Directors we need to see more of

To be honest i wouldn't list either of these two here. Simply because they have just made 1 movie. Let's see if their following movies are as good or better then their first features.
Too often you see directors making an powerful impact with their first features and subsequently lose it .

If you list guys like Cuaron or Paul Thomas Anderson then yes i can see why people would want to see more movies from them in the future. Jones & Blomkamp....not there yet IMO.

yes they only have 1 full picture each, but thats why we want to see more of them. Its hard to guage their actual abilities off of just 1 movie, therefore we are excited to see more of their work. I mean the original posters pick was a guy who make music videos. how is this any less qualifying?

Peter Weir. Been an awfully long time since Master and Commander.

thread-necromancy1.png

decided to perform a little thread necromancy here, usually I just let my threads die but this one seemed to being well for a bit and it's a topic of great interest to me.
now let's see, directors I'd like to see more of...Jonathan Hensleigh, I finally got around to seeing kill the irishman a few weeks back and I really wish this guy would direct more movies (I also enjoyed his Punisher film, although I don't think it's perfect, it was his first directing gig after all).
Now this is a man who knows how to direct the sh** out of an explosion. He makes it an art form. Unlike people who just throw them in because they look cool like Michael Bay and Brett Ratner, when Hensleigh shoots an explosion, there's a real gravity to it, it's a big deal. He doesn't just show the explosion, he shows the surrounding area being affected by the explosion, the relationship between the explosion and the surrounding environment.
idk, I would love to see action movies from this guy, he has a real old school quality to him, mostly because he was an old school action screenwriter lol.

Shane Black
Mathew Vaugh
Ben Affleck

I'm allways for Thread Necromancy :D

well you're in luck in the shane black department, I forsee iron man 3 doing wonders for his career. another one I look forward to seeing more of is Drew Goddard, Cabin in the Woods was probably my favorite movie of the year.

I agree with Jonathan Hensleigh.

Rupert Sanders for definite. I didn't think that Snow White was particularly that fantastic but I did think it was stylishly and well directed. Perhaps Marvel should tap him for Guardians of the Galaxy.

Paul McGuigan
Neil Burger
Kerry Conran
Michael J. Bassett

And while he's a fairly big name now he seems to take his time between films but I'd like to see Alex Proyas doing more stuff. I'd actually love to see him do a mo-cap Thundercats.

I need some more Steve McQueen and Blomkamp movies. 12 Years a Slave and Elysium are sounding amazing.

Forgot about one.

Joss Whedon

What the hell happened to Todd Fields?

Frank Darabont's only directed 11 movies. C'mon man....

anybody know what happened with Joe Dante's "The Hole?" I was looking forward to seeing a feature film return from him. same goes for john landis, anyone see that movie did like two years ago, burke & hare I think it was called?

^Definitely with you on Joe Dante. The A.V. Club just did a Primer on him, and it mentioned The Hole in the "Intermediate work" section (not a particularly ringing endorsement), but didn't shed any light on why it hasn't been released in the U.S. or whether it will.

Jaco Van Dormael who Directed the highly underrated Sci Fi Film Mr. Nobody

Definatly FRANK DARABONT. This guy is a genius, he needs to tackle a new project. Only 4 films in 18 years. Ugh.

maybe now that he's cut ties with walking dead he'll focus on getting another film off the ground. Oh and Joe Cornish. Maybe Marvel will try to snag him for something. Drew Goddard for a new hulk film would probably put me in a coma from how awesome that news would be.

fox already snatched him up for a comic book movie:oldrazz:

Where the hell did Pierre Morrel go? Hopefully Neil Marshall manages to get a greenlight on Hellfest, or his Dracula film with Viggo mortensen.

Also I'm real glad to see Guillermo Del Toro has wrapped a film and The Wachowskis have a film releasing in a few months, with another in pre-production.

David Koepp.

I seriously want him to tackle another King tale.

^Koepp's next movie is actually coming out soon, Premium Rush, with Joseph Gordon-Levitt. I don't know if I'm informing you of that or if you already knew, but yeah, he has something coming.

Nancy Oliver (Lars and the Real Girl)
Tamara Jenkins (The Savages)
Scott Frank (The Lookout)
Garth Jennings (Hithchhiker's Guide, Son of Rambow)
Courtney Hunt (Frozen River)
