Dick Grayson Casting Thread

Is that the guy from the "Walking Dead"? The one who already encountered the bat?

I could easily see Ezra as Dick as he has the androgynous sex appeal that Grayson has, he could also really nail his upbeat quippy personality.

While there is definitely certain energy to him, it doesn't strike me as a kind of upbeat personality that befits Dick Grayson. As for Grayson's sex appeal, I never saw it as androgynous in any way. Unless you refer to the fact that artists tend to give him a Psylocke treatment. :p

It needn't be an origin film, although I would want flashbacks. The way I see it, it could go two ways, he's been Nightwing for a long time and we are just popping into his story and we’d get flashbacks to when he was younger, or he’s been retired as Nightwing for a while as a result of Batman’s fall after recognizing the anger in himself that could drive him down Batman’s path, so he’s been operating as a cop for the years inbetween but a recent case necessitated the need to readopt the persona once more, I’d prefer the first option but the second would be fine, either way flashbacks would be present to illuminate his past with Batman and his falling out with him after Bruce began escalating after Jason’s death.

Also a 45+ year old Bruce necessitates an older Dick so he’d have to be around 30.

That all sounds really complicated. Pulling off flashbacks well isn't an easy task. So far the DCEU has been very underwhelming and poor with how they've handled flashbacks. I do think the easier route is just making this film a straight 'Robin to Nightwing' origins tale.

The journey of the boy in the shadow of Batman, to him becoming his own man. That kind of coming of age story would be a good draw for general audiences to connect to.

I actually thought MOS integrated flashbacks really well. We can argue whether the content of the flashbacks were quality, but they were very organic in the storytelling.

Agreed.

I could see Logan Lerman in the part. He's a good actor and I could totally see him as the light hearted counter weight to Affleck's Batman . He's 25 and 5'9 so he's young enough to have been Robin since 2005 .

Oh for the love of backstreet no!

Anyway is Nightwings outfit going to be black and blue or black and red?

Jason Alexander would make a good Penguin.

Anyway, why not? He's the age I'd expect Nightwing to be (late twenties, early thirties), he's quite likable, and I think he'd offer a lot to the role. I wouldn't expect him to take up the mantle of Batman or anything but he'd be quite good otherwise.

Correct, on both accounts. :oldrazz:

I really have no idea who they would even consider casting.

Because they aren't going to hire a 2nd rate TV actor to play the role. They will be looking for a future star for the part.

from all suggestions in this thread I've seen, Zack Efron is the best one imo, he's a charismatic person, a good actor and he looks the part. The only situation I wouldn't be ok with Zack in the role is if the idea is to make Dick the new Batman after Bruce

Aaron Taylor Johnson or Zack Efron seem to be the best choices at the moment. Gotta say, years back I wasn't a fan of teeny bopper Efron, but the guy has won me over in recent years. He's got the looks, charm, and comedic chops to play Dick perfectly.

If he'd do it, it has to be Taron Edgerton for me.

Oh man he'd be awesome, such a fantastic actor. Watched Eddie the Eagle a few weeks back and the guy just transformed into the role. To get him would be a major coup.

Out of the popular options right now, I'd say Aaron Taylor-Johnson or Zac Efron (I've warmed up to him) for Dick, and Taron Egerton for Jason Todd (even tho he's older than Johnson, but oh well).

Thanks for posting.

It's nice to read what he thinks of the character, I'd ceainly he certainly understands Dick Grayson. Should bode well

No problemo!

My vote is for Tyler Hoechlin. The guy is a good actor and played a very convincing Superman/Clark Kent on Supergirl. While I was hoping for a spin off for Supes that has pretty much been shot down but since the DCtv and DCEU are not connected there shouldn't be a problem for him jumping to Nightwing . Rough done it why can't Tyler

Finn Wittrock is my pick. He's the right age and has the build and look. And is talented enough to be grayson.

I think Wittrock is the spitting image of nightwing and may have more natural charisma than hammer.
