DC Animation Creature Commandos - Animated Series

I don't know what to think of this show. It's not bad, by any means... but it just doesn't do much for me.

I see a lot of comments about how touching GI Robot was, but I didn't felt there was enough to really care about the character, who seemed to me to be nothing more than a “yeah, kill the Nazi” gimmick.
Yet these little origins story, like the Bride's one, are way more appealing to me than the rest: as soon as we returned to the present, I completely dropped the thing... I already didn't remember why Circe was attacking this principality, or what the Commando was doing here... Or where the whole thin is. Anyway....

I still think this is a series that, in the current context, should have been released all at once. I'm not having a bad time, and on the spot I could keep watching another episode.
But a week's break between each of these gives me just enough time to feel how much this isn't a must-see for me.


Will still watch the rest though...

EDIT: Just put my finger on it, it's actually a show I watch wondering what could have been done rather than genuinely appreciating it for what it is.

Completely agree that it should have been released all at once. It sucks watching 20ish minutes of the show once a week. I'm tempted to wait until the rest come out and watch them as a mini-movie. Been enjoying them so far, but I think my enjoyment would escalate even more if I could watch it all in one go.

It's about on par with Invincible, and features slightly better animation.

It's miles better than both X-Men '97 and Batman: Caped Crusader.

Everything up to this point showed Weasel being a useless numpty.

I feel like attempting to connect this show to the new DC Universe was a mistake. It feels like it should be its own thing like Harley Quinn and Kite Man.

1. Flagg working for Waller makes no sense to me. If he truly loves his son, he would not be working for her. It's a disgrace to his memory.
2. The whole non-human premise is flimsy and the show knows it. Task Force X was literally using King Shark and Weasel. IMHO it would be more believable if they just gave her a public flogging and slap on the wrist but then quietly let her continue doing whatever she wants because that's basically how public outrage works. Scandals happen, we get angry, and then we move onto the next thing and forget until it's time to get angry again. The Creature Commandos are really no different than metahumans. They are metahumans and comparable to the metahumans who were in Task Force X. If Waller just said, "Yeah people got angry and then stopped giving a ****" I would've found that more believable.
3. The show is tonally all over the place. The first episode felt overstuffed at 22 minutes. Flagg's relationship with the princess felt creepy to me. How old is she supposed to be? How old is Rick Flag? Like 55?
4. If the Creature Commandos are so aggressive they were ready to attack Flag and Waller at first glance, they should've taken more precautions or cautionary measures with them. The Suicide Squad Isekai anime did a much better job of this because the explosives in their necks are on a timer. So they basically had to make it to a radio tower after a set limit or Waller would explode their heads. That kept them on a tighter leash with Flag since he was the only one who knew how to get to the radio tower and could radio Waller to get her to reset the timers. So even after their ARGUS guards got wiped out, the Task Force X member were still obligated to do their jobs and behave somewhat. Flag and Waller didn't plan out this operation well at all, making them seem largely incompetent. But hey, I guess that's relatively consistent for movie universe Waller.

Even if they did, most of the cast members have voice-over animation credits and experience. Some of them are more prominent for their live-action work, but it's not like they hired Chris Hemsworth and Chris Evans level talents for the cast. Alan Tudyk has done tons of animation work. Indira Varma is on Vox Machina and has also worked on Dragon Age. David Harbour has been on Big City Greens.

While I greatly respect the VA world, this is nothing to raise a stink over. I wouldn't call this a case of celebrity stunt casting all the leads.

I feel like he knows enough about Waller not to trust her. She's already been subjected to a huge public scandal by her OWN DAUGHTER. Why would he trust the information about how his son was killed?

This seems like hyperbole honestly. The animation is better, but that's about it. I like show well enough but it's more of the same from James Gunn which isn't necessarily a bad thing but it's not must watch television either.

Definitely am enjoying Creature Commandos more than Batman Caped Crusader. Didn't hate the series, but it is quite forgettable and I have no desire to watch it again. A real shame, I was sooo excited for it too.

CC hasn't quite reached 97 or Invincible for me personally. But hey, more episodes like the past two, that could change.
