Cullen and Welker are what I grew up with so I'll go with them.

Chalk and Kaye are classics in their own right.

I love Kaye's version when Megatron says "Yeeesss!" , "Nooo!", and the ever popular "Excellent!"

I know it didn't last long because of 9/11, but does anybody remember Neil Kaplan, the voice of Prime in Transformers RID? I think he deserves an honorable mention.

When deciding on the voice of Megatron you should consider looking at some of the concept arts from the movie and try to invision what voice would fit. Personally the raspy voice of Welker would be a lot more fitting, thats not to say that Kaye isn't bad, but I dont think his voice would siute the character of Megs in the movie. Just picturing what Megatron looks like at the moment, all spikey and stuff, a sharp raspy voice like Welker would be perfect.

Here's an idea out of left field, have Kaye AND Welker voice Megatron? I've seen some nice voice melding in various things(White Wizard Gandalf for example; when Aragorn and the others come across him in the forest and Gandalf blinds them with light, his voice is both Gandalf and Saruman's). Done well this would give everyone what they want. Hell these are machines, the harmonics of 2 voices melded together would be more than acceptable. :hyper: That gives you the raspy despot voice range of Welker with the more intellectual malevolent vocal range of Kaye's. You could even do this with Cullen/Chalk. Balancing the strength of each voice actor based on the tone of the scene or the dialogue.
If you aren't sure of what I mean, check that scene in Two Towers. :trans:

Anyway, as for the thread. Cullen/Welker. :yay:
I like Chalk and Kaye to, but for Optimus and Megatron, it has to be the originals.

And why didn't they call Scott McNeill to play anyone in this movie?

Did anyone hear Cullen as Optimus on Robot Chicken? He honestly didn't sound quite as good as he did originally.

Where did you learn that it was Cullen who did the voice on Robot Chicken?I am not disputing you...it's just that I pulled out that episode and watched it and their is no voice credits for the part and was wondering where you got the info from?

Never mind answering the question I asked you before. With the help of some friends at a Transformers fan-site I got my answer.
PETER CULLEN did not do the voice of OPTIMUS PRIME in any Robot Chicken episode. The actor's name is Abraham Benrubi and heare is a link to prove it.

Now if you could tell me what made you think it was Cullen?:trans:

It was reported in Wizard magazine that it was Peter Cullen.

I read Wizard every month but I dont remember reading that...but I guess I could have missed it...but ether way it must have been reported wrong.

Mushy, but true.

I voted for the original two. I also agree with a lot of You, that Kaye, and Chalk are good in Beast Wars. Welker is Megatron to me though . . . whether or not they'll go for him in the LAM . . .

Nosebleed, I never thanked You, for crediting me in Your siggy . . . I am honored by it. :yay:

I'm all for Cullen being Prime, but I never liked the fact that the 80's villains in the GI Joe and Transformers cartoons had to have such high pitched voices (Cobra Commander, Starscream (though it worked for his character), and Megatron)

I'm much more of a Kaye person when it comes to Megatron's voice.

...And Scott McNeill rules all. :o

I vote for Chalk/Kaye! Not because of the "i grew up with them" reason. I find Gary Chalk has a more variable voice where he doesn't sound so deep as Cullen. He wouldn't have problems speaking some very probable cheesy TF 2007 lines that the writers got in there. With Cullen they will sound very out of place imo since he sounds a lot more deeper and "by the book" in his performance.

For Kaye i always found his voice to be so memorable and leading. Perfect evil sounding and menacing delivery. Welker on the other hand sounds like a cigarette addicted Megatron. Sorry if this is hurting any feelings but he just does to me. He sounds like a cartoon evil and for the direction they are going this would be a bad move. They are trying so hard to make this "not a cartoon" as its been repeated endlessly by Bay and Co.

UNless they take Galvatron's voice for Megatron, Leonard Nemoy! He sounded great in the 86 film, he is no welker, but it may work.

I'm fine with either Cullen or Chalk for Prime. But for Megatron I'd definitely prefer Kaye. Welker to me, is personally one of the worst Transformers voices.

Gary Coleman would make an excellent selection for the voice of Megatron.

I vote Cullen/Welker, and whereas i did grow up watching G1(and every TF series scince, including Beast Wars) thats not why i would pick them. I like Chalk/Kaye, but i think in those series, there was a bit more of a comical edge to Megatron, and it would be harder to translate that to a serious live action movie than the menacing, non-forgiving Megatron of Welker's.
Cullen is perfect for Prime because, and not unlike Chalk, his voice is very big sounding, with a little robotic voice effect, this is definitely the voice you'd hear coming from a gigantic robot truck.
