I missed it? does anyone know ? I know that had the ufc president talking.

I didn't catch that, but I'm interested. :)

UFC on Espn?

said something about a major fight or something like that

That would be great if the next UFC PPV was on Espn.

Did Spike TV lose their rights to UFC? Oh, The Contender is back. On ESPN tomorrow night at 10 pm.

I doubt they lost the rights, but whatever Dana said on Espn was supposedly major. I wish I wouldve caught it.

but most of us that saw ufc 61 already knew that

That was supposed to be the BIG news?
Dana would announce that on ESPN?

 :( :ghost: :down

oooppps...... somebody just told me that it was now officially confirmed as it wasn't before.

We all knew Joker was going to be the villain in the next Batman movie before it was confirmed by Michael Caine.
This news sucks. :down :(

what thats bull**** , I wasted a thread on this dammit :(

I'm mad now.
I thought it wouldve been something great.

Well, check the net over the next day or two but that's what I was just told earlier.

Matt Hughes is also supposed to be fighting George St. Pierre in a rematch. Not sure if you guys are aware of that.

For real? When? OMG! I've been waiting for this rematch!! Do you think GSP can beat Hughes in the rematch? This will be one awesome match!

The Hughes/St. Pierre match is September 23 in Anaheim. It should be a pretty good rematch. That Hughes is a beast.

Didn't think I'd be saying it, but I want another Ortiz/Shamrock match.
Shamrock got screwed last time and everybody knew it.

Hallelujah!! About time!! I am a fan of both but I think Hughes will win again. That man seems unstoppable.

The match did get called way too early. I doubt that either was satisfied with the outcome. Seeing as how they can't stand each other, I think there's a pretty good chance of a rematch.

I don't want to see Shamrock get is ass kicked again. It's getting old.

Actually, I want to see it because I hate Tito. He needs to get his ass handed to him.

Shamrock isn't any better than Tito, imo. I expect more from Shamrock since he's a vet and all but he disappoints me.

Wanting Tito to get his ass handed to him is the #1 reason why you shouldn't at all want to see another rematch. Their first fight was lopsided, and their second fight was lopsided. No matter what you think of Herb Dean's call--- and the man is the best in the business bar none--- Shamrock was completely ineffective while Tito was in his guard, aside from thinking about an arm bar then abandoning the maneuver, he did nothing except for flop around uselessly and fail to do a goddamn thing to either tie Tito up, or even cover up his own face. His hands were at his shoulders. His guard was pretty much nonexistent, as he did nothing to try to control Tito's hips, work for a sweep, a submission, or even just close the guard and just HOLD ON. An unused guard is not a guard at all. Ortiz might as well have been mounted on him. And yes, five unanswered, undefended elbows in quick succession while Ken was laying on his back, apparently taking a nap, does indeed qualify as a fighter not intelligently defending himself. No more rematches: the UFC 61 rematch between the two was completely unnecessary, and anything more would be a complete waste of everyone's time.
If you want to see Tito get beaten, hope for a match with Babalu or a rematch with Liddell or Silva (who supposedly will fight 3 bouts in the UFC... or so Dana White said). Those are the only guys that could possibly be favourites over Tito in the organization, although I could see Jason Lambert having a chance to make a good fight of it, and perhaps even winning over Ortiz. Ortiz-Shamrock 3 could officially beat out Sakuraba-Silva 3 as the most pointless fight in the history of MMA.

That having been said, the "big announcement", in fact, was only a confirmation of when and where Hughes vs. St. Pierre 2 would take place. It's hardly the big deal they were selling it as. The fight was announced quite some time ago, but Hughes had his mismatch with Royce to walk through and Georges needed to film TUF 4 in the meantime. Don't get me wrong, this fight is a huge deal, and has all the makings of one of the best fights the UFC's had in a long time... but most fans already knew this was going to happen.

Anyway, in other news that's been up for a while, in case you missed it, Babalu Sobral vs. Chuck Liddell is taking place on August 26th, and the co-main event that night is the rematch between Forrest Griffin and Stephan Bonnar (and yes, this will mean that the six co-main events in UFC's 61-63 will have featured at least five rematches: fun). Also, Ultimate Fight Night's taking place on August 17th, and the main event is set to be Diego Sanchez vs. Karo Parisyan, probably grooming the next challenger at welterweight after Hughes and St. Pierre are done with eachother.

EDIT: Oh, and just for the record, to answer DBella's question, I'm of the opinion that yes indeed, GSP can whup Hughes. That's not to say he will, but considering the way he tossed around Frank Trigg and Sean Sherk, two fighters whose wrestling was nearly equal to Hughes's in their respective matches with him, each of whom took Hughes down and had him in trouble at times (a feat they never came close to managing against St. Pierre, although I do understand Trigg may not have been at 100% against Georges: for clarification, I'm talking about Trigg's first bout with Hughes... the one without the groin strike), I'm fairly confident that "Rush" has a damn good chance of taking home the belt.
