The cast would be something like:

Spider-Man
Wolverine
Cyclops
Storm
Marvel Girl
Colossus
Professor Xavier
Angel
Beast
Gambit
Thor
Hawkeye
Captain America
Hulk
Wasp
Ant-Man
Iron Man
Ms Marvel
Mr Fantastic
Invisible Woman
The Thing
Human Torch

Could a quality movie with a good story & plot with each character getting enough attention come from such a big event movie?

Little to no chance with those parameters. I don't see how you can provide the good story/plot for that many characters that gives each of the listed characters enough attention. It certainly wouldn't work in a single film of 2 1/2 hours.

Avengers at least was able to take the primary characters and give them story arcs within the framework of the story.

X-Men: DOFP really focused on a handful of primary characters - including 2 versions of Xavier and Magneto. Beyond Beast, Mystique, Quicksilver and Kitty - the other characters were cannon fodder.

You still need to focus on a villain, unless the movie is just a free-for-all battle between the different factions.

I think a crossover could work, but your focus would be limited to maybe Spider-Man and maybe 2 characters each from X-Men, Avengers and Fantastic Four.

Would you be satisfied if your favorite character got marginalized in that scenario?

Honestly, at the end of the day - are people really clamoring to see stuff like Secret War/Civil War, Avengers vs. X-Men or Decimation/House of M?

Those cross-overs are terrible and nonsensical, especially Civil War.

In the context of current franchises I think Civil War would work good for the current X-Men franchise. Registration has been an issue, you have warring factions in the Mutant community and there's an emphasis on their place in the world.

Not sure if I'd want it but I see it making sense in that franchise more so than the others.

I could easily see them doing Schism like the comics and having two opposing X-Men teams led by Cyclops and Wolverine.

All the aforementioned heroes against a super powered Doom...greatest movie ever!!!

I would say yes. This would be my opinion/perspective on the idea of a BIG crossover movie. I actually already posted in the Avengers vs. X-men thread in The Avengers sequel forum but I feel this thread is perhaps more appropriate.

Here's some interesting feedback on this idea. Several months ago, right around the time Thor:TDW was released on DVD and Blu ray, I decided to get the stand alone DVD of the first Thor film since I only had the 3D Blu-ray combo that had the bare-bare bones DVD. Only place in my area that actually had a copy of the Thor DVD in stock was Toys R Us. So at the checkout the cashier asks me if I saw the new Thor film and what I thought, I said it was all right, I enjoyed it but I was really looking forward to the new Captain America Winter Soldier movie, they replied that it looked cool but what he was really waiting for the most is the Avengers/X-men team up. Now that there is something. The cashier from my perspective was the very definition of the GA, general audience. I replied that's a cool idea, maybe something like "Secret Wars" or "Onslaught" but he wasn't really familiar with the actual comic book arcs. What that shows to me is that there is a demand among the general audience(non comic fans) for an X-men/Avengers team-up crossover flick.

My opinion, if Marvel/Disney/Fox/Sony were to work things out and pull off a crossover epic, I can almost guarantee if it's well made, it'll gross something like $2.7 billion WW easy. It would be one for the record books. Mark my words if they ever pull this off we're looking at a gross north of $2 billion WW. This is something if all parties were to set aside egos and actually work together and work out all the rights and who gets what and what not, they could pull off something extra special in cinema history. They could use some comic booky style plot devices to explain a possible crossover. "Secret Wars" and the Beyonder should be used as a possible template, the Avenger's MCU and the Fox's X-men-verse would be 2 totally separate alternate worlds/universe/dimension and the Beyonder or some similar entity could exist is a place beyond time/space, a nexus of all realities and it puts a pause on the two worlds and spirits away groups of the top heroes and villains from both worlds to compete in contest that if lost would have catastrophic consequences for both or all worlds but if won things would return as if nothing had happened, not unlike the SW arc from the comics.

That's one possible way and if they ever did pull something like that off once then maybe I could see them using something like "Heroes Reborn" or "House of M" as possible "sequel crossovers". The whole multiple worlds/realities, they could get really creative with that. For the most part it shouldn't effect the overall continuities for the separate universes and essentially be more of a "What If" novelty kinda thing. I know it's probably very unlikely but it's fun to speculate. Even if they were to get this together I would say maybe not until something like phase 4 or 5 of the MCU or when the first phase cast decide to start moving on. A lot of people I know first became Marvel fans not from the comics or movies, or even just the animated shows on Fox, but the video games Marvel/X-men vs. Street Fighter/Capcom. That was a big, big deal for a lot of people I know from way back in the day. If or when they make a crossover epic, people will show up.

Honestly I'm all right with Fox having X-Men, DoFP was pretty good although I still don't like how they cut their films for theatrical release and all the multiple Blu-ray exclusive cuts etc. I guess I'm all right with the X-Men being their own separate world/universe from the greater Avenger's MCU and web/TV series. Spidey I could see a case being made to find someway to get him in the MCU at some point, although I'm 50/50 on how Sony's been handling things. Thinking back now I would say ASM-2 was just okay since some time has passed and I've really had a chance to process that film. Hopefully things get better for ASM-3.

Don't know if it would work, but someday I would LOVE to see a huge crossover featuring all these franchises facing off against Galactus, now that would be special.

Voted "NO" only on the grounds of the cluster flocks of a currently divided and separated Marvel Universe with the FF, X-Men, and Spidey spread amongst the other studios making the proposed united front a certain impossibility. I know this thread was intended to stay just in the hypothetical concept realm, but this fact is so frustrating and hard to ignore.

But seriously, a story with lots of heroes involved under one house WOULD / WILL WORK such as what AVENGERS 3 is promising, with its gearing up towards an ultimate show down with Thanos and the Infinity Gauntlet, that will definitely be awesome. We just won't be seeing anytime soon Beast working with Ant-Man, Captain America fighting along side (or against) Wolverine and Cyclops, the Black Panther finding his queen in Storm, or just Spider-Man and The Thing jabbing each other verbally while laying the smack down on AIM, Hydra, Rhino, etc., and the cinematic world is left a little empty for those omitted possibilities.

You got 1 and a half to 2 and a half hours to tell a compelling story the more characters you cover the less you can do with each character. A huge crossover movie in the vein of infinite crisis or civil war would suck as a singular movie it would have to be a three part movie.

I think it could work if done right. :D My ideal roster:
Spider-Man
Wolverine
Cyclops
Storm
Jean Grey
Professor X
Beast
Gambit
Iron Man
Captain America
Thor
Hulk
Dr. Strange
Ant-Man
Nick Fury
Mr. Fantastic
Invisible Woman
The Thing
Human Torch

This would be an epic roster for an epic superhero film!

Being true to the Infinity Gauntlet, the list of characters would look something like this.
1) Thanos
2) Adam Warlock
3) Death
4) Silver Surfer
5) Dr. Strange
6) Namor
7) Captain America
8) Hulk
9) Cyclops
10) Thor
11) Iron Man
12) Spider-Man
13) Dr. Doom
14) Wolverine
15) Nova
16) Scarlet Witch
17) Quasar
18) She-Hulk
19) Firelord
20) Drax
21) Cloak
22) Vision
23) Mephisto
24) Watcher
25) Eros
26) Nebula
27) Terraxia

It's quite a list but most of the characters have very minor parts, almost to the point of a cameo. If you take out the Cosmic Elite like Eternity, Galactus, etc, it would make it more understandable to the common viewer, and it's not really needed for the overall story, although one of my favorite parts was when the Gods, like Odin, were making their battle plans only to have their access cut off from them. I would love to see that in the movie.

I think it could work if the studios worked out an agreement to split the profits up with a certain percentage going to each studio based on their negotiations.

As the comic book movies continue to bring in HUGE profits, I could see a day where we could see a DC and Marvel collaboration on a big summer blockbuster involving both company's characters.

I just want to see this happen....

I don't need all those other characters, I just want these 6 together... just one time in live action... sadly it won't happen anytime in the foreseeable future.

The McAvoy Xavier and Wolverine would be better. Make it two characters that people love to watch.

As a single movie? No

As a big budget cinematic miniseries like LOTR? Yes
