Dead Space 2

I don't really like forced co-op either, but I'm not a fan of separate co-op, spec ops style. Its harder to speculate how they could incorporate it without knowing more details of the story...

It would be interesting if Dead Space 2 had some kind of online functionality similar to Demon's Souls.

They wouldn't even really have to incorporate into the story. They could do like the multiplayer in Resistance 2 and have self-contained multiplayer modes on maps based on levels of the space station.

Or do a self-contained story. Maybe something around the lines of some security-level people fighting their way through as they evacuate the station. Or just do like Mercenries mode in Resident Evil, only multiplayer based without the timer and focused more on finding a way out

Hmmm I dunno, i'd probably prefer the main campaign based co-op. I love to be able to share the main game experience with a friend... Even if the co-op version isn't as tight as it is single, just having the option to share it with someone else is always awesome.

Meh, I'm the exact opposite. I don't care much about forced campaign co-op, especially in games like these. If it ended up being forced co-op like RE5 this would drop on my list considerably.

Not so much forced though, if it was like halo 3, where it was justified that the second character was around, but not necessary if you want to play single player.

Yeah, I guess so, as long as it was totally optional and didn't gimp the single player not having that second person. Though, that would seem to me something more for action games

Lol well I'm a co-op ****e. After playing Borderlands, i've just thought 'You know what? I think EVERY game should be Co-op lol'....

Haha sometimes i think the same thing(altho i really love a good SP game). But i like your Halo idea. Have it be that if you want to play co-op you can, i mean the story doesn't necessarily have to be altered, just add that second person. Then again, i prefer my co-op to be meaningful most of the time.

I say if they add co-op for this, do what Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory did and what Splinter Cell: Conviction is going to do, have the co-op run parallel or prior to the single player story. Give us another perspective. For instance in the new Splinter Cell, the co-op is going to be about a 6 hour long prequel to the main game. I think thats a fantastic way to go.

^^ I wouldn't mind that so much, but I do hate it when it just feels like an add on rather than a main component. Glad you agree with me about co op though lol.

My list at the moment of games that would be awesome as Co-Op and could work are Mass Effect, Call of Duty MW (Spec Ops totally doesnt count lol) Fallout (there'd need to be a vats revision, obviously) and my top, one absolute dream choice, but will never happen, is uncharted... I mean, just imagine how awesome it would be to have someone play as sully or Elena... awww mannnnn.

Yea i know what ya mean. In Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory there was one mission during the SP campaign where Sam had to interact via radio with another unit in the area, well in the co-op you actually got to play as that other unit. So if Dead Space 2 did something like that, i think it would be really cool.

Nice screens, the suit definitely looks better in game. I'm still finding mixed feeling on the 'take charge' attitude deal.

Me too. The thing I loved about Dead Space, was the feeling that I never had any power and had to overcome it, I liked having scant resources and having to use my brain and stratagize on how to go about taking down enemies. That was what made the original Resident Evil so awesome.

But to me I'm so tired of this and I hope developers are hearing this, I'm tired of this "dumbing down" of games. Trying to reach a more broad audience they alienate gamers. I'm tired of these small campaigns, and easy way to go about things just in the name of trying to get more people to play. IMO it really does not work, they just think it does. Now that Dead Space has a following, the sequel I think no matter what would have been bigger, and now that they are saying "we will make it less scary" and pretty much with the combat saying "we'll make it easier for ya" I hate that. Games are suppose to be cerebral, and challenging, that is their point. Stop trying to "Wii" everything and make it accessible to the non-gamer, or the average gamer.

Totally agree.

I appreciate that they're trying to create a more rounded experience this time. But in my opinion being able to gun down every enemy with ease kind of defeats the purpose of a horror game. You're supposed to dread every encounter because it might be your last. You're supposed to be on your last mag, praying there will be another in the next room. You're supposed to feel vulnerable.

Alien would not be scary if Ripley could just pull out a gun and blast the creature.

And i dont think the devs are going to have Isaac turn into a Terminator, i just think they are going to show that he is no longer new to the necromorph threat. The guy knows how to deal with the necromorphs now and that should be incorporated into the game. As i said before, Isaac shouldnt be sitting on the Sprawl, watching the necromorph outbreak and think to himself, "oh my god, what is going on, iv never seen these things before". As far as we know Isaac is now the galaxies premier necromorph expert by having survived an onslaught from the creatures. A standard necromorph should no longer pose much of a threat to Isaac, he knows what he's dealing with. I think Visceral games realizes this and are developing accordingly.

I don't think it's going to be like RE 5... From the looks of the article, they just wanted to have more areas where there is room to breath, which isn't a bad thing... You need that in the horror genre, whether film or game, so you can lull players into a sense of security and then scare the s**t out of them all over again.

I don't think this game is going to be any less terrifying.. The bit about how Isaac has still lost his grip on reality looks really promising, like we might have some awesome F.E.A.R. style hallucinations...

I think the 'take charge' attitude is more towards just basic necromorpphs, and they're going to rely on new types of creatures for new fears. I find, even when playing Dead Space 1 on hard, the basic necromorphs don't feel as much of a threat just because you know there are scarier enemies out there, and you know the strategy to take them out.

Yea id have to agree.

I hope they don't make the game too easy, I personally loved the difficulty level of the first, it was totally in the sweet spot for me so I'm a bit wary on that account.

Like the idea of Isaac speaking and being more active.

I don't think they're trying to "dumb down" Dead Space 2, but simply make it better with proper pacing. Alien would get old after a while if the Xenomorph kept jumping out of vents and being the focus every five minutes. They spaced that out with scenes of dialogue and discussing what to do. In a game that would obviously get old, so the developers are going the route of Aliens and giving the player some scenes where they can just unload their ammo on a horde of Necros before getting back to the horrifying moments that the Dead Space is famous for. I think it will work out fine, since it was difficult to stay devoted to the first game for extended periods of time due to how intense every scene overloaded my senses and I could have used some moments where I could just relieve the stress by destroying an entire wave of Necros.

As for the combat, they're trying to make it more streamlined for the player to use since they don't believe in creating suspense by having flawed controls. Dead Space had great controls, but they could use some tweaking here and there, which is what they're doing. I like where the team is going for this sequel and I think it will turn out fine. The only thing I'm not a fan of right now is the look of the suit. I prefer the original Dead Space suits at the moment.

Finally beat the first game this weekend and am running through to get maxed out then onto Impossible difficulty. I'm really looking forward to Dead Space 2 now.

Man, it still annoys me that Dead Space had no New Game +. Such an oversight.

Considering how that's the point of these game, at least in theory, I think that would be a good thing more than a negative. I don't know how much I like the idea of going space Rambo and annihilating waves of Necros in certain sections.
