I've heard people refer to Dead Man's Shoes as the best British film in a decade.

It was made in 2004. It was shown on Film Four (now free) the other night, fortunately one of my friends recorded it and I watched it over at his house. He had been raving about the film, calling it one of the best he had ever seen, so I couldn't wait to watch it. He doesn't usually hype things up that don't deserve it.

It is a damn fine film. It's hard to talk about it too much without really ruining it. It does need to be experienced fresh. If you're American, you do need to watch this film. I'm not sure how popular it is among British folk, not popular enough because I hadn't heard of it until recently.

What it's about, without spoiling too much... it's set in a small town in Britain. A man called Richard, who had been in the military comes home. Through a series of flashbacks we learn that Richard's mentally disabled brother had fallen in with a bad crowd. This crowd were... bad to Richard's brother. Richard starts to take his revenge.

At times, it's a funny film, with the scenes of laddish drug dealers sitting around saying stupid stuff. As the film goes on though, you see just what scum these guys are. At times it's quite moving. I'm not ashamed to say I was nearly moved to tears.

It's a really well put together story. Richard is one scary bastard. Watch this film.

Its allright... Basically its what THE PUNISHER should have been.

Punisher would have been great if it were grittier, more underground, and just more along the lines of this movie.

Who wants spoiler discussion?

SPOILERS!!! DUM DUM DUM!!! DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVE NOT WATCHED THE FILM!!

The men that Richard killed were all scum and deserved to die. Quite frankly, I kind of wished he killed the last guy. Even though he wasn't directly involved... he said it himself, he did nothing. Doing nothing to help or stop the events makes him just as guilty. Though Richard no longer knew what he was capable of. He was a scary man, and there seemed to be an implication that he might have killed that man's kids.

I got it on dvd in 2005 (day it was released) and i thought it was ****ing amazing i loved every minute of it :D

Ive seen the trailer, what exactly did they do to his brother ?

Best really to just see the film as fresh as possible I think.

What's up with the reviews on rottentomatoes?

I usually despise film critics. Genuinely, half the time I feel like they're not even film fans. You have to watch more than just the big blockbusters to consider yourself a film buff.

Look at this...

"The film is filled with deeply unpleasant and stupid people whose vapid speech is largely incomprehensible due to thick regional accents."

Now, if they really did have thick regional accents, then I wouldn't have been able to understand them, living in Belfast. But I understood them perfectly well.

Another review suggests the movie would have been better with subtitles.

Are these critics really that stupid?? They're a disgrace to the profession. MOST critics are a disgrace to the profession.

I can't believe this film got such bad reviews at rottentomatoes. Reading through them, the bad reviews are made by people that just wouldn't enjoy this kind of film anyway, or people that didn't understand it.

I hate critics.
