Danny Elfman to Score Hellboy 2

ShockTillYouDrop.com pointed us to this thread where Guillermo del Toro has posted an update on the filming of Hellboy 2: The Golden Army, revealed that Danny Elfman will do the score and that the sequel will have 30 or more creatures, compared to eight in the first film:

We JUST finished the first day of shooting...

Danny Elfman IS going to score HELLBOY II and I feel privileged. I have worked with Marco Beltrami many times and will work with him soon enough but I believe we will have a beautiful score with Elfman, whom I admire greatly (in fact the "Title sewquence" music cue had the "Ta-de-dum-ta-de-dum" rythm by explicit request by me in an atempt to make it kind of Elfmanesque) and with whom I share a dark view of the world.

In the first HELLBOY film we had about 8 creatures (total, between CGI and animatronics/prosthetics) but in this one we have around 30 or more and the emphasis is still heavily on a 50% 50 % balance with CGI as enhancemnet or as a choice but not THE choice.

"The Golden Army" hits theaters
Holy shyit.
This makes me very excited. I epecially love the fact that Elfman will keep the Ta-de-dum-ta-de-dum theme from the Hellboy main theme.

SWEET!!!

Damn I can't wait to see this movie. :hellboy:

Everytime Hellboy 2 gets more news its always something great. Man this movie will be awesome.

He better spook it up! Get back to Old-school Elfman.

Another superhero movie with an Elfman score. Awesome!

Let's see...

Batman
Batman Returns
Flash: The Series
The Hulk
Spider-Man
Spider-Man 2
Hellboy 2

I like him and all, but boy am I tired of constantly hearing his music in like every superhero movie

I loved thh score from the first one. Danny Elfman is overrated (although I love his batman theme and his music in The Nightmare Before Christmans).

the trick is to make sure there is enough variation between one Superhero movie to the other. Elfman was able to achieve that between Batman and Spiderman. unfortunately he wasnt quite able to do that between Spiderman and The Hulk.

I liked his batman and spiderman themes most. The Flash theme was pretty dope too. His music suits dark movies.

I like how he ripped HIMSELF off with the score of Spider-Man. I was sitting there, wondering if iwas was 1989 again.

But, cool. I'm still looking forward to this film.

I love Elfman's scores...should be good.

So is the main theme from the first movie being kept then? I hope so, i hate it when they change main theme's for sequels, i like a bit of continuity in the music of a franchise.

Should be a great score, this film has everything going for it.

^Except budget i suppose, i would love to see what GDT would with some of the budgets of other CB movies out next year!

Yep.
The main Hellboy theme is confirmed to be used in the sequel.

I also agree with your post. Continuity is essential for me.

Imagine if GDT had a 100+ million dollar budget. :wow:

Just that thought makes me drool. Someday a studio is going to really see GDT's worth and give him the money he needs to make a really mind blowingly great film. Oh wait, he already does that with a shoestring budget.:woot:

>^..^<

I'm glad that Elfman will be providing his talent to this movie. He certainly has a gift for the music.

This is great news. The second best film composer in the industry.

Exactly, just imagine him with a higher budget.
