With the Judas Contract on the horizion and rumors of a Batman/Harley Quinn team-up movie I figured why not ask fellow DC fans what comic stories they'd like to see adapted to animation.

So any ideas? It could range from the popular to the obscure. What would you like to see?

Off top Kingdom Come animated in the Alex Ross style has been long overdue.

I'd also like to watch Blackest Night and Brightest Day.

Couple of other lesser known stories could be Cyborg: Unplugged and Superwoman: Who Killed Superwoman?.

But instead of being a Cyborg solo have it be a Justice League story with Cyborg and Shazam! as the main players.

Another one that I just finished reading that would make for a great animated film is Phil Jimenez' Superwoman: Who Killed Superwoman? as a team up film with Superwoman, Superman (Lex Luthor with that badass New God Armor), and Steel vs Lena Luthor. Lena Luthor reminded me a lot of Tetsuo Shima in this story and anything that can remind me of Akira is great in my humble opinion. And Lex was hilariously arrogant and smug. He makes a great antihero in this story.

The '52' series from 2006/2007 as a 52 episode Game of Thrones style show.

Batman: The Long Halloween - in the Tim Sale style, not the DCAU style.
Catwoman: The Dark End of the Street - The first arc by Darwyn Cooke and Ed Brubaker or adapt Selina's Big Score and incorporate the Catwoman look into it more. His style deserves to be shown again in the animated films.

Azzarello's WW run, perhaps in two parts.

Johns' Shazam origin story.

Sinestro Corps War

Forever Evil

A New Gods movie

Darkseid War

The Books of Magic (the original)

Kingdom Come
Superman Secret Origin
Cosmic Odyssey

Just a few that spring to mind

Kingdom Come
Darkseid War
Superman: Red Son
JL: A League of One
Justice
Superman: For Tomorrow
Batman: Venom
Batman: Ten Nights of the Beast

Kingdom Come
Hush
The Long Halloween
Sinestro Corps War
Blackest Night
Robin Year One

Kingdom Come and Long Halloween would be killer, also would love to see Court Of Owls and Zero Year. I know Red Son has a motion comic, but I'd love to see an adaptation of that.

A modern, updated version of Knightfall split into 2 or 3 parts that's a little darker and more mature, similar to the Year One and Dark Knight Returns films. Exact same thing with No Man's Land, but would need to draw it out into 3 or 4 hours over at least two films, so they can get into the stories of the other characters like Gordon and Bullock, Barbara, Leslie Thompkins, etc.

I've not read Robin Year One. Take it you recommend it?

It's pretty good and worth it if you like the character. Definitely no Batman Year One, the tone, art, and dialogue reminds me more of a kids or young adult cartoon show than the more adult B:YO, for example, if that makes sense, but I guess that fits better with the more colorful character of Robin, and I think it's got some more adult themes like with Mad Hatter kidnapping and brainwashing young girls, but it's been a while since I read it, so my memory is hazy. It's worth having if you've got a Batman graphic novel collection going, but it wouldn't be the top of my list if I were collecting them.

Oh, and after I bought the graphic novel, I saw they have a graphic novel with both Robin and Batgirl: Year One, for close to the same price, so that might be the one you'd prefer

Thanks for the info!

JOKER

Darkseid War

Rebirth

Batman: Europa

Gotham City Sirens

Reign of the Supermen

Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth.

Batman: The Long Halloween
Batman: Knightfall
Batman: No Man's Land
Batman: RIP
Batman: Gothic

Anything but Batman related stories. The character is shoehorned into everything and his fanboys annoy me!

Kingdom Come is one of my top pics too, but only if the art was up to the standard of Ross' brilliance, there are so many nuanced expressions and shades of meaning in the art, sigh. A poor animation would be very sad indeed.

other picks(which others have also mentioned) :

Red Son (motion comic is not enough!)

Sinestro Corps war

Doom Patrol: the painting that ate Paris

Animal Man: Coyote Gospel

Earth 2 (the Grant Morrison one-shot) and

Earth 2 (the Tom Taylor series).

Forever Evil: the main storyline, not all the side stories.

Crisis on Infinite Earths

Legion of Super Heroes, an eye for an eye.

Batman: Venom

Batman: Court of Owls and City of Owls.

Books of Magic (great suggestion FeedOnATreeFrog )

Almost any Constantine story (although it would need to be R rated).

Disagree, it's just that the character is so well conceived and compelling that he has almost limitless story potential. In fact some of DC's most legendary stories have been about Batman.

I bet an R-rated animated Lobo movie will come out within the next two years.

Batman: The Long Halloween
Batman: Knightfall
Batman: No Man's Land
Batman: RIP
Batman: Gothic

There is apparently an animated version of The Long Halloween in the works.

Have to go with Sinestro Corps War as my top pick. I highly doubt they could do that storyline justice in live action, if that's ever even a possibility. Animation is the way to go for now.

Oh my gosh yeah a sinestro corps war movie done right would be mind blowing! And very related to today's issues

There are a lot of stories they "could" adapt...but should they?

The last movie i thought was at least decent, was assault on arkham.
Everything else, especially the justice League animated movies were horrible imo.

So im really careful at this point.
The Long Halloween, Dark Victory, gotham by gaslight, endgame, death of the family, a proper court of owls story, no mans land, knightfall are all batman related stories in once want to see adapt in any kind of way.

There are dozens of good storys out there for the justice league, for the justice league members etc.

But it all comes down to the quality of it.

Years ago Lauren Montgomery, a director at WB animation, pushed for a Batgirl:Year One adaptation. Bruce Timm was on board, the project was greenlit and there was test animation done for it (It was going to be cgi. A bit of the, I believe, several minutes of animation can be seen in the 'Batman:The Brave and the Bold' finale.). The film was cancelled after lackluster sales for the Wonder Woman animated film- that was thought to mean that female leads couldn't sell the animated titles.
I would love if 'Batgirl:Year One' could be revived, particularly if Joss Whedon's Batgirl film isn't an origin story (if it really is based on the New52 version, not quite sure how it could be, other than maybe some flashbacks). It could be a nice promotional tie-in.
The only unfortunate thing is that Lauren Montgomery could no longer direct it- she's at DreamWorks animation now.
