It just occurred to me: the Variety thing said "not expected to return" regarding Singer and Routh. Since we know Singer is going back to school with the X-Men, what are the chances that WB will reconsider Routh?

LatinoReview said "Brandon Routh will not star in the film. ". I really wanted Routh back. Not only because I loved him as Superman, but also because I'm scared of who they'll cast (going by their pre-SR and JLM choices).

I was scared before SR and we got Routh who I liked, so I guess the same could happen again. I can't wait to find out who they'll cast.

well that was then dark and things are different with wb and dce now. Hopefully casting will be all around solid like the nolan batman movies, or heck ironman casting, or even how thor casting shaped up.

What bothers me about AICN's item that tells us it was "just a rumor," is the line, "it's not even at the scripting stage," or something. Um... I don't know too much about Hollywood, and yes, there are vagueries that linger here and there, but SHOULDN'T THE SCRIPT BE THE FIRST AND FOREMOST PART OF MAKING ANY FILM!?!

Sounds good!

Goyer will most likely outline the story and write the script, but I'm sure there will be another screenwriter or two attached to polish the final drafts and screenplay.

I think some of us had a feeling this Supes reboot might involve some of the guys who worked with Nolan on Batman, since Nolan might wind up being a producer on the next Supes film anyway.

Glad it will not be a full fledged origin, but show the characters already established in a FRESH setting with NEW actors and a NEW main baddie we have not seen before in any previous Supes film....BRAINIAC! I'm hoping we see Geoff Johns version of Brainiac.

Like hearing that we will also see a fresh Krypton mythology developed as well, so I'm sure we will see Jor-El and Lara in the film.

Awesome news!

I'm just glad that we'll finally get to see Superman duking it out with a supervillain using modern movie magic.

In case you haven`t heard, Dark Knight, Jonathan Nolan is helping him with the script...

I'm very excited by the news. Seems big blue will fly again soon. Between this, and the Cap finalists it's like fangasm overload today. A slightly more established Supes and I will have to rework my choices.

Most surprising thing of the day is Variety actually giving LR credit for scooping it.

sounds good that goyer is onboard to script. weird though since superman returns was about an established superman, no origin, people are supposed to know jimmy, lois, and perry. sounds like superman returns with brainiac. i'm honestly surprised wb is even considering it. why not just do superman begins? reboot every failed dc franchise with a begins movie. look how well it worked before.

yes people are "tired" about seeing superman's origin, but we've really only seen it once live action. bits and pieces in tv with superboy and smallville, but we've never really seen it post byrne era in film. so much has changed and with the technology today we could see something awesome.

Excellent and I'm not surprised.

When we heard a few weeks ago Nolan will be involved in a "mentoring" and overseeing the development of the Supes reboot film....I said don't be surprised if Nolan winds up with a executive producer credit and if he brings in Goyer and Jonah to polish the story and script.

It'll be interesting to see who winds up being the director now.

my issue with the origins is that..it is familiar. i think people enough about it.

I don't mind flashbacks though but Superman needs to get out of first gear. that's one of the reasons why Superman Returns failed: despite the superious changes made (Superman being gone, and having a kid) the narrative is the same damn thing. And Joe Public's view of Superman didnt' change: They thought it was boring.

Well Superman is not boring. You wanna make a movie where non-fans can embrace it and reject the old stereotypes of Superman being 'dull'.

It's time to get progressive and get into new territory. Having a kid is progressive in the wrong way, especially for a character like this.

I think not having a full scale origin film is smart actually.....just as long as the Krypton mythology is developed and shown in an updated way and if they use Byrnes work as some influence, then I'm sure we will see the Kents alive and well (at least for most of the film anyway).

Another big addition that may wind up being tied to this Krypton mythology is having Brainiac in the film.....FINALLY!

i still hope we will get some origins, and being a reboot like others have pointed out we dont know who or how the characters will be. How established will lois/perry/jimmy be. Will superman/clark been active for a bit like batman 89 or could we start out the film with a new to the city clark/superman.

Yeah, like Returns, only without Jason, or Richard, a physical threat to Superman, a mythology of Krypton probably having Brainiac partly responsible for its destruction, The Planet struggling because of the internet. Yup it sounds like the same movie to me.

So then maybe they'll have Brainiac be an android created by the Kryptonians. :yay:

This is great news about Goyer writing Superman. He knows his stuff. And the fact that it'll go back to the John Byrne incarnation is wonderful!

It's time we got a revamped and modern Superman.

I've had enough of the whole Donner thing. Of-course Christopher was a great Superman, but it is time to move on, there's more to Superman than old movies, he is from a comic book and it is time to see a faithful modern Superman movie. It's good to hear that they don't have to go back to retelling the whole origin thing. I'm sure they'll update that but not have to go over board with it.

I hope this really happens. Also good to hear Routh and that moron Singer are not involved. Superman's been through enough crap. It is time he gets the respect he deserves. He needs a movie as big and fun and faithful as Batman Begins and Ironman.

:supes: And it's about time a real Super Villian like Brainiac makes his way into a movie.

btw, to sub-zero,

jimmy and perry were always lightly portrayed in the Superman movies.
one's the boss and the other, the geeky dude at the Daily Planet. it's not like they had character arcs where you have to build them the ground up.

Ever heard the phrase "going another way"?

exactly. yes, do it!!! do it now, WB!!!

Goyer can be great at doing scripts, but whatever happens, god Help us and don't let this man Direct the movie.

You all saw what he did to Blade Trinity!

I hope Nolan knows what he's doing. I guess Nolan's brother will be there to help Goyer and keep in check the script and tone.

They might tackle his origins as the story moves forward thats what they did in John Byrnes Man of Steel, they could really tackle it in a sequel (with flashbacks).

How do we know the Nolans are helping? I want to hear something official.

I understand what you mean. This is all legit though. News will continue to flow.

As I said before don't be surprised if they look at casting Superman from the leftover Captain America contenders.
in the name of god.:wow:

Showtime give me a realistic year. 2012 or 2013?:woot:

Actually yeah, we are working on it. M. Corleone who has been in this very thread created a new logo for the debut on IESB. They've actually been recording shows, and have four of them in the bag. I was on the first one. The interface is different on IESB and we've been struggling to adapt. Should be soon.

TMT will debut a new podcast soon there as well with a working title of Crashing Hollywood.
Phil is still in the movie moan podcast right? :yay:
