't like it, there's always the comic.

Exactly. I love this kind of thinking.

Hey Bubba... I don't usually do this and feel a bit silly for it, but who's that in your avatar?

She's Marlena from Cloverfield. Chick is hot.

If they had just made it gold and made that loincloth out of actual cloth it would be fine.

I think it is that blue color because he is suppose to be at his base. Which most should know where that is. Even though I don't think they will have a blue tint to it in the movie.

The Comedian is definitely my favorite design. Crazy badass describes it perfectly. :o

The pic is just very low on saturation for some reason. The gold hue is in there, along with the purple.

I see both. However, it bugs me that they made his costume black. You'll understand once you have read the book. It's bugging me less now that I have seen more Egyptian art and seen the black with gold trim that the designers were trying to evoke. Still, the loincloth being molded plastic really kills it.

I think Guard hit it - these designs are poking fun at modern day Superhero costumes, but NOT TDK - that's a realistic SWAT design with a proven approach behind it. They're poking more fun towards Schumacher IMO...........

I think his costume will appear more purple than black on camera. I think it is the crazy stylistic photoshopping they did to Viedt that makes it what it is now.

Black, gold, purple, whatever. It still has that classical antiquity feel and is something no sane person would be caught dead wearing, so I'm happy.

Rorschach looks f**king perfect--but seeing as how we've seen him in the past few months and his costume's basically a mask, coat, and suit and therefore really difficult to screw up, we already knew that.

Comedian, Nite-Owl and Silk Spectre are good, but their costumes do feel a bit too techy to work in the 80s. I mean, it is a more futuristic 80s then ours (I'm still waiting for those things on the sidewalks we can plug our cars in), it does feel like it would work better if taking place in modern day.

Ozy...I think the main problem comes from the actor and not the costume. I've asked several others about this and we all seem to agree--his head truely is too small for his body. He does kinda look like a malnurished teenager in a padded suit then a regal, manipulating badass. Hopefully this is either a bad picture or the guy's performance is flawless.

So yeah, that's my two cents....and I'm intrigued to see Dr. Manhattan.

Oh, don't be so coy, Majik, we all can tell that you wanna know if he's going to be nekkid or not. :cwink:

it almost looks like they're poking fun on the "overdone" nature of modern movie superhero costumes, specifically the THE DARK KNIGHT Batsuit. And I love that.

 So you think the costume designer when designing these costumes was looking at artwork and designs for how the TDK suit would look like? So, Nolan and Co. was sharing their designs with Snyder and Co. specifically so that Snyder and Co. could poke fun at the costume. Because correct me if I'm wrong but wouldn't the Watchmen costumes at least have been designed by the time the official first photo of the TDK suit came out?

I'll buy poking fun at the other Batman movies, perhaps even BB, but I don't see how they would have knowingly and conciously been aware that they were making fun of TDK's suit while designing the Watchmen costumes.

Yes.

He looks too young, too skinny, too weird. I guess he knocked that audition out of the park.

To those complaining about the lack of spandex or "comic faithfulness" you should know that the costumes of the older heroes are Adam West-like Spandex and so that aspect was obviously considered and they decided upon this.

I think it works well.

What's the movie rated?

If it's "R" then I say no costume, just some make up mixed with CGI.

If it's "PG13" then this is the way to go:

Why would the ratings matter on how the character should look?

As a person whose never seen, or read any of the stories, i can't really comment. I think it would help if they were compared to their comic counterpart. so here you go...

As someone who is looking at this with a clean slate, I think all the costumes look awesome, and definitely a good update from the comics.

I agree with this totally. He's not nearly imposing enough with his skinny little neck.

I agree.

It makes sense, because after Dr. Manhattan everything should be more sci-fi-ish. There's no need for cloth/spandex in the modern costumes (the important thing is that they still look kinda silly, and they do).

Also, it makes for a bigger contrast with the look of the Minutemen Era.
