Dave Gibbons Visits The Set and Loves It

Clive Owen and Bruce Willis aren't B-List, no, and neither is Benicio Del Toro.

But Mickey Rourke is B-List, probably even C at this point in his career. And Rosario Dawson is B-List, yeah. And totally miscast, IMO. Gail came off to me as a bit older, more mature woman in her mid-30's, in the comics. Yeah, I know, Frank Miller approved it and loved everything, but he's been coasting on fumes for the past 10 years.

Michael Madsen is B-List, sleep-walking through his part. Nick Stahl is B-List, decent, but B-List. Same with Jaime King. Elijah Wood was way too young to play Kevin (who looks late 30's in the books, balding and everything).

And don't get me started on the lame goons (were those Robert Rodriguez's friends/cousins/nephews/interns?), the "hookers" who weren't nearly as bad-assed as they seemed in the comics (didn't anyone teach them how to hold and fire guns in a convincing way?), Brittany Murphy's (she's pretty much B-List by now, yeah?) atrocious acting, the bad makeup on Marv, the sets which swung from excellent to "80's music video," the rushed editing, the awkward pacing, and the fact that it felt more "slapstick" than "gritty."

All my opinion, of course. :)

I bet some jackass will start a new thread for this. Just remember that Sad Lieutenant took the high road. This is from the one clever interviewer at Wizard:

I didn’t want to bring up any of the movie stuff, particularly because that’s a horse that’s been beat to death…

MOORE: Is this the Watchmen question?

Well, it’s a Watchmen question. I was just wondering if you had seen the new piece of art that Dave Gibbons had done for the poster?

MOORE: No. I spoke to Dave the other day. I got a piece of paper—they must’ve learned something from the “V for Vendetta” debacle. I got a piece of paper a couple of months ago saying, “I, the undersigned, hereby give you permission to take my name off of the film and to send my money to Dave Gibbons.” So I sent that back to them all signed and sealed, which means that now I don’t have to rant and spew about the film. I’m just simply not interested in it. Dave phoned me up, and it’s always nice to talk to Dave, but he understands that I’m not really interested in “Watchmen.” So when he phoned, he asked me if I was interested in being kept up to date on it, and I was saying, “Well, it’s always nice to talk to you, but not really.” I don’t really know much about it. I believe that it’s going ahead. I won’t be watching it, obviously. I can at least remain neutral to it as long as they’re taking my name off of it and not playing these silly, ultimately futile games like they were doing last time, which worked out so well for them. No, I’m keeping well away from all of that.

Who can blame him?

There is just no way to please that man. Oh, well. As Zack Snyder stated, maybe when it's on dvd, and has nothing else to do, Moore might be tempted to watch it.
