Dead Space 2

And they confirm Isaac's not dead. Guess he beat up zombie Nicole.

I loved the first one, I hope they keep up the standard for the second. I really really hope its set on Earth. It will be like the Alien 3 we never got.

Well it'd have to be a different environment to the ship from the first one, to make it feel different..

And Nicole wasn't a zombie, it was Isaac going insane, like all the crew members

I liked the first one but hope they extend the scares beyond things jumping out his time around.

I thought the environment was pretty terrifying in itself. Sure they overdid the jump-scares and went a little over the top with some of the crew dementia, but I think they did a pretty good job with suspense and fear.

I would like to see a different enviornment for the second game, although even the planet level of DS was basically opened up corridors and rooms. If they go with Isaac, he has to speak and give him some character this time around. I would like to see something with maybe a woodland level. I'm not really sure where to go with the game after the first one.

They say in that link that things will be more psychological and whatnot, so it'd be great if we could get some F.E.A.R. style hallucinations... that'd be nice to vary things... maybe flashbacks to earth or something.

I hope the characters are more memorable this time around. They did a horrible job at making you care about any body in the first game. I also dont want to walk around a space ship again. A small section is fine, but if we are stuck on another space ship, things will get repetitive really fast. Even tho Dead Space was a new property, going through the game i couldnt help but say 'iv seen this all before'.

That's what I suspected, too, and I guess that pretty much confirms it. I hope they use that angle in the game and maybe have some gameplay aspects that tie into it.

Despite what anyone says, I still consider Dead Space to be one of the best survival horror in a good while, and still the premier horror title of this generation of console. Near flawless fusion of action and horror games, with great consoles and mechanics with a good story.

Anyway, what I would like to see:

-The one thing I really hope (now that Isaac is confirmed back) is that we will either see them give me a real personality or put him around more characters that are flushed out with real personalities. It's a tricky thing, since the game relies so heavily on isolation and alienation, but it needs some character thrown in there

-Earlier there were some things popping up about developers for the multiplayer of DS2. If that ends up being accurate I would love to see an Aliens-esque squad like multiplayer separate from the single player campaign. You could have slight modifications to the characters, make it more fast paced, etc, ala Resistance 2.

-Fix the backtracking issue. Probably the biggest problem I had with the original was this. It kind of recycled environments without literally doing so. We need a much bigger space ship, not literally since the one in the original was pretty damn big, but let that size reflect in level design. Or, to an alternative, give up a much larger space station or planet colony to explore with a variety of areas.

Really looking forward to this.

Yeah I agree....

Also Teardrop, the thing you posted in the gaming lounge thread said something about this time around Isaac is calling the shots and its about his own survival. That makes me think they might be addressing some of the above issues, and maybe taking a leaf out of the RE book of level progression, rather than backtracking.

I still have to play the 1st one

Same here I've done the first two chapters but never got around to beating it

I didn't mind the back tracking as much as I did my inability to melee attack any of the monsters.

That needs a serious fix.

Why couldnt you melee them? Doesnt the right trigger just let you bash them? Did for me... In fact melee got me out of loads of tricky situations.

The melee mechanic and hit detection was a common knock against the game in numerous reviews.

I didn't mind it so much. I always assumed it was just because Isaac wasn't a fighter, he was an engineer and it was more of attempted swipe. I like that he didn't feel too overpowered that way, unlike in RE 5, where you can pretty much take everyone out with gnarly kung fu just to save ammo. Melee in DS was pretty much a last resort.

The "wasn't a fighter" thing is not the point.

I'm talking about the game's inability to detect when I melee and enemy. Poor hit detection that needs fixing.

Yeah, maybe they could tighten it up, although I never personally had a problem.

I do seem to remember similar things happening with me as well, though I tried to avoid melee unless the creature was on the ground. Anyway, looks like Isaac's suit will get a slight redesign if this GI cover is accurate:

Hmm...I like Isaac's Dead Space 1 armor a lot better than that.

I haven't played Dead Space much, only a little when a friend was over. In the first one, his armor was less, well, badass. He was just supposed to be a futuristic engineer right? Now he looks like he raided some military armory.

I thought his fully upgraded armor from the first was game was extremely badass.

Ok, like I said, I didn't play far. Have a pic?
