DC May '09 Solicitations

I guess you also don't want the JSA founders hanging around then anymore either.

The last one I knew died just short of a year ago.

Superman and Batman will never give way to a new generation on any kind of permanent basis. They're too big and too iconic. The B-listers like GL and the Flash are the ones who are more malleable because they're not locked in place under the weight of their own history. Or at least that's the message DC gave us when they had new versions before and they worked wonderfully. But now DC's going back on that message and basically telling us to abandon any hope of real progress in their universe. Granted, it was probably foolish of anyone to hope that such progress would actually stick in the first place, but it did so for 20+ years in Wally's case.

You're the one being weird. Poopy head!!!

So my preference for Ryker not mixing with Kirk is crazy?

And where do you get off calling the Flash and Green Lantern B-Listers?

:cmad:

:doom: :doom: :doom:

Ryker and Kirk's stories both progress in real time. Comics don't. It's really as simple as that.

The way the Flash legacy is presented, it doesn't even match up with your estimation of how Bruce should be aging. Yeah, Bruce has been Batman for two iterations of the Flash (disregarding the Golden Age version of Batman, obviously). But it's not like Wally was an infant when they started out. Barry was middle-aged and Wally was a teenager, Barry dies and Wally takes over, Wally ages to mid-20s the same as Bruce's own sidekick Dick does, and Bruce is a very fit 40-something veteran while the younger generation has grown to adulthood. What's so wrong with that?

And then Bart came along.

So at this rate we'll have about 6 Flashes by the time Bruce retires. :whatever:

And I guess it was time for Kyle to go anyway. After all it's been ten years. Time for a chick Green Lantern.

Am I so crazy to want the "Cast" to stay together. Every time you break up a cast the show jumps the shark.

:gl: :gl: :gl:

There is no bloody cast! The cast got broken up way back when Barry was introduced, creating a schism between the Golden Age characters and this new bunch of upstarts. I could understand if you were ranting and raving about the original characters getting replaced, but Hal and Barry are themselves replacements. Hell, with Barry you don't even have the convenient excuse of the Silver Age version introducing lots of new elements like Hal did to the GL legacy; Barry is basically a younger Jay with a slicker costume in terms of the character's backstory and contributions to the legacy.

So Superman 1 and Superman 2 are the same character now? That's crap.

The JLA is a cast and Hal and Barry are part of it.

:thing: :doom: :thing:

To your generation, sure. My generation sees the Flash and GL as part of the Justice League, not necessarily Barry and Hal. Wally and Kyle worked just as well during the Morrison/Waid/Kelly golden era. :oldrazz:

Well Kyle and Wally should have gotten a different Superman, Wonder Woman, and Batman and formed the Justice Squad of America.

:D

:gl: :gl: :gl:

So now Barry is boring? Wow. That's new. Seems like that revelation only happened when we found out he was coming back.
Did I say that? No, I said that Barry became far more significant by dying than he ever did by living. Barry turned into a completely different character and meant something completely different to the DCU in the years following his death than he ever was in life. And it's that Barry that we're going to be getting in Rebirth, not your Silver Age guy, but one that "post-Crisis" writers like Waid and Johns made us nostalgic for and one that's just as "post-Crisis" as Wally and Kyle are. Even moreso, in fact. But then, as Corp has mentioned, Hal is currently no more like his silver age characterization than Barry is going to be, so I suppose you won't mind.

The idea that there have been legions of Barry fans just positively gushing and aching for his return is a pretty big stretch on your part. And it's completely ridiculous for you to claim that Barry fans somehow have seniority or majority over Wally fans or something. That's some kind of absurd, unsubstantiated notion that could only come from a very bitter place of thinking...
Well I'm tired of placating your group. Barry is coming back. Deal with it. The Green Lantern mags are selling like hotcakes and I'm betting Barry's will too.

I think I'll buy three copies each month. One for me, one for Brian, and one for Corp.
...but then, I suppose you are a pretty bitter guy.

In any case, I'd be shocked if DC only publishes one Flash book after Rebirth.

Yeah. I'm getting all my favorite characters back. I'm SO bitter.

:D

BTW, Brian. I hope that our heated conversations aren't turning personal. I've never meant to personally insult you. We just have different preferences.

I don't want our net relationship to become like mine and Aristotle's did.

Friends? :D

:gl: :gl: :gl:

I think we could all stand to lose a bit of the edge in our conversations with each other on stuff like this. These things tend to become insult-fests more and more lately, and I think it's because everyone immediately starts out with more snark than the conversation warrants.
Well Kyle and Wally should have gotten a different Superman, Wonder Woman, and Batman and formed the Justice Squad of America.

:D

:gl: :gl: :gl:
I would've been down with that.

Is this a trick? Don't try to trick me, I've read all about those. There's an assassin right behind me right now, right? It's okay, 'cause I sent one after you too.

I mean, sure. :D! Yup.

In other news, that Wonder Woman solicit is just a world of UGH to me. I'm sure I might like the issue when it comes out, but the solicit itself is like the most fail solicit ever. "Wonder Woman fights Genocide...again. But this time MORE!" Wow. Thanks.

Are you feeling underwhelmed with Simone's run, too? It was off to a good start, but then it just sort of started losing steam for me.

I'm fairly excited about the Manaz...the Gargareans. Genocide, though? Genocide at this point has maybe half an issue before being considered Big Fail.

I'm so uninterested in WW at this point that I haven't even read last month's issue with Cheetah as the FoE cover. :o It just feels like it could be so much better. Same feeling I get when I read Outsiders or JLA.

There was a pretty great moment with Diana, Donna, and Cassie in the last issue. And then not much else.

I think it will get better, though. Again, the Gargareans seem like an actual solid plotline instead of some crazy stupid thing.

I think what's got me down most is the Greek gods returning and being all ******ed and evil and, for whatever reason, forgetful (). Diana's world seems very much cut in half with Themyscira an empty husk and the gods all off their rockers.

So Superman 1 and Superman 2 are the same character now? That's crap.

:thing: :doom: :thing:

The Green Lantern and Flash of the JLA should be whoever is in the main book IMO. Whether it be Hal, Kyle, Barry, Wally, or Bart (in this case Hal and Barry).
