DC Property into a TV Series

{Challengers of the Unknown}

This fall on CBS
Staring...

Tim Daly as Ace Morgan Crack Pilot, Team Leader

Matthew Perry as Prof Haley Master Diver, Scientist

Zac Efron as Red Ryan Daredevil Stunt Rider, Mountaineer

Dwayne Johnson as Rocky Davis Olympic Champion, Adventurer

Not sure about the cast, but I'd like to see this show. It would be a cool way to introduce other DC heroes too. Adam Baldwin for Rocky though.

I Would love to see a Nightwing show. Have him just starting out in Bludhaven and use his villains such as Blockbuster, Deathstroke etc and Batman villains not likely to appear in the films such as Mr Freeze, Clayface and Man-Bat. Have Oracle be a regular who can also give him updates on what Bruce is up to and have him team up with Tim Drakes Robin sometimes. Have the style of the show be similler to Angel. Hopefully when the nolan movies end and hopefully the Bat-Embargo is lifted have Batman appear..... It could really work.

Could a series like 100 Bullets be made into a TV show on HBO?

Easily.
The only downside might be that, it runs the risk of becoming a procedural show where the long term story only lasts each episode.
More of like a season full of one shot episodes, similar to THE TWILIGHT ZONE or FANTASY ISLAND.

Don't know if that kind of show will work these days.
But if they put in some long arcing storylines... then it has MAJOR potential.

FYI: I haven't read much of the series, a couple of issues... so if they have that element in the comics, I apologize. lol.

An AMC or HBO Sandman Mystery Theater please. It could be kinda like Mad Men meets The Shadow... I mean, who WOULDN'T watch that?!
Oh, James Spader as Dodds.

A Sherlock style BBC miniseries of Hellblazer. Done faithfully with a proper Constantine (I'm thinking Marc Warren)

I thought the same during the CONSTANTINE movie.
HELLBLAZER is RIPE for a series.

Especially watching successful shows like SUPERNATURAL take off, that deals with similar demons/angels and hell/heaven BS.
Also, a series could explore the character and create an unknown vibe about him which comes out through out the series.

Some interesting supporting characters would make it an awesome show.
I would prefer SYFY or AMC to pick it up though.

I don't know if an out and out 'Superhero' show like NIGHTWING would take off.
Case in point: BIRD OF PREY :S.

I think more of a fantasy, vigilante, dark comedy themed thing would work easier than a pure heroic style.
Closes to a 'hero' I think would be HUMAN TARGET.

Jonah Hex.

This guy would make for a sick friday night tv show, totally different than the movie, allow for numerous wild west shows.

As well, it wouldn't need a large budget to come off as effective.

 Great idea. And Nightwing being one of my favorite characters, i'd love to see this. :csad: But I doubt WB doesnt anything with Nightwing

I think it's time for the return of western style tv series. I watch Gunsmoke and Bonanza and all of those old western shows when they're on. Jonah Hex would make for a great series I think.

And until the Bat-Embargo is lifted, if it ever is, the reason could be that Dick Grayson is setting out on his own. He sort of cuts Batman out completely, no help from Batman. He is going to make it completely on his own without any help from Bruce. We could even see him almost call Bruce once in a while. That would then explain why Batman never shows up.
It always bugged me when I saw a few episodes of Birds of Prey, that Batman never came to help but was talked about. I don't remember the reason he wasn't there. But I think this would be a good reason.

Dick leaves Gotham and being Robin to make it on his own and prove himself. The series could sort of focus on him creating Nightwing and making a name for himself sort of thing.
I like the idea of other characters like Oracle and villains not usable in Nolan's world showing up from time to time. I also love the idea for the former Robin teaming up with the new Robin.
That would be cool. It could be like a major episode of the season. And it could the big episode where many more details are revealed about Batman and his relationship with Tim and with Dick and why Dick left without hitting us over the head with it.

This is pretty much along the lines of what i was thinking, you can work around not having Batman in the show quite easily while still using the Bat-World. Characters like Mr Freeze, Man-Bat, Clayface, Poisen Ivy, Huntress and Robin could easily be used. The Nightwing comics had a great cast as well with great villains. You could also have Teen Titans or The Outsiders guest star. It could so easily be done its sad that it hasnt' already.

I dont agree, Nightwing would be great. Birds of Prey did not take off because it was **** and took too many liberties with the souce material. At least Smallville is good.

Nightwing could do well.
Wonder Woman could do well again.

Non-costumed fare could do much better, Human Target's a great example.

A Batman series would be perfect. Start with "Year One" and go from there. Maybe "The Man who Laughs" also. I'd wait until the end of the first season to introduce the Joker though. Take the last scene from "Year One" with Gordon mentioning the Joker as the "end of the season cliff hanger."

The do stories from"Night Cries," "Batman and the Monster Men," "Batman and the Mad Monk," "Long Halloween" and "Dark Victory" with heavy borrowing from "Gotham Central" for characters and stories from the point of view of "regular" people.

A well done series where we get to see the characters evolve over a whole season would be great, better than the movies. We'd really get to see why Wayne has to be Batman and not just a cop or something. We'd really get to see why Gordon trusts a masked vigilante more than the GPD. We'd see how Wayne learns to become the greatest crimefighter the world has ever known. We'd get to see Harvey Dent turn into Two-Face and feel the pain of that transition after seasons of seeing him as a good guy and a close allie of Batman and Gordon. As good as the movies are, the can't match what a television show could do because a television show has a lot more time to show things that have to be implied in movies.

There could still be movies too. For instance the Ra's Al Guhl stories would make great summer block buster movies that could be set in the same continuity, but not be completely necessary to enjoy the show.

In my follow up post to this, I posted it could be like X-Files-superhero style. It would be a neat way to introduce lesser known superheroes also.

I know some of these are kind of going off of Smallville, but they really won't have to be.

Zatanna - it would be like Charmed with a Superhero Twist.

Martain Man Hunter more focused on him being a Detecive would be great.

I like the people who Mentioned the Question couldn't go wrong with him if he was done right. and if it was (VIC SAGE) otherwise no question on tv.

a Live action Justice League show with lesser know heroes would work, but before anyone says it has been done, look at who they used. they used a bunch of C and D list heroes that werent that great, and even though you had 2 origial A list League heroes, you didn't have the original power of the league still there. they used Flash, Green Latnern, Fire, Ice, and Atom what a Waste, this is why smallville's league was better, so if you made a league show and went with say Green Arrow, Black Canary, Captian Marvel, Zatanna, Supergirl, Hawkman, Blue Beetle and Firestorm you would have an Awsome show. and truthfully this could easily spin this off of Smallville.

also I like the Idea of a Johan Hex series.

I really think Batman/Wonderwoman, a lot of the big names would require a pretty big budget. I always felt smallville hurt from that. Some of the scenes were just so far fetched, they were smart in the sense to work his powers in so, as the more expensive scenes came in later, after the early success of the show.

Wonderwoman, I'd want to see some big beasts, that look real, not something that looks like a cheesy costume, that reminds you "this is tv."

Nightwing could work, since the villains are grounded, and you can easily change a lot of the costumes, and hell people still wouldn't know what they look like in the comics.

Why would you want to see big beasts in Wonder Woman? Are any of her rogues gallery big beasts? Or you just want to add some things from Greek Mythology that make the show impossible to make on a TV budget? There's nothing more grounded about Nightwing's villains either, and they are just as easily changeable. I'm not seeing the problems you're seeing, bruh.

Also, the Justice League from the live action show was the main team from the comics during the JLI days, and they were quite popular.

Regardless, they're not going to do anything that may interfere with Nolan's Batman, so you can kiss that goodbye.

A show like that with Cameron Chase as the main character and based on the comics Chase would be great.

And season two could have Jason Todd as the main bad guy.
The series would be about Dick's leaving Gotham and trying to get out of Bruce's shadow. And to Jason Dick is like the golden son. He's Bruce's favorite. While Jason is the son that just can't do things right, and he hates Dick for that.
(the only problem would be the timeline, since Dick sort of JUST left and jason came after and then Tim. Maybe if they fudged things a little and had Jason first.)
But I love the idea of Jason posing as Batman (with the gas mask stuff) and then showing up as Red Hood, and then as the Robin Masked Red Hood. Him showing up to hurt Dick because he hates his relationship with Batman, even though Dick would be currently estranged from Batman and on terrible terms. It would sort of be the opposite of the episode with Tim Drake, who looks to have a better relationship with Batman than Dick had. Season One it would be Blockbuster or something, season two could be Jason Todd.

I totally misread this sentence at first.

Yeah sounds good, but id rather that were later in the series because theres charcters like Deathstroke that id rather see as the big bad first, but i would like to see Todd, an episode where Its Dick and Tim vs Jason would be awsome...

Id say you'd have to do a nightwing series, the nightwing character is just so special and unique and has a wide range of fans that love nightwing because lets not forget he is dick grayson, the most popular robin and probably the most popular sidekick ever. And the way he developes into his own person is amazing, there is so much you could do with that character and so much you could in that series that fans and even newbies would love to see, i really am hoping WB does a nightwing series sometime soon
