CD Projeckt Red Cyberpunk 2077

The funny thing is, there is this weird eliteism over PC vs. New Gen vs. Current/Last Gen, and it's ridiculous. Like, "why did you release the game on those old ones. Why did people buy the old ones". And it's like... dude. There are 100m PS4s out there. That's why they did it. They cared about sales first and foremost and a huge chunk of those came out with the PS4 and the Xbox One.
Why release it on those systems people are actually able to buy though? :o

Oh, the irony, Samurai...

I'm hyped for the Last of Us Part II custom PS2.

Why wouldn’t they focus on consoles as well? They’re going for the 20 million sales numbers and willing to let the majority of those players get a substandard experience, and ridiculous in the case of X1/PS4 guys?

This is the million dollar question, I have no idea but just from general workplace experience, I would imagine some particularly charismatic came in and swore no one would have current gen consoles by now and we would all, or mostly, be in next gen. But of course, covid and lack of shipments offset that and the rest is history.

It would amaze you how much people who project confidence can convince people to do even the silliest of things.

by the way, I got a message from PlayStation today saying they’re not honouring refunds so they’ll be having a chat with our consumer watchdog over this. Last time they tried to pull a stunt like this they lost millions and I’m sure by now they and Projekt CD have lost billions so the only way is down for quite some time. Very serious.

Looks like management, marketing and devs lived their own lives these past few years.

How so?

Also, I maintain the game should've been third person OR it should've allowed for both third person and first person gameplay.

It still seems insane to me that you have to choose between both styles these days.
I guess it could take a lot of processing power but I would love if games offered both options.

Gonna have to strongly disagree there, personally. The characters, for me anyway, are very well written and I'm often very interested in where things go.

I've put about 50 hours or so into this on PS5, and I've beaten the main story. Some crashes aside, it's run beautifully on the PS5. I think the game probably shouldve pushed to march just so that they could get the bugs out, there's nothing they can do about that now other than fix them. Personally, I don't think they shouldve set a release date until they were sure. I also think perhaps releasing on last gen may have not been the most ideal choice but at the same time, this game was announced even before last gen consoles. It's a weird situation. I also think expectations for this game were far far far too high, to the point where it was being built as "the final game" haha. For me, it's a fantastic RPG that has bugs. I also love Night City, and can't stop taking photos of its wet/neon lit streets.

Regardless, I'm definitely happy with the game and it's definitely the most fun
had in a game like this since RDR2. Crashing is pretty much the only negative I've gotten so far, but It hasn't effected how much I'm loving it.

This is how you can tell where different priorities are with different gamers because I borderline hated Red Dead 2. Everything to do with actual "game" part of that game was atrocious on ps4. The bugs aren't really the issue with me, they're a symptom of a larger problem of the larger issue of lack of direction. Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines and Fallout New Vegas are two of my favorite rpgs of all time and they're littered with bugs but they take place in beautifully reactive worlds where character builds have an actual effect on the game world beyond dialogue trees and NPC death with amazing quest design. I set my expectations incredibly low and was still disappointed because the pieces of the game I wanted it to be are very much there. You have to have a project lead with some semblance of creative vision behind the project like a Tim Cain, Leonard Boyarski, or Josh Sawyer or you're going to wind up with the mess we got.

I am curious, what do you mean by this?

Also, fun fact. The game is only available on those systems and PC. Sure you can play your PS4 or Xbox One copy on the newer systems, but the game is not out yet on them. It seems those versions won't be out for sometime. Lunacy.

Why would be hyped for anything that involves TLoU Part 2? :o

The shooting and horse mechanics felt like a massive step backwards. I loathed the half-assed base management stuff it added nothing to the game for me. It made the story predictable as well because it was written around these mechanics and gimmicks. Don't spend five years animating horse testicles, if you can't get the shooting right.

This game is like the Waterworld of games.

Waterworld lost money. This one definitely will not. So the equivalent there is probably the Avengers game, which it is crazy to think only came out three months ago.

But this has a chance of taking CDPR from Lair of the Shadow Broker all the way to Anthem in one game in terms of rep. Which would be incredibly impressive.

I only played about 10-15 hours. Not big on the base stuff, or the tedium of every little thing you do in the game. But I remember the horse and shooting being good. Been a while though.

I am a FromSoft, Platinum and good Capcom kind of guy. Give me the quality gameplay and a world I believe in to have some fun, and you pretty much have me.

They didn't want to do it. But once some of their costumer service showed mercy on some people, it became too much of a mess.

Part of the issue is CDPR told people to get refunds, probably not talking to either company about how their refund process works.

EDIT: CDPR released a current report, essentially a emergency notice to stockholders, that they knew this was coming, based on their discussions with Sony over the refunds. They absolutely blindsided Sony with the encouragement of refunds.

CDPR was just as shady with their "refund request" BS. They made it sound like they had it all worked out, and instead they were asking you to press your luck with the existing refund policies. There is no way Sony wants to do this, because the charge back cost is going to be massive for them. Microsoft is probably annoyed as hell right now that Sony gave in.

This release is a trainwreck, and yeah they deserve all the criticism and pushback and being pulled from Playstation that they've gotten in response.

That said, I'm actually quite enjoying it after deciding to put it in and see if it was a total trainwreck. Some interesting characters and the story genuinely is engaging me far more than I expected it to. It's pretty fun. Still shouldn't have been released though, and I got into a vehicle and V put her hands out in front of her like she's doing a zombie walk and I think her left hand turned into a foot.

Imagine how many request for refunds they must have got, to just give in like this. Way, way, way too many.

You know what upsets me the most. They did that short last minute delay. They knew it was broken. And the week before release they ****ing publicly said they would be coming down hard on any reviewers that got the game early and posted footage before the release! They had the gall to threaten game journalists and youtube channels, and they ****ing knew it was a broken mess! They said it was about *adopts weaselly AAA exec voice* "preserving the experience for gamers." Those SOBs didnt care about spoilers. They were just scared that we'd see how broken this was, and they chose to go ahead and release it anyway, and **** all of us over.

I would have respected them so much, if they would have come forward and said plain that the game is unfortunately a mess on last gen console, and they were struggling with it, and then release video of the worst problems. Not some PR statement filled with promises and platitudes. An honest statement and video evidence. Tell the community that they won't sell it until its ready and stable on all consoles. I've *****ed about the repeated delays, and their bogus PR statements with every delay, but I would have understood if they would have just been honest and straight forward about how messed up the game was. It would have sucked, but I would have supported their decision if I had known the condition the game was in.

good. I think something like this has been long overdue. As an industry, we need developers to start thinking “oh sh** I don’t want to end up like cyberpunk 2077 I better make sure it’s finished before I release it”. This sort of big stick approach was coming sooner or later.

someone said on twitter they need to make a “the social network” style movie about this whole debacle which would definitely be compelling. Never have I seen a company or video game fall so quickly from the light

CDPR really do deserve any backlash they get and more. Not threats of violence. That's gross and should never be a thing. But actual backlash for their business practices? Well deserved imo. I mean look at this. All this talk of the Cyberpunk culture and them being pro consumer. And they pulled a game because they are afraid of China. Nothing is less Cyberpunk then giving into the system:

CD Projekt under fire for dramatic U-turn on Devotion GOG release

Good on Sony to allow refunds. I have requested mine over the weekend and am still waiting (surely the customer support is swarmed)...

The bugs don't bug ( :hehe: ) me but I do mind the fact the core features and story content have been cut.

For a game based on a tabletop RPG, I am disappointed there are no classes. I also don't like how the game forces you to play a hybrid build.

It's disheartening because I am still enjoying the game. They've crafted a beautiful world (some NPC is actually playing guitar with accurate picking) and I was engaged with the gigs. The game was just not ready to be released...

Oh well... There's another cyberpunk RPG coming out next year and hopefully it will tide me over until CDPR fixes this and we get a Definitive Edition/Director's Cut type of release down the road.

I am quite bummed GOG won't release that game. Hopefully another DRM-free storefront like itch.io will sell it.

About 62 hours in now and still having a blast on PS5. I definitely feel for those that have not been able to enjoy this, honestly. And I think the Sony refunds are warranted and are a good thing for those that need them.
