I had been pointed to this strange site called 8-3-11.info I'm not quite
sure what to make of it but it's been gaining cult status ever since it
suddenly appeared. *Here is an article describing what I'm talking about.
It sounds like some sort of viral marketing campaign, though for what, I
have no idea. **The spokespeople for the site use numbered aliases as go
bys. It's been said that the picture of the girl named "Belle" is actually
a photo of two separate people. I'm intrigued to say the least what do you
all think?

"MYSTERIOUS posters with the picture of a girl and a date have been spotted
in Spain and around the world.

Internet users have been left wondering about a website which shows a black
and white photo of a small girl identified as Belle and the date 8-3-11. The
only thing the website asks is for people to print posters with the image
and put them up in their area to "spread the word".
What "the word" might be, is not made clear, and what the date of August 3,
2011 - if the US date format is used - refers to isn't either.

Thousand on the internet are attempting to unravel the mystery of the girl,
the strange recordings which can be heard on the site, and why the authors
identify themselves with numbers.
The most popular theory is that it is a 'viral' campaign to create
expectation over a forthcoming videogame or film, but there is nothing to
support this.

Others believe it may be an art or sociology project to test how people can
become obsessed with something which they know very little about.
What has been confirmed is that the 'photograph' of the girl is actually
made up of two different photos, possibly not even of the same child."

I don't know, but I'm scared now. Someone hold me. :(

Haha, I think there's another website similar to this set up for a 2013 date, and there was one in the early 2000s for exactly the kind of 'sociology project to test how people can become obsessed with something which they know very little about' that the OP mentioned. It probably is either that, a film or just somebody dicking around seeing if they can get a reaction.

This film has its premiera date at august 3rd 2011

"Atrocious"

The film centers on the Spanish police’s discovery of hours of recorded evidence that shed new light on a gruesome murder investigation. The found footage documents a family’s summer holiday, where a brother and sister investigate a terrifying local urban legend. As their investigation intensifies, strange occurrences in and around the house escalate rapidly, before culminating in unspeakable atrocities.

And it sounds eeiry connected

EDIT nevermind, it was 2010 :/

back to sqaure zero again :P

No, you were actually right. It was apparently released in some places in 2010, but it's US release date is August 3rd, 2011.

Well I'd like to believe that it is a film tie in but on page 60 of the formspring account the following reply was given:

"We are not marketing a movie, book, game, magazine, multimedia experience, rollercoaster, grocery store, or anything else you could possibly spend your money on. We are not in this for profit of any kind."

On that note I think this might be related to the attack on the "Anon" hacker social networking page earlier this week.

Where did you find the info Obin?

third result when I googled: august 3 2011 :cwink: http://www.movieinsider.com/movies/august/2011/3/

hm... anon attacks are boring now. i would much rather this be a viral for a movie or something like that.

Well here is a weird graphic from the admins of the site that were given out as a clue. The coding was cracked by a member if the ATS forum yesterday or so.

I don't think they'd do a viral campaign for an Anon attack. Either way, we wont have long to wait to find out.

I don't think this is TDKR viral marketing at all, see my above post on what the site said about marketing. There are a few theories floating around that make some sense, some including the constellation "Casiopeia".

One if the responses by the admins was: "When it rains, it pours". Hopefully the attack in Oslo wasn't what they were hinting at.

They have a whole formspring in which they say no one is going to get hurt. This is probably some college experiment. Nothing ever happens. Still, it's pretty fun to read.

IT'S THE RAAAAAPTUUUUURE! Everybody hide.

I think they're just screwing with us to see how much attention they can get.

"ooh, look at how mysterious we are"

Well I applied to help out in any way they needed, let's see if they get back to me.
