whats gonna happen to UFC and MMA as a whole is what always does when they go after the 20 something target market that have no personal connection, no opinions of their own. They are like willows in the wind, they bend to whatever is currently popular, so they will move on to the next fad.... as I said, they cannot form their own opinions on anything!.......

it will happen....happened to Wrestling which was so hot from 96-2001 that every network wanted wrestling, every kid had Austin 3:16 shirts..that faded...............happening now since kids latched onto the Poker craze...every Network has some sort of poker show, stories and news pieces about kids having "poker parties"...starting to fade......................Having a young audience is more of a curse than a blessing, judging by history.

Just a year or two ago UFC was averaging 60,000 buys....................now that its a fad, everything is good...but not if...................but when all the casual fans move onto something else? ! ..........................will MMA be able to survive since basically MMA is just UFC...all the IFLs. this MMA fad has been around for a little over 20 years. BIG DEAL! doesnt have the history of a Boxing, thats been around for over 100 years :wow:and can survive anything. When will the popularity end? Will anyone besides the hardcore fans be around in a couple years?

I am calling it now. Its going to happen. I see nothing to indicate this has any staying power. Mark my words.

FAD!

So how about that Transformers 3 movie coming out tomorrow? I think it's going to break some records, especially with it being 3D.

Typical 20 something reaction. Cant formulate an opinion other than snaky remarks.

Given the fact that the population is aging (baby boomers form the largest demographic). MMA is doomed.

I don't see it fading anytime soon. There are to many fans and a lot of young teenagers that are really into it. So the sport will survive for a while. It is actually a rival of boxing right now and boxing isn't going anywhere anytime soon either. I think they will coexist for quite a while.

I dont know man. I disagree.

Yes, pro wrestling hype has declined some, but WWE and Impact wrestling are still drawing crowds and making plenty of money. I seem to remember pro wrestling being most popular in waves...for example, in the mid 80s, when Hogan was everyone's American Hero, it was doing really well. Then it faded until the mid 90s, when it got hot again, as you stated.
You are right, it draws the 18-34 male demographic and that obviously could cause a problem because those fans get bored with it, grow out of it or whatever else. BUT, sometime later, that next generation comes up and it gets hot again.

I think mixed martial arts bouts are here to stay. Will some of the "shine" wear off (like what has happened with poker) Probably so. BUT, there will be enough support to keep it going until it sparks up again.

Just my 2 cents.

What I was saying just explained better.:woot:

I just don't get why anybody would watch two sweaty men beat the crap out of each other or a handful of sweaty men wearing speedos fake beating the crap out of each other.

the same reason 22 people chase after a ball trying to hit it into nets, or 10 people chase after a ball to shoot into a basket, or 30 people run into each other chasing after an oval ball (rugby), etc. etc.

It is sport and for many it is entertaining.

I don't think it will fade either, though I wish it would. I prefer the technical aspects of boxing to the grappling and man-love of MMA.

Wrestling isn't a sport. It's a speedo soap opera.

I am sure MMA is entertaining to some but I don't care to watch one sweaty guy beat another sweaty guy senseless. I just don't get any enjoyment out of it and I don't understand why people would. If I am watching football and someone gets hurt...I don't stand up and cheer or throw my beer in the air. It's barbaric. I think NASCAR is dumb. I think televised golf is dumb. I think televised bowling is dumb. I am sure some people get entertainment out of it but that doesn't change what I think about those sports.

Sucks to be you.

Pro Wrestling is Sports Entertainment. It's never really been called a sport. All the other stuff is your opinion and you are entitled to it. But all those sports make $ hand over foot so apparently somebody likes them.

Oh they def. make money. I just don't see the point to them so I don't spend my money on them. If two bums fight on the street then cops arrest them. If two men fight in an arena in Las Vegas, they can be on a Wheaties box. I guess it plays to man's carnal lusts. Dog fighting is gross and disgusting but two men fighting is awesomez.

I believe UFC & MMA fighting will be around for a long time. It's entertainment & a lot of people like to watch 2 guys beat each other senseless. It will be around as long as people support it & remain interested.

"I guess" you have no clue what you're talking about. Like you said, you don't understand, so if you don't understand how can you even begin to form an legitimate opinion on something you don't understand?

LOL! Somebody got beat up, & the last thing he saw before blacking out was a MMA shirt. Now this little guy is all sad. Dry the tears little guy. It will be alright.

That's the thing about an opinion. It's yours and yours alone. You can't try and push it on people and try to put others down for not having your opinion. You don't spend $ on it then great. But don't put someone else down for feeling differently.

Typically speaking those two guys fighting in Vegas have been training for years and are very skilled.
The two bums fighting on the street likely have no training or skill.

It's not just about knockouts. Brazilian jiu-jitsu and wrestling are very much a part of MMA and take a LOT of skill and training to do well. For anyone who disagrees, I simply ask that you go train for ONE DAY at a jiu-jitsu gym. A good jiu-jitsu gym like a Gracie branded one. You will quickly see the talent needed to learn just that one art. Then combine that with boxing, muay thai, etc etc etc and you will realize it is a tough, violent sport, but it also is very skillful and you m ay find it more interesting to watch.

I certainly agree that it is not for everyone. Just like I dont understand the appeal of NASCAR ( to use an example posted above). But to offer the idea that MMA/UFC is no different that 2 bums fighting on the street is a little short sighted, imo.

I thought the WWE was going to be dead a long time ago, yet somehow they've managed to survive this long, given that there isn't really any competition out there to force them to be new and innovative like they were during the Monday Night War with WCW. But given how Vince McMahon is losing his rocker now and has considered his business to be an "action soap opera" as opposed to the previous "Sports Entertainment" tag, I think its safe to say that they are trying to adapt to new times.

Basically, if a lot of people are willing to pay to see it on a weekly basis, then its going to be kept around as long as poosible, and same goes for MMA and UFC. Many view it as a sport in the same way people view things like Bull-Fighting and Cock-Fights as a sport, and as long as they are not doing anything illegal and no one is getting killed, then its going to continue to stick around and draw those who want to see it.

I hope you can answer this question while avoiding taking any half-hearted jabs at how old you think I might be, or spontaneously breaking into the Batgirl theme song, but just how old are you?
