Action-Adventure Death Stranding

I hope this film is more engaging than the game itself.

I spent dozens of hours playing the game at the height of the pandemic (2021) and the story was just ??? to me.

I think Hideo is pretty much aiming for "???" for his "stories". :beaming:

I was completely at lost with the story of the game. I spent most of my time hiking/trekking delivering stuffs and collecting materials so I could build bridges and it was a bit draining. So I was hoping the story would make up for it. But I didn't understand anything watching those long cutscenes.

A24 doing it could at least make it look authentic and suitably weird and trippy. I don't know if this will be good, but maybe it will at least be memorable.

Also, here we are all these years later, and still no MGS movie.

I know A24 is trying to venture more into ”big budget” and if Civil War has a reported $75M price tag, I expect this to be around that or more. However, unlike Civil War, this seems much harder to market especially if they try to remain as true as possible to the game.

As someone who enjoyed the original game, I'm really curious as to how this'll play out, though I still want that Metal Gear Solid movie.

On a related note, I actually met Norman Reedus 2 years ago at a book signing (really cool, casually friendly guy) and when I complemented him on his performance as Sam, he actually mentioned the sequel was currently being worked on! And this was 7 months before the reveal at the Game Awards!

Good for him! This might give a chance for A24 to increase the scale of their films even further while still maintain a certain quality to it. I trust this studio more than most to be able to do so.

When this movie opens as huge as A Minecraft Movie...:o

About that. I have no interest in seeing Minecraft and I doubt it’s good but given the game’s popularity I can understand why they made a movie.

But is this game really something that people want to see adapted? I guess it sold fairly well but all I ever hear people say about it is that the story is pretty much incomprehensible and it’s not that enjoyable to play. I don’t know. I avoid anything with Reedus in it like the plague so I doubt I’ll ever play it. But with video game adaptations specifically, it seems like they have to be really popular to justify a film adaptation (and you often have to strike while that iron is very hot before people move on to the next thing). So I guess I’m just wondering if anyone is really out there clamoring for this thing to happen besides Kojima himself.

Very curious to see how they distill this down into a digestible two-hour movie. Perhaps I've gotten a bit slower with age, but the mythology and lore in this game is a lot to unpack.

Geoff Keighley.

The last AQP movie was really good. Not started the first game yet but this seems right up Sarnowski’s alley.
