did anything make you not want to be a comic fan?

Then they will try to break you harder. :o

Agreed. Haters and trolls could never make me give up comics.

It goes for comics, movies, whatever.....I like what I like....and if someone else doesn't like it....tough for them.

I have never been remotely put off buying comics, but I have been put off superheroes, through horrible people making me lose faith in people in general. One night after being highly stressed out by said people, I ripped up a pile of superhero comics that were sitting next to my bed, as I just thought they were a lot of sh***.

That's the thing though, *no-one* is perfect, when people try to make out that someone is all good, is totally beyond reproach, and I have reason to believe otherwise, it doesn't mean I think they're evil, or I hate them, it just means I frickin think they have have had some dodgy things going on sometimes.
everyone has weak moments, esp under certain circumstances, don't frickin try to tell me otherwise, and don't try to make out I am some kind of 'hater', because it shows that I am the one who is making more of a fair and balanced judgement than you.

I couldn't care less what other people like, it's not tough for me. I'm not insecure.

Well, we all say that. Actions and words, man.

Are you talking to me? Well, sometimes your actions are withheld for health reasons, so when someone knows full well I am in ill health, and then accuses me of not acting, it just reveals to me that they are looking for an angle to try and defame my name.

A few years back Marvel had an Anime phase... that almost did it for. Especially when some of the colourists couldn't keep track of the characters either and mucked up the colours of two of the gals in a couple of frames of one of the comics because they had been drawn so much alike. It was awful, half the fun of the comics is supposed to be the fantastic art.

Seeing several members of the JSA idiotically killed in Zero Hour drove me to drop all DC titles for several years, but I continued to buy comics, just not DC Comics. A year or so later I dropped all Marvel titles, mostly due to low quality, but I continued to buy independent titles and Manga. I've been back reading DC for about 9 years now, however.

One More Day killed my love of comics. Then the price hikes and double shippings furthered that. I honestly don't WANT to buy comics anymore, or at least Marvel comics, but I just can't make myself stop. It's actually infuriating. It's sad that I get excited whenever I hear the company's sales are down or that titles get canceled. I shouldn't get excited by a company I used to love so much failing. I shouldn't hope for them to hit bankruptsy, but I do. While I love the characters, I can't stand Marvel as a company and wish them the worst... and I can't stand that I feel that way.

What got me to stop when I was younger was because I got sick of having to buy multiple comics for one storyline. Example, having to buy issues of Robin and not just Batman, but Batman, Detective Comics, Legends of the Dark Knight and so on.

I just said **** it and started buying tpbs. Much better that way.

That was why I kept buying Marvel and DC as long as I did, but when I realized that I wasn't going to be a famous and rich writer, I said the hell with it, my Action and Detective sets will never be complete anyway. And now they've been canceled and started over with new #1's anyway.

I used to be into comics at one point in my life but not as much anymore. I just sort of lost interest on my own. What I like about the Hype is that it's diversified. You could talk about tv shows and movies here that are not necessarily comic related. I still love superhero related stuff, I'm just not into the actual comic reading as much anymore.

Pretty much sums up my feelings, Prison Mike.

The only thing for me is that some super hero movies I tear apart because they werent loyal to the source material on the other hand my friends with a naive sense about comics enjoy those movies that I dont like.

It's funny because you come off as the arrogant critic you're disowning.
Then I came off the wrong way, I apologize. I would just rather not hear about the dark knight in every single comic book film article I read ya know. I'm sure youd feel the same way if people were constantly comparing films to iron man or captain america or something. Im just tired of people always trying to shove their belief that the dark knight is the greatest comic film that all others should be compared to down my throat. I actually love the films, just dont worship them. :woot:

I highly doubt ANYTHING could make me stop being a fan of comics.
Not so fond of the industry at times, tho.
I did, however COMPLETELY stop buying comics in the 90's.
Post X-Force Rob Liefeld/Clone Saga/Heroes Reborn Time Frame.
I remember the first book I picked up after my hiatus being issue 1 of Rising Stars.
I was happy that emphasis was being put on what writer was on the book, than what artist.
(of course that doesn't guarantee a good book) but I'll take stellar writing over stellar art any day.
(sometimes I'm fortunate enough to get both)
I've since gone and bought the few good books came out during those "dark ages"

This
I highly doubt ANYTHING could make me stop being a fan of comics.
but i have been on hiatus cause of as mentioned before
-Chicks- not like a babe could ever make me quit, but it takes money to take a babe out and it was either the further adventures of spider man or having some "Realllllllll Fun" and the "real Fun" won over!hehe

- Return of the Supermen- i got caught in that whole variant cover and spent tons on comics that i cant even give away!

- Anything Image- again i got caught up in that frenzy and now if i give em out at Halloween to kids! they will throw them back at me! you know kids are brighter than i was!

Heh. Preaching to the choir!
:)
I've cut back on comics purchases recently as well.
I deal mostly in trades now.
(I have a kid,so cash is preferably spent on her, and whenever I deploy, that kinda takes me out of the loop for a couple of months. But it's fun to play catch up!)

I still don't get the 'Dc or Marvel' thing, always baffled me, I always just went by which particular comic I liked to read, through a combination of the character, and what writers and artists were working on them. I never cared one way or another what company produced the comics.
Can someone explain that to me?

There are just some people out there that feel loyal to a certain company. It's the same way with people who buy cars. You have "Ford" people and "Chevy" people. "Honda" people. You could also say the same for video game systems. I know people who are "X-Box" and people who are "Playstation".

I was a Marvel zombie for many years just because I didn't know anything about the DC characters and they didn't interest me for a lot of years. Then in about '04 and '05 I started getting further into DC and I became very divided down the middle. Then as the years passed I became interested in a lot of Vertigo, Image, and Indie books. Now I'm more of an Image comics, Vertigo, Indie comics zombie than the "Big 2". I read like 3 Marvel comics now.

And that brings me to Marvel pushing away myself and a lot of other fans. They overprice their comics. They have started double shipping. They have that STUPID .1 thing with their comics. It's become too expensive to follow Marvel comics and much easier to find other comics out there that are not only cheaper but much better in the quality of storytelling.

The price, the lack of space, the constant regression of characters, particularly Grayson my favourite character, and repeating storylines.

Yep. Back in the day I was a hardcore Sega guy. I'm also more of a DC fan than a Marvel fan, but greatness is greatness and Jack Kirby, who basically made Marvel, is far and away the greatest creator and artist in the history of comics, and the next guy (Will Eisner, IMO) isn't even close.

I hope to go to comic book hell. That's where you must read the same issue Richie Rich over and over until your eyes bleed.
