Danny Elfman to score Hellboy 2!

If it was that flawless and excellence I don't understand why he's not doing the second movie. It simply makes me think Del Toro really wanted Elfman and he thinks Elfman will do a better job.

Now I have to go dig up the quote. GDT has basically said that he wanted to use Elfman on the first film. I think it was a scheduling thing that prevented that from happening. He'd worked with Beltrami before so, I'm sure that was choice number 2.

Things worked out on this film so, he was able to get Elfman.

Danny Elfman IS going to score HELLBOY II and I feel privileged. I have worked with Marco Beltrami many times and will work with him soon enough but I believe we will have a beautiful score with Elfman, whom I admire greatly (in fact the "Title sewquence" music cue had the "Ta-de-dum-ta-de-dum" rythm by explicit request by me in an atempt to make it kind of Elfmanesque) and with whom I share a dark view of the world.

Some of Beltrami's smaller theme's from the first movie were fantastic though, and Elfman is not likely to copy them so this dissapoints me a bit.

I loved the score from the first film. Rasputin even had one of the best villain themes I've ever heard. Apparently the Elfman craze has made other great composers a lil bit underrated.

I would've preferred it if Marco Beltrami had returned for this film. However, Elfman could be good as long as he works around the themes and general mood Beltrami established in the first film. I fear he will not however... in which case the choice sucks.

To be honest i dont want to hear the score until i see the movie, i just hope it lives upto expectations when we eventually do see it.

Congratulations to Marco Beltrami. He got his first oscar nomination for the movie 3:10 to Yuma. I haven't seen the movie or heard the score yet. But I'm sure the score is great as is the case for most of Beltrami's scores. I wish he was nominated three years ago for Hellboy. At least the Academy has finally noticed the man's talents. Good luck oscar night. Belters if you are reading this, which you probably aren't, I'm sad you won't be continuing your Hellboy legacy. Hopefully this nomination will open more doors for future projects like you should've been getting after T3 and especially Hellboy and I' Robot. Thanks and good luck again.

Probably sooner. They started on it this month so, it's not unreasonable to think that we should hear glimpses either in the new trailer that hits in March, or shortly thereafter.

I doubt he'll re-use any themes. He'll probably want to do his own thing.
