DC Comics Solicitations for August of 2010:

It looks like the Secret Six issue is going to a flashback sort of tale. Looks intriguing :D

-Ah, I thought Chris Sprouse was the regular artist for The Return of Bruce Wayne. I didn't know it was suppose to be a rotating team. I guess that's what you get for not following something, then picking it up after seeing that name on the cover. Big disappointment; honestly, I think the certainty of keeping with the mini might have went down.

-Not sure if I'll check out that little two issue fill-in Morrison is doing for Batman or not. I'm kind of interested in what Batman did in-between RIP and FC, but I think more of me really doesn't care so much.

-Emerald Warriors could be cool, though that cover makes Guy's face look weird as hell

-An Adam Stranger and Lois Lane team-up for The Brave and the Bold? Weird one, but JMS has been fairly solid in his odd match ups.

-Even though I thought the first issue was decent enough, I can't help but feel the whole White Canary stuff in Birds of Prey seems so lame.

Sprouse really ought to be drawing something regularly. I love his art.

Ditto. I don't know what he's been up to for the past few years. I know he was on that Midnighter ongoing for a little while, now he's doing the new Tom Strong miniseries, but besides that, he's not done anything recently that I'm aware of.

He only did like 2 arcs of the Midnighter ongoing. Then another artist took over. It boggles my mind that he's not getting more work, but part of me assumes that he's just not very fast. That seems to be the main thing keeping really great artists from doing regular work.

Yeah, you're probably right. I think when Tom Strong was coming out it was on a bi-monthly schedule, then eventual became a 'whenever it comes out, it comes out' title

Lame how?

I'm giving it a few issues before passing judgement on the character and the storyline

Pretty much any taking of one character and making a copy with a different color seems lame to me. Sometimes it ends up okay, but other times it ends like Red Hulk and She-Hulk. Even when it does end up okay, it always feels like a lame and uninspired idea to me

If White Canary is Lady Shiva, I'm fine with it. 1) It'll obviously only be a temporary identity, and 2) it works in the context of BoP, given the weird relationship Simone built up between Shiva and Dinah in the previous volume.

Yeah, I kind of hope that ends up being the case. Even if it works, it still strikes me as a lame idea to do stuff like that. I have a feeling it'll end up being Cass, though.

But editorial does :awesome:

I don't know, not really basing it off anything really, just kind of a feeling. I think they're building up for Babs to return to the Batgirl mantle and by having Steph fail (as I'm sure her series will) and Cass turning evil, therefore failing on a different level, it seems like it'd lay the groundwork for them to do that

I can't imagine why anybody would want Babs to go back to being Batgirl. She's so vastly superior as Oracle. If they want her to walk again, that's one thing, but just have her put on an Oracle costume and be more physical. No reason whatsoever to have her step away from the computers and go back to just fighting bad guys on the streets.

Oh, and just to let everyone know, the Newsarama link has been updated with Superman previews. I didn't know that Action Comics was suppose to have a Superboy co-feature, wonder if it'll lead into the series

I don't want it or anything, but I think there's been too much success in bringing back 'iconic' characters to their mantles. I believe Didio has said he had plans to do so on occasion in the past, plus that coupled with Barry returning and apparently being successful doing so, makes me think it's an inevitability. And there's been the general treatment of the mantle in these last couple of years. Of course, that's all suspection on my part, so I may be wrong. I hope I am and all, but I won't be surprised to see a Batgirl: Rebirth, or something like it, in the next couple of years

I agree that Red Hulk is awful but I rather like She-Hulk. Her series was fun:yay: She's one of my favourite Marvel characters

I think it's Shiva as well. Given the two's history is makes sense for her to be the one in the costume and DInah even says that the White Canary's fighing stance is simmilar to Shiva's.

Plus she caled Dinah "Siu Jerk Tai" a nickname that as far as we know, only Shiva knows about

Red She-Hulk has a series of her own, it has to be a mini or something, right?

Then I hope the new Birds of Prey does really well to show DiDio that Babs is still a popular character outside of the Batgirl costume.

Ah, apologies. I thought we were talking about She-Hulk, not Red She-Hulk. I did not even know there was a Red She-Hulk. That is a really, really stupid idea much like Red Hulk

Do we know who it is? Wait, I forgot who I'm talking about. Knowing Loeb, even he doesn't know who the character is:doh:

It's Betty. It was revealed this week, along with the red Hulk being Thunderbolt Ross. The prevailing current theory about what happens to Ross' mustache when he changes are that he eats it for extra fiber to keep Rulk regular.

LOOOOOEEEEEBBBBBB!:cmad:

Full Solicits are up: http://www.newsarama.com/comics/dc-august-2010-solicitations-100517.html

-I have a feeling this arc of Power Girl will be the last one. Last time the comic numbers came out it was somewhere in the mid to upper 90s, so unless Winick pulls in some serious readers, I don't see it lasting long. Though, I'm fairly sure his stuff will probably suck either way

-I hate to say it, but these solicits for JMS' Wonder Woman run really aren't selling me. Maybe it'll be a case of it being so low key not to spoil anything. I'm going to go with that optimistic idea for now.

-Wow, that Ides of Blood sounds like an interesting concept. Never heard of the writer, though. Could be one of those things that click better than expected or come off really dumb.

-Sparta: USA has been pretty good I hope people are picking this up, but I know they aren't. God, I hate you people.

-I haven't been reading any of the GNs from Vertigo Crime, but that A Sickness in the Family sounds really interesting and a strong recommendation from Rucka. Too bad it's not out until October :/

-I just bought the first trade of Air but haven't read it, yet. I see it's ending at issue 24, I wonder if the writer is walking away or if it's been canceled. If the first trade is good I'll give the rest of the series a good.

-Buy Daytripper, people, buy Daytripper :(

-
When the mysterious mummy Amon takes her on the “Magical Memory Tour” and reveals secrets from Ancient Egypt to modern-day Oregon, Gwen quickly discovers that the world is much, much stranger than she ever imagined
Wow, seriously? I can't even fathom a world much stranger than the one we were introduced to in the first issue of iZombie. I also really hate this name change from I, Zombie. Feels too appley.

-When they first announced this idea of arcs based on the senses in Madame Xanadu the first thought that came to mind was, 'How are they going to do the smell part?' Yeah, I know, kind of weird thought on my part, but I really wasn't expecting it to focus on a kid who smelt like ****. Regardless, the solicits have been very interesting thus far for this arc. Just enough plot to wet your appetite without spoiling anything (Well, hopefully anyway).

Everything else seems solid. I'm glad to see the pricing with DC comics and Vertigo are staying around the $2.99 range and only go up with bonus pages. Sure, there's the occasional unneeded hike for whatever reasons. I see a lot of the license and creator owned stuff at WS starting to inflate, so it's probably only a matter of time, especially since Marvel's overall bottomline doesn't seem to be hurt too much from the price gouging inflation.
