Sci-Fi Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Three

Like the miniseries.

I still assume they're born when this story starts. They seem to be skipping the original Leto II and I get the feeling one of the reasons Chani is upset and riding off into the desert is because she's pregnant at the end of Part 2. Though I prefer that did not skip Leto II.

Time will need to pass for the story this time. I do not think they can just pick it up where they left off or a few weeks later.

The book jumped forward 12 years, and I think the movie will have to jump forward even more than that unless they're keeping Paul's sister a baby. So unless the twins are going to be kid/teenager age, I can't see that being the direction. For Chani to be pregnant with them, even at early stages, then they'd end up nearly same age as Alia. I don't know Brooke's age, but Nakoa Wolf-Mamoa I see is 16. Not sure that he and Anya would look about same age.

I know they have to jump on this when the going gets going, but it’s too bad we don’t get to see an actual middle-aged Timothy Chalamet playing Paul.

I’m sure Villeneuve has his tricks to age them all up by a decade though.

The twins look terrific, believable as Paul(Chaletmet) & Chani(Zendaya) kids, though unless it's a flash forward or a prescience "vision" of the future, there is a surprising time jump forward for Dune Messiah, where I believe they were for the most, still infants? To Children of Dune.
Not sure how big a role these two will play, or if they are being used as somewhat visual stand-ins for what is to come?
Besides Paul's "visions" of the future, how far are they dipping into the actual Children of Dune?
By their age, does whoever directs the inevitable Children of Dune, already have their lead cast too.?

I haven't read the book and have no idea what Denis wants to do, so honest question. Is it likely they have such a minor role in the film and yet being the second batch of names being dropped after Pattinson's?

Yes. Dune Messiah the book takes place 12 years after Dune. I think in movie world we may actually see that being closer to 20 because in the book, Alia was a child by the end. Not still in the womb. And given plot points and such unless they're changed, and the fact Anya is in the role, Alia has to be around adult age. There will be a time jump regardless

A lot of people like Zendaya were cast in Dune knowing they would not be in the 1st one a lot but be huge players in part 2, and same for Pugh who yes was in a fair amount of Part 2, but she is much more important in Messiah.

But just look at how much Anya is in Dune Part 2. And we knew she was in it way before movie came out and was made. So easily can be same story here. But, if they have huge roles, then it would seem Messiah and Children of Dune are being merged a bit. We shall see either way

Forgot there was a separate thread for Messiah. Thanks!! ^_^

One of them will move. I am personally more excited for Dune Messiah
I honestly can't see how anyone could not be? You have the final chapter of an award winning, prestige adaptation some of the greatest sci-fi literature in history versus the fifth Avengers movie from a studio that has become very inconsistent at best.

Oh wow, they’re already ready to roll?

Have Pattinson and Ferguson been officially confirmed?

Pattinson def was. Ferguson I cannot remember if she was or nor.
Hmm I remember there was just interest from the studio for him to play the villain but I couldn't find anything after that. Hopefully he's in.

I dont think outlets posted a confirmed article or anything, but all the big outlets when they talk about the movie have him in the list. So that's pretty official.

Does this mean it will be shot on IMAX 70mm film instead of IMAX digital cameras? I knew he picked Linus Sandgren for a reason. :mrk:

I called this being called Dune Part 3 like, a year ago. What do I win? :o

Booooo.

What happened to this quote Denis about this having its own identity?

It was really a pair of movies that will be the adaptation of the first book. That’s done and that’s finished. If I do a third one, which is in the writing process, it’s not like a trilogy. It’s strange to say that, but if I go back there, it’s to do something that feels different and has its own identity.”

I am fine with it. Dune Messiah sort of is the ending of Dune in many ways. Many have said it feels less sequel and more epilogue to me many times before. I heard many moons ago (I dont know from where or if it was true or not) that they were considering on calling Dune Part 2 a more proper title like Dune Prophet at one point, and I would have preferred it personally if it was Dune, Dune Prophet or whatever, and Dune Messiah. But since they called the last one Dune Part 2, calling this Dune Part 3 makes a certain amount of sense to me

Part Two made sense because it was from the same book.

I agree 100% percent with @DarkKnight88. Villeneuve clearly stated that he wanted this to be its own thing and for audience not to think of it as a trilogy. In fact he seemed kind of irritated with people who consider it as such.

So while not a really big deal, it feels like a studio mandate rather than an artistic choice, which, yeah, kind of sucks.

Yeah, I was kinda surprised when it started being referred to as Dune Messiah. Part 3 is an easier sell. Going though the audio books rn, it's also Children that really feels like the start of the next stories.

That is how I see it as well. Children of Dune can be it's own Saga unto itself. Even follow same formula if you want to do Children of Dune as 3 parts and God Emperor as Children of Dune Part 3.
