It's been 8 frickin years since DD came out. Why haven't we heard word of Marvel Studios getting back the rights to this property?

Seems to me that there usually is a 5 year grace period where the studios have to do something with the property or else it reverts, that's why Fox keeps squeezing out X-Men material and why they'll keep doing so for eternity :cmad:.

I heard the same thing of FF, the pressure is on now for them to push out a remake for 2012.

Sony took 5 years but we'll be seeing another Spidey adaptation for next summer.

Same thing goes for Ghost Rider, it'll be out by 2012.

I've heard nothing concrete for DD and before we know it it'll be at the 10 year mark, does someone have to make a move, is DD locked down for even longer than other properties?

Marvel Studios needs DD damn it! Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, and even Captain America are all heavy duty guys. They don't have a Batman... They don't have someone to deal with the lower rungs of scum.

Someone please tell me what is happening!!!

I agree with the sentiment, but it was recently reported that Fox is developing a Daredevil reboot to be helmed by David Slade (Hard Candy, 30 days of Night, Eclipse).

No no no no no no no no...
Set in stone...
No..:barf:

This is such ********... On his imdb it has him doing pre-production for two other things, not a word of Daredevil... How can Marvel allow this? So I assume he won't touch DD until he is done with this Jude Law film which will probably be by 2012, 9 damned years after the last one.... OMFG WHY AM I HAVING AN EPISODE OVER THIS?
I should be a grown man by now...
I need to sleep.
This sucks.
I'm being a baby.
I don't care.
Marvel needs better lawyers. Oh the irony.

Well the rights were licensed out by Fox. Them's the breaks. I don't like it either since they've been dragging their feet on Daredevil and Fantastic Four. At this point it's like they just don't want anyone else to make a movie off the properties and try and make money from them. That would be embarrassing for Fox if that hapened.

They're being bigger babies about it than I am.
David Slade is such a "meh" director, I can't see anything of value coming out of this, just a glossy piece of crap.

Is there any chance that this falls through, or even if it does they'll still have extended their lease because it was "officially" in production?

Well Avi Arad when he was at Marvel signed the contracts that gave over studios the film rights. Avi should of put better stipulations in the contracts but they were not in the position to do so because before X-Men & Spider-Man hit big at the box office they were not viewed as being very profitable.

Avi Arad has spoken before about going around Hollywood in the 90s when he took over at Marvel telling studios the rights to Spider-Man alone were worth a billion dollars and the studio execs laughing in his face.

When Superhero movies became a success their was a goldrush for the rights and Avi Arad/Marvel cashed in without proper thought of the consequences to be honest.

Marvel/Disney are not in a rush to get the rights back anyway they have a slate of Avengers characters movies and sequels as well as Runaways and characters like Black Panther, Doctor Strange and so on they still want to bring to the big screen.

They will get the characters back but when they thing the time is right.

What happened to Marvel in the 90's they almost went bust didn't they?
Was it just because they were overprinting their product?

I keep thinking this thread says "Daredevil back to Marvel Studios... WOW" but then realize it's not a celebratory thread. :(

Anything Slade has touched so far has been glossy godawfully grimdark crap, lets hope that somehow Daredevil will be his opus, his raison d'etre, and for once in his awful career he makes something that isn't completely forgettable.

I think he'll do a great Daredevil, he seems to have that dark and violent sensibility

yeah i like slade's work

i love hard candy and 30 days of night was'nt bad

Just so long as Daredevil doesn't grow fangs or start glowing in daylight.

Wouldn't David Slade be better suited directing a movie about Morbius?

Yes because we know when a directed directs one movie things that happened in his previous film carry over.

C'mon.

Joke, Blackman. Joke.
It's just that so far, Slade has shown a penchant for making (good) vampire movies. I'm not sure that qualifies him to be the top candidate for a Daredevil movie.

But then again, Nolan's background was cerebral thrillers, and Favreau's background was kiddie movies. So....yeah.
