Was she suppose to be like Renee Montoya? why didn't they just use Renee instead of creating anther similar character...

because Montoya is a good cop and in the movie Ramirez is a bad cop.
I guess they are just trying to keep everything "politcally" correct!

She seemed to be based on Montoya, but I suppose some fans would have been angry had Montoya been crooked, so they altered it a bit and came up with Ramirez.

I was thinking the same thing for 2/3 of the movie. Then it was revealed that Ramirez was a dirty cop, which goes completely against Montoya's character. So, I think it's pretty obvious why she wasn't Montoya.

No, because all Hispanic detectives in Gotham are named Montoya by default.

I love that scene with Mistah J.

"I HATED my father."

Lol.

I remember watching Gotham Knight wondering why the hell they used Ramirez instead of Montoya until watching the Dark Knight. It would be completely disrespectful to Montoya's character if they made her a crooked cop so they used Ramirez instead. That's the impression I got.

I think Detective Stephens should have been Bullock.

I didn't like Ramirez.

But that's just me.

I would love it if now that Gordon is Commissioner he employs cops that he screens and trusts, and hand picks: Montoya and Bullock being two of them. Maybe a Detective Allen, too.

Crispus Allen alredy showed up in ''Batman: Gotham Knight'' and quit the Major Crimes Unity.

It's because she sold out Harvey, something Renee would never do.

I remember a few months ago there was an interview with Nolan where he addressed this, about why he chose not to use Montoya. He said "Once you see the movie, you'll understand why we created an original character."

I assumed that she would die in the movie, and Nolan didn't want to kill Montoya. Turns out, he didn't want to turn Montoya into a sellout.

It was a good call.

Id thought that she was a Joker accomplace like Harley Quinn. But sadly,i was wrong...

I think they clearly intended the cop in the interrogation room with Joker to be a play on Bullock.

I'm glad they didn't make her Montoya like everyone else since she turned out to be corrupt.

The one thing I'm wondering is if anyone else was annoyed by some of her scenes like I was?

I know this will sound like over reacting but frankly I could not stand the way she does that look to the side when she tells Gordon in their first scene that her Mom is back in the hospital. It's worse than the prolonged shot of her after she helps Dent get in the car with Wuertz(sp?).

Something about it just annoyed me to no end. It was overacting for a quick scene or two that should have come off as subtle but was over the top and cheesy on a level that got under my skin.

There's really no reason there couldn't have been good cops and corrupt cops in Gordon's unit. Montoya, Bullock and a few others.

I thought those scenes were subtle. Its not like she spelled it out for us or anything. "Hey my moms in the hospital so if mobsters offered me money i'd totally take it! Wah!"

I thought it was pretty ridiculous that they bothered to justify why she was corrupt, for such a small, more or less meaningless character.

"Oh uh...a relative is sick (tear)".
