I'm going to admit this right here and now. I am overweight. Not like I'm 200-300 pounds over, but I'm 50-60 pounds over. I'm ok with it, but I think a change would do wonders for me and my health. So, I turn to you guys, whom I consider my friends, to help me. Give me some advice, if you will. So, feel free to give me all the tips you want. Nothing rude, please. And, I'd like a question answered.

Slim Fast = or :down health-wise?

Work out, lift weights, treadmill, etc.

How old are you?

Just go to the local gyms. It's easier to lose weight when you're young.

See the link in my sig, particularly the parts about cardio and diet.

Don't listen to him. The sig leads to a midget porn site.

I gotta stop checking that sig :o

There's a fitness thread here somewhere...

Got it.

It shouldn't be too hard to lose weight then. I reccomend running too. And cutting out sweets and stuff.

No one's answered my query about Slim Fast. Is it a good thing to eat/drink in place of Breakfast and Lunch?

I heard Slim Fast sucks. And I hear it's nasty.

I've tried it a few times. Taste-wise it's fine, but I end up still being hungry immediately after drinking it.

I lost 30 lbs by following the Slim-Fast plan and running/walking 1 - 2 miles a day between 8th and 9th grade (it took two months).

Took a whoooole lotta willpower, though.

Slimfast is really insufficient as a meal replacement. It's adequate for a snack or lighter meal between more significant meals if you pair it with a banana or something like that. Frankly, you're better of just getting a good whey protein shake mix. It's cheaper and will taste a hell of a lot better, most likely. But for more important meals like breakfast and lunch you are better off with real food.

Agreed. Slim-Fast (while it did help me drop weight) leaves you more or less nutritionally devoid...you have to supplement your diet, really. It also works to hinder metabolism, in the long run.

Slim Fast :down It's doesn't taste that great and you'll be hungry ALL THE TIME if you try to stick to those. It's like a milkshake without the milk AND the shake. It sucks and it's a waste of valuable cash unless you have the willpower of Captain America.

My advice is simple. Walk. Wake up early, like an hour before you'd normally get up, and take a walk. At regular human walking speed, that's about 3 miles an hour. So, take that hour, and walk, briskly, 30 minutes one way, then head back. You don't have to run, but don't stroll, either. You don't want to go so fast that you have to stop for breath, but you need to get your blood pumping too, so get a move on. Wear comfy shoes, that's a definite.

You don't have to do this daily (I suggest walking on weekdays, taking Saturdays and Sundays off), but persistance is key. Every other day would probably work.

Sticking to it is the main thing. It's way easy to hit the snooze button and sleep in that early in the morning but it's a no-no. Train yourself to get up and go for your 1.5 to 2 mile walk each day.

Combine the walk with the diet of your choice (I went for a simple low-fat plan, it honestly ain't that hard, you can eat pretty well and still claim low fat, just be careful and pay attention to what you eat) and you should start seeing results in 2-4 weeks.

I'm sure the health experts will claim I'm an idiot, but I did this exact thing 10 years ago and I dropped over 60 lbs in 4 months, and aside from the waking up early part, it was easy. Even better, I stuck with it and I haven't had a weight problem since.

Get up early, get your metabolism running, pick a diet and stick to it, and walk your ass off, 2-3 miles a day.
