From Shang-Chi to the Avengers, and now Spider-Man!
Poor Shang-Chi 2... that movie can't catch its moment!
The man is willing to make any movie that’s not Shang-Chi 2.
It isn't. But surely, if he really wanted to direct Shang-Chi 2 asap, he won't let other opportunities get in the way. The only good news is he's still under Disney's paycheck, compare to a director going to a different franchise. So maybe one day, if someone doesn't take over, he could direct the next Shang-Chi.I don't think that is his call.
Should that tell people something. The man is willing to make any movie that’s not Shang-Chi 2.
That the rumours of Simu Liu being an annoying little **** are true and Cretton just can’t stand to work with him again?Should that tell people something.![]()

‘Spider-Man Brand New Day’s Story and Punisher’s Role in the Film Revealed by Kevin Feige
Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige confirms Spider-Man: Brand New Day will focus on Tom Holland's Spider-Man tackling street-level crime.collider.com
“I think there’s a promise at the end of No Way Home, that for as sad as it is that Peter is forgotten by everyone in his life, we are seeing for the first time in the Tom Holland Spider-Man stories him being a proper Spider-Man. Him being by himself, dedicated to saving the city, and dealing with — for lack of better terms — street-level crime, as opposed to world-ending events.” “So when you do that, you say, okay, who are the other street-level characters that we’ve never seen him interact with? And of course, I love that The Punisher started in a Spider-Man comic. That great cover... I don’t want to say too much, but Destin — I will say too much — Destin is doing an amazing job right now on that movie, which starts shooting very soon. And he’s got eight or nine comic covers up on his wall in his art department that he is bringing to life in this movie, which is super cool.”
So Destin's assistant posted this earlier today. Obviously it could mean nothing but Boomerang and Tarantula were villains mentioned in that merchandise conference leak from a few months back. I didn't realize Tarantula was also reported but there was apparently there was another post on reddit back then about it.
“I’m drawn to stories about people who are forgotten, or on the outside, or looked down on by society,” he said. “Watching them figure out how to make sense of the world despite that and find self-worth, those are the types of the stories that I seem to be drawn to.”
His fixation on the “forgotten people” and their story is intertwined with the plot of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Drawing a parallel with the film, there’s actually a whole community of people isolated from society who end up being the most influential force in saving the world from destruction.
The stories that have been silenced and forgotten are the ones that leave the most influential impression on us, both in movies and real life.
Cretton sees his film-making career not only as a job but also a creative place to sojourn within during personal exploration and refinement. He’s said in interviews that he approaches the undertaking of directing by determining how the particular film or story can help him become a better person. It’s as if his career fluidly ebbs and flows between a space of personal growth and cinematic creativity. To Cretton, they go hand in hand.
