I noticed it moreso now than I did in the 80's, but directors like Spielberg, Zemeckis, Joe Johnston(both of which were proteges of Spielbergo), Lucas, Chris Columbus and the like almost always seemed to do similar genres or produce and direct each other's films. I know a lot of them were from the same Chicago area, like Columbus, Hughes, Landis, etc., which explained some of it. Are there any other director cliques you're aware of?

Tarantino and Rodriguez should buy a friggin' house together.

Paul Anderson and Uwe Boll maybe?

For me, I enjoy the troupe of Spike Jonze, Charlie Kaufman, Sofia Coppola, Michel Gondry, and David O. Russel the most. They, together, have put out such films as: Adaptation, Three Kings, Lost in Translation, Being John Malkovich, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, and tons of other fantastic films. In short, they are all friends that help one another in one way or another on each of their projects, and I've never seen a product from any of them that I didn't completely love.

Ha! Yeah, thier styles are incredibly similar. Although I doubt we'll see Tarantino doing any kids movies.

While one has done mocumentaries (although that's changed with his new movie) and the other has done "regular" films, I think there are a lot of similarities between the work of Christopher Guest and the work of Wes Anderson. Both employ ensemble casts and both employ this humor that's deadpan, sarcastic and emotionally tense many times. There's goofiness to the humor but it's not goofy like slapstick is goofy.
