Could Rupert Murdoch’s Failed Bid To Acquire Time Warner Result in MARVEL-DC Merger?

Marvel and DC will never merge

Marvel and DC will never merge

I don’t think fcc will allow it. Who knows this the same corporation who stop mickey from entering public domain in 2003..

I don't think they should merge and probably wouldn't either. I'd prefer for Disney to take over Fox though.

I have a feeling old man Murdoch will make some small sacrifices before making the offer agaon

Also fox owns the rights too the original star wars trilogy

All the more reason to go to Disney now.

There are some properties that just seem more Disney than Fox - Star Wars and Fantastic Four being two prime examples.

Disney may want CNN but that's probably it.

Don't see how Star Wars seems more Disney than Fox considering Disney had nothing to do with every Star Wars movie thus far and Fox has

I imagine any monopoly concerns wouldn't be because of the whole Marvel/DC thing. It would be because Warner Bros. owns a significant amount of content, including a massive portion of the MGM catalog, as well as HBO and Cinemax, and they're currently handling a big chunk of Paramount's back catalog, too. Combine that with what Disney currently has its hands on, and you have a significant chunk of the film and TV industry under one roof, which is definitely cause for concern.

Come 2020 Disney will get distribution rights to all Star wars films except A New Hope.

The idea Fox after 1 billion year would ever sell Is not realistic.

I don't like it because it gives disney way too much of a monolpy.

Disney already owns ABC so I don't know If CNN Is that attractive to them.

Disney making Batman movies.
ugh.gif

No way this will happen.

THR says that CNN could be attractive to them because they don't have their own news channel.

Google
The search giant most often is mentioned as a potential bidder, though Time Warner still has the historically awful AOL merger fresh in its memory. Still, Google has a track record of massive profits (unlike AOL at the time) and a hefty $385 billion market cap to back up a potential play.
Apple
As with Google, Apple's massive market cap ($567 billion), not to mention $38 billion in cash on hand, makes it an automatic potential bidder. Time Warner's giant library of film and TV content presumably would fit neatly into whatever plans the maker of iPads and iPhones has for its still-nascent Apple TV product. And, of course, iTunes always is looking for some video leverage as it goes to war with Netflix, Hulu and other online content services.

I hope its true, if only for the hours of entertainment from the fanboy armies in the ongoing DC Film U-MCU war.

Fox's involvement with Star Wars was minimal. It was all Lucasfilm.

With the release of a new Star Wars in 2015, it’s safe to assume that there’s some money to be made in also releasing some sort of box set of the films around that time. Though Disney is now in control of the Star Wars empire, Fox will still release Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith in 3D next year. Per THR, Fox owns the distribution rights to Star Wars: A New Hope in perpetuity in all media worldwide. They also hold theatrical, nontheatrical and home video rights to the other Star Wars films through May 2020, but their ownership of A New Hope is without an end date.
As such, quite a bit of legal wrangling will need to take place before we see another complete box set home video release of Star Wars. A collection of all the films cannot be released until Disney and Fox strike some sort of deal, given that the latter company wholly owns A New Hope. Fox likely feels a bit burned that Lucas didn’t sell his company to the longtime partner studio, but hopefully some sort of deal can be arranged for future home video releases. It’d be a shame to see Star Wars Blu-ray sets without the film that started it all.

I hope this never happens.

It's like your favorite sports team and their rivals combining into a singe team.

There is more chance of me being assaulted with a large, glow in the dark doubled ended *****, than this merger.

Considering my plans for tonight I calculate that possibility being 13%.

Sorry, I meant in terms of creative and production. Not distribution and the business side of things.
