Feel like they want to turn the next Die Hard movie into Batman Begins. Poor strategy.

The coolest way they could do this is if they went the route of the first season of True Detective.

There are two John McClanes, the older one played by Bruce Willis (in the present day), and then a younger actor playing McClane in the 1970's. McClane in the 70's is a new rookie detective trying to solve his first huge case... but he never solves it. Intercut this with modern-day McClane still trying to solve it, thinking back on his earlier years when getting the initial leads and evidence, remembering suspects, etc.

If that's what they're thinking, I'm 100% for it and I think it's an amazing idea.

Look guys, it's Die Hard. It's Bruce Willis kicking ass. Just be happy we're still getting these movies at all, because it's only a fragile amount of time before we won't have Schwarzenegger, Stallone, Willis... Enjoy it! I for one welcome all this stuff with open arms. For me, these guys are the classic action stars, along with Mel Gibson and Van Damme. They're like the Bela Lugosi, Vincent Price, and Boris Karloff of the Action Genre. Let them ham it up in a cheesy bad movie or two. Or three. Or ten.

I have no idea why Die Hard 4 is not seen as a bad film to most people. There are only two good Die Hard films IMHO and both are directed by the same guy.

It's better than DH 5 and 2 for me. I actually liked DH4 a lot when it first came out, not watched it in a while though.

Live Free or Die Hard is my second favourite Die Hard movie and I like Wiseman, love his action. The concept of this movie doesn't appeal to me at all.

Probably as there were stories about Willis being an overbearing dick on the LFODH set, but I think most people seem to struggle to get along with Bruce Willis these days.

Oh, ok. I read a comment at some site saying they didn't like each other and this would probably allow Willis to be there for 1-2 days and leave it at that.

Yeah, Willis is a grade A jerk. There’s plenty of stories out there of people talking about how awful Willis is to work with, but he’s Hollywood royalty, so he doesn’t really see any consequences, though Woody Allen did recently fire him from a movie. Willis’ PR tried to spin it as a scheduling conflict for a play.

Though i would have liked a final Bruce Willis lead Die Hard film, instead of 5 being the final one.

Exactly. This is even more creatively bankrupt than Terminator: Genisys.

Why does every single once-great franchise have to be run into the ground and then 20 feet underground?

It's not very good. I never could have imagined that it could be that bad. Jai Courtney plays his son in the movie.

The first three movies managed to play it out fairly well. Two of them were connected by the Grubers and one was just a coincedence. The whole thing fell apart in the fourth movie and the fifth one made no sense at all.

The one way I can see this franchise continuing without McClane (who I think needs to permanantly retire anyways) is by having different people end up in these otherwise outrageous situations.

The idea itself isn't new but it can all be tied into the "Die Hard" title with people who are just like McClane in the first movie.

No interconnections or tie-ins to some bigger scheme or special anything. Just someone who ends up in a situation (bank robberies or terrorists, heist, etc) that puts them in a position they have no training for and nothing but a limited amount of help surviving.

It would require more creativity and original thinking on whoever is writing out the stories but it does not need a central character to hold it together.
