I think you hit your point the way you were trying to make it most here. So I think it's down to semantics. What you call tough, I call confidence.
But I can understand that you want him to have, for lack of a better term, the eye of the tiger.
That we can agree on. I just think that from his past work, and the physical commitment he'd give to the role, that Efron could bring that.
I also think that his time working with Seth Rogan has helped him shed his "perfect, Disney child star" image and has opened his audience to different groups.

All valid, but a few counterpoints.
Have we SEEN Efron play tough? It's not that he tries and fails miserably, he just doesn't play those characters. A lot of people thought Matt Damon being in an action movie was ridiculous pre-Bourne.
Mark Wahlberg literally was an underwear model.
And wouldn't Bruce Wayne himself be someone that people in Gotham would say "that pretty boy spoiled socialite as Batman? NEVER. Looks can be deceiving.
Jake would be great imo

Jake probably deserves to be someone other than a former sidekick. I think he'd be a villain if they ever get him.
I meant mid 40s. He still has to be a middle aged actor. How many actors can you list that could fit that role?
TBH the Dick Grayson Nightwing skin in Injustice did look vaguely based on O'Donnell...

And I don't think the terribleness of that Robin is O'Donnell's fault. The actor himself worked with what he was given, I think. The costume? Awful. Dialogue? Pretty bad. But O'Donnell himself would've been a great Robin with a proper script and costume (although he's obviously too old now so my post above was meant to be tongue-in-cheek).
I doubt that, since he's a terrible actor. It was never going to work out.TBH the Dick Grayson Nightwing skin in Injustice did look vaguely based on O'Donnell...

For replacing Affleck? Evans is not a good enough actor, and like Bomer he's too young in my opinion. Bomer looks too much like a pretty boy. If this was 10 years ago Bomer would have been a good Nightwing.I wouldnt mind Matt Bomer or Luke Evans.
See High Rise plz, thank you.For replacing Affleck? Evans is not a good enough actor
See High Rise plz, thank you.
I'm not crazy about Efron, but damn if he is not the only living person that looks exactly like Dick Grayson from the comics. It's eerie.
Usually when people think "inspired" casting, it's someone who looks against type.
In this case, it's a guy who looks exactly like the character in the comics, but an actor that fans don't believe could pull it off.
I've seen more than enough from him to know that he would absolutely nail the character.
He's never not had great chemistry with an actor in his films (since becoming an adult actor). And I feel like he'd play great off of a grizzled, older Ben Affleck/Bruce Wayne.
He has the charm and sense of humor to make Dick Grayson cocky but likable.
He has the physique ... more than any other actor of his generation. Period.
He's the perfect age to play the character long term.
He's a fan the comic book world and has voiced on several occasions that he'd love to play a superhero.
Just give him the mask and escrima sticks already.
