Because I believe the Anime DVD is a prequel to the game.

Witht hrcomic being a prequel to the dvd as well.

Yeah, pretty good movie. I like it. Nice way to lead into the game too.

Here's a question. Is it the same story as the comics that they released? Cause I have those on my xbox right now and am waiting till after the game to watch them (I don't want spoilers), and was wondering if this is the same thing, just done with full animation. And if it's not the same story, does it contradict the comics, or mesh well with them?

I think the comics are even earlier, or at least tell the story on the planet. Anyway I just watched it. If you bought into the Dead Space universe (like I did), and you can stomach a load of horrifically cheesy one-liners from the cardboard thin cast (especially the main character), then go ahead and watch/buy. It's interesting to see how the incident came to happen exactlty, and its cool to see a few scenes that were in Isaac's video and audio logs actually played out. There's a lot of "laugh at" gore, but nothing scary, the film doesn't even have any real jumps.

Something's up with the creators though, there's a scene in a shower with a naked fat man being chased by the necromorphs, you see his schlong and everything... its not nice.

just download it. it's cool if you want a quick lead in to the game, but it's nothing to really get all that excited about.

Yeah, I saw it too. I thought the movie was actually pretty good. Good lead into the game.
