DC Universe - Justice League Dark: Apokalips War (2020)

Spring will see the release of Justice League Dark: Apokolips War, a follow-up to 2017’s successful Justice League Dark. One of DC’s few R-rated animated movies, Justice League Dark saw Batman helping to assemble a team of occult and magic-based heroes to combat a series of supernatural attacks. Featuring the likes of John Constantine (who was voiced by Matt Ryan), Zatanna, Swamp Thing, Deadman, Etrigan and Black Orchid, the 2017 movie blended heroics with horror, bringing some of the darker corners of the DC Universe to a broader audience.

While it’s unsure which heroes will be returning for Apokolips War, the title suggests we might be seeing some of Jack Kirby’s New Gods, meaning it likely has some pretty big stakes for the ongoing DC Universe continuity.

Agreed. It kinda feels like a JL vs Darkseid story, with additional characters like Constantine, Swamp Thing etc. But I for sure wanna watch this.

I LOVE The Fact that its Like Full circle from JL WAR to JLD Apokolips WAR.

Also, BATMAN being the one who introduces JLD from the 1st movie..

and NOW in This Crisis level crossover sequel.. We Have SUPERMAN this time w/ JLD Against DARKSEID!

I always felt it made no sense that all the supernatural characters rarely took on Darkseid, they seem to be the ones that would have the best chance.

Culminating a six-year animated journey that began with the release of Justice League War in 2014, Justice League Dark: Apokolips War finds Earth decimated after intergalactic tyrant Darkseid has devastated the Justice League in a poorly executed war by the DC Super Heroes. The ''(For now)'' seems like PR fluff... but we'll just have to wait and see how it all unfolds moving forward.

Superman: Man of Tomorrow has been promoted as an original, standalone movie, so it probably won't be kicking off a new continuity.

I have enjoyed the new continuity for the most part, especially the recent releases. That being said, I'm happy to see a move towards more standalone features and, if I'm being honest, I wouldn't mind a continuation of the original DCAU w/ Bruce Timm & co. a la Justice League vs. The Fatal Five.

It'd be interesting to see a new animated universe take shape too

I can't wrap my mind around how they have outright refused to revive the Timmverse. Pretty much all the relevant cast and crew are down for coming back, and you've got a built-in audience from the past 30 years to build off of.

They've had 10+ years to create some sort of goodwill with these new continuities and one-shots, but generally it hasn't struck a huge chord with fans at all. It's likely they're settling for the bare minimum of "success", which is making just enough money to fund low-bar sequels.

I just hope DC animation goes with a new style instead of going back to the simplistic Timmverse style. After the innovative visuals and more realistic character designs that JL:War introduced, it was pretty jarring to revert back to the brick chins and skinny legs in JL vs the Fatal Five. Since this is the end, let's more forward, not back.

And for the love of Siegel and Shuster, don't use the continuity reboot as an
excuse to kill Superman yet again. DC went to that well 3 times in 11 years, so let's let the Man of Steel keep breathing this time around.

While I love the Timmverse and wouldnt mind if they brought it back with a WW show to complete the trinity all having shows....I think if anything they should look at reviving their animated tv continuity with Young Justice. That's a universe that really deserves and needs expanding.
