    Happy Independence Day, Guest!

DC's 2015 Event: CONVERGENCE

Yeah I don't think DC will give THAT much freedom. They still have certain agendas and characters they want to focus on.

Uh they could still focus on specific characters while allowing creators the freedom to work on whatever they want. Especially now that

1) They are making it clear even through marketing that "everything we have published in the last 80 years matters"

2) The Multiverse has been redefined by Grant Morrison recently specifically for the purpose of inspiring creators to go beyond just New Earth (Earth-0) when it comes to concepts to use when writing DC Comics. Earth-0 of course being the one most folks call "New 52" even though New 52 is actually a reference to the new multiverse.

So far we have just seen comics or characters from 4 known worlds on a more mainstream level (Earth-0, Earth-1, Earth-2 and Earth-3) it certainly doesn't mean that that will always be the case.

On top of that there are still 7 worlds in the known local multiverse that have no clear definition. Meaning any of the Convergence timelines could easily be collapsed into one of those Earths.

Going forward the focus will be on story and not tight continuity because there is a multiverse and as such stories that don't take take place on New Earth could still be considered "canon" for that reason (like the graphic novels that showcase Earth-1). Much like how it was when DC absorbed many of their past competitors like Quality Comics or Charlton Comics back in the day and set their stories on specific Earths within their multiverse.

Which is smart since it's what made DC so special from a storytelling standpoint back in it's greatest eras and is also a key reason publishers like Image and IDW are able to compete so fiercely with the big 2. That's their main publishing philosophy.

This is why we will have a comic with a teenage president elected through twitter coming in June without having to have the JL or any other hero or team speak on how their president is a teenage girl in their own comic books.

DC is going back to the approach they had in the silver age where creativity and story potency trump canon which is a long time coming.

Exclusive Cover Reveal: CONVERGENCE #2 Jae Lee Variant

As Telos, the Planet Incarnate, easily defeats the survivors of Earth 2, Thomas Wayne and Dick Grayson set off to find help in the pre-Flashpoint Gotham City. The emotional implication of these worlds colliding comes crashing down when Thomas Wayne confronts this world's Batman, as father meets son!
Plus, Alan Scott's attempts to connect with The Green yield unexpected results, setting our team on a quest to escape the planet. And the cyborgs of Futures End engage in a battle to the death against the reimagined heroes of the Just Imagine Universe, while the city of Superman Red and Blue takes on the opposing forces from GENERATIONS!

DC Head Explains Brainiac's Master Plan

So, what does everyone feel about Guy no longer being a Red Lantern, and possibly becoming a Blue Lantern in the future?

I think that conversation might be better suited for the Green Lantern thread.

Liking that preview for #0. The fact that I actually got all the Superman death references made me giddy. They truly are embracing everything that has been published by them with this event.

Can't believe I spent $4.99 downloading that piece of crap last night. That Convergence issue #0 should have been free. Nothing interesting happened in it! I normally love DC event books like Sinestro Corp War,countdown and Crisis, but this one I'll probably skip.
$4.99, thats like those rip off Marvel prices.

Week 1 is finally here and I'm ready.

I'm going to hate this because after Convergence I'm going to miss pre-52/Flashpoint Superman even more. I still wished that DC rebooted all of their heroes instead of some of their heroes for 52 then I guess I could've been more on board with everything. I just think it's unfair that most of the heroes got to keep their history at the expense of Superman and Wally.

I've been wanting closure for my favorite pre-Flashpoint characters for 4 years and DC finally listened when it comes to a lot of them. So I had to show support.

Just finished reading Superman. Man Jurgens just gets that particular version of Clark and Lois. Definitely still the same guy who was writing Superman back when I was a kid.

Found this exchange pretty interesting

Lois: That's possible? other Gotham Cities? other universes just like ours?

Superman: Infinitely possible, Lois.

:hmm

Just read Batgirl.

I really liked this issue a lot. It was like reading an issue featuring old friends; Cass had a nice awkwardness, Steph was entertaining and they did an excellent job of showing how all three of our Bat characters can read differently, but engagingly.

It also proved something to me; if the continuity featured in a story has positive momentum that I liked, then the whole context of the character is improved for me, and thus my enjoyment of the character increases. I loved Pre-Flashpoint Tim, and so even when he didn't do all that much here, I enjoyed him much more than any Post-Flashpoint appearance. That's defintiely a personal issue of taste, but I find that I can forgive Tim being a bit arrogant and overly protective when he's got the backstory and interactions of his old self.
