Yes. Clearly he has aggressively manipulated the media portions of his company to garner political influence and has used that to shape more corporate friendly policies. His company was investigated in the UK for a scandal where his employees were involved in phone hacking and police bribery and it doesn't stop there.

That would not have been a good thing for X-Men. I guess it would not hurt DC characters, but they are doing fine right now.

Simple economics. FOX/WB would mean more resources and less Comic properties to work with. That would likely mean more DC films.

I'm not happy that we have to wait two more years before we even see the next DC film. If Fox buying WB meant that we'd see more films, then I'd be all for it. I don't care who Rupert Murdoch is or about his corporate business practices. The only interest I would have had in this deal is the potential to see more CBM's.

Doesn't matter if you love or loathe Murdoch. X-Men DOFP was a pretty great film. Add to that Fox's relationship with James Cameron and you could have had some exciting possibilities.

I think folks need to understand that if FOX did buy Time Warner it doesn't mean that FOX and WB will become one studio. In fact I'm sure that WB despite being owned will still be run by the same exec brass unless some resign. They will remain separate. They aren't going to fire the entire staff at Warners and give it to Rothman and the other execs that run the Fox film division.

Here's what we know: Fox gets to keep F4 and X-Men as long as they maintain the properties by regularly making movies. They would probably keep making X-Men movies as it's profitable franchise for them.

Perhaps, but if you don't have any evidence don't make the claim that it's "almost certain".

Yeah I'm aware that they were in dire financial straits when they sold them off, but that doesn't mean they didn't have competent lawyers drawing up the contracts. They were smart enough to add in clauses that required movies being made every set number of years, so it's not like they were held over a barrel. Something like a non compete clause would seem like a fairly standard addition to a layman like me.

I'll admit that I know nothing about contractual film rights, but I do work in media and go over publisher and advertiser contracts daily. They all have some form of non compete/category exclusivity arrangement. That's just for small advertising buys. I'd imagine that the process is a lot more in depth and iron clad for a deal that is potentially worth billions of box office dollars.

Actually they wouldnt. There is no precendent for it and Fox would never agree to it. Fox has the right to purchase the rights to any property that is willing to sell to them and Marvel cant say otherwise as long as Fox puts out movies every so often. (see also: Sony)

I havent read the contract, but I would bet every penny I will make in the future there is no clause saying Fox cant make movies from another publisher because Fox would be stupid to ever sign such a deal.

Licensing is a different animal than most other contract law, that is why Time Warner shows end up on CBS or Fox or why ABC produced shows can be on NBC. Fox paid for the rights to make the movies in their universe and as long as they do it in a certain time frame Marvel is SOL. (and Marvel would seriously not care anyways which is why Stan Lee was on Big Bang Theory which is a Time Warner show that pimps DC stuff above all)

Personally, I like the fact that Marvel doesn't have Spider Man, X-Men, and Fantastic Four, as it means that they need to develop other properties like Guardians of the Galaxy and Doctor Strange.
