Deadline is reporting that Andy and Lana Wachowski, who are currently filming Cloud Atlas with co-helmer Tom Tykwer, will next turn their attention to Jupiter Ascending.

The site says that it will be the duo's first major sci-fi action film since "The Matrix" trilogy, which earned $1.6 billion worldwide. There are no details known about the Warner Bros. Pictures film other than that it is an original creation by the Wachowskis. The studio is currently discussion which star to lead the cast.

Deadline notes that the Wachowskis had trouble setting up their hard R-rated drama about a gay relationship between a U.S. soldier and an Iraqi called Cobalt Neural 9.

Can't wait to find out more.

I thought Cloud Atlas and their Gay Iraqi film already have sci-fi elements.

What happened to that futuristic Robin Hood they were doing with Will Smith?

Cloud atlas has some future post apocalyptic elements in one of its stories around stories.

However, good question, whatever happened to that "gay Iraqi" film they were working on?

They never left sci-fi! Bound is the only non sci-fi film they've directed.

Either way, I'm in. I love all their sheeit.

This looks interesting.I'll see this movie when it comes out.

No one wanted to fund that movie...

From what I remember that "gay Iraqi" film had an incredibly stupid plot, so I'm glad it didn't go anywhere. I'm sure they have some more good movies in them, but it wasn't going to be that one.

This movie intrigues me because all we know so far is that it's going to be a sci-fi film. I look forward to finding more about it & eventually seeing this at the movies.

Jesus. Larry Wachowski just does not make an attractive woman, does he?

No, but he couldn't possibly look worse. :o

I'd rather them fix that god awful last Matrix film somehow :'(

They're shopping the project to A-list leading men. My money is on Tom Cruise. That man has worked with almost every major director. Not to mention he'd think it's a film based on real life events. :hehe:

Is Natalie Portman teaming up with the Wachowskis again for 'Jupiter Ascending'?

Actress reportedly 'seriously weighing' taking on a role in new sci-fi flick

Natalie Portman took some well-deserved time off after winning her Best Actress Oscar for "Black Swan" last year (she also had this thing called, you know, a baby, which is just like a grown-up person except smaller and cuter), but if a somewhat nebulous story posted in the Los Angeles Times' The Envelope this evening is to be believed, the actress may soon be getting back on Hollywood's casting radar for a secretive sci-fi film titled "Jupiter Ascending" that's being written by "The Matrix" filmmakers Lana and Andy Wachowski.
The project, set up at the siblings' longtime home Warner Bros., looks to be the Wachowskis' next film after they finish post-production on "Cloud Atlas", an adaptation of David Mitchell's portmanteau-style sci-fi novel that they co-directed with "Run Lola Run" helmer Tom Twyker. Starring Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Hugh Grant and Jim Broadbent, among others, "Atlas" is expected to see release this fall, meaning the Wachowskis could realistically begin production on "Jupiter" by then.

And while it's worth stressing that Portman hasn't yet signed on to the project (particularly given the relative sketchiness of the Times story), the anonymous source cited does indicate that the actress is "seriously weighing" taking the role on.
Of course, this wouldn't be Portman's first collaboration with the Wachowskis; in 2006 the "Thor" actress starred in the siblings' adaptation of Alan Moore's graphic novel "V for Vendetta", which they wrote and produced before bringing James McTeigue in to direct. That film proved a minor box-office hit (it grossed around $130 million worldwide) and garnered generally positive reviews, so the prospect of the trio teaming up again certainly makes sense. Still, there's really no telling at this point how real the rumor is.
It should be noted, too, that if "Thor 2" ends up happening with the actress (who apparently wasn't happy about Patty Jenkins' reported firing from the superhero sequel), that could also complicate matters.
In any case, stay tuned...

Keeping an eye out for this. The title itself is cool enough.

So I was confused with the directing duo. I originally thought they were called the Wachowski Brothers. Then I saw that picture of them on set of Cloud Atlas and was thinking, "Where is the other brother and why is there a woman sitting next to him? Is she his sister and I was wrong about the brothers thing?"

Then they mentioned Lana and I thought it was some nickname but the fact it was feminine was odd.

Then to wikipedia...

Oh.

I love sci-fi....but i'm still hoping for more space-adventure sci-fi...I know, I doubt i'll ever see anything like that again. Everyone wants explosions.

You might want to check out Prometheus and Star Trek 2 when they come out

Oh.

Not a pretty sight, is it? :o

Mark to read:

I wonder what it will be about. The title gives hints about a mystery story. I get to think about 2010 (the film, you know).
But I guess there will be lots of over-the-top action in it. It's Wachowski, after all.

The Wachowskis stopped being relevant in like 2003 when Matrix Reloaded came out.

Speed Racer and Ninja Assassin were terrible.
