Could the 'leak' be the greatest marketing ploy since TDK?

Me and a buddy today were wondering what alot have been wondering ever since the work print got out; could this be a big publicity stunt cooked up by Fox themselves? I can't help but wonder if this film would have done as well if all the 'leak' controversy hadn't came out.

The general public went and saw it because of all the gossip surrounding it, for among other reasons. Fans, even those who saw the work print, went anyway just to see if there was a difference between the finished version, and the leaked one.

The numbers this weekend are impressive, no doubt. Could this leak be the second greatest marketing ploy since TDK's viral campaign? The weekend B.O would indicate YES!

I do think it's interesting how most of the movies that were leaked in advance were Fox movies. Was it done intentionally, or does Fox just have poor security when it comes to protecting their films against piracy?

Well the TDK virals built up huge amounts of positive buzz with fanboys which was passed along to the mainstream. If the leak was on purpose (which it wasn't), then they failed miserably where WB succeeded.

yep fox releases their movies online and then gets the FBI involved...and then to cover up the negativity lies about how their is more footage...and WB just kills their cast members.

with creating buzz? cuz the movie did get quite a bit of buzz...

i guess it all depends on whether we believe they released it on purpose or not.

The FBI would probably find out if they released it on purpose...and just between you and me, yes it created buzz, but it also hurt it, and I don't think even Fox is stupid enough to break the law like that. They would be in some serious trouble. You don't just get the FBI unless you want them to find out the truth, because that's what they do.

It could have been more of a 'look the other way' type thing. There's no question that the leak created buzz..............like they say publicity is publicity, no matter if it's good or bad.

Buzz or not, the general public went to see this because it featured Wolverine and starred Hugh Jackman, not because the film that featured Wolverine and starred Hugh Jackson leaked.
