🇺🇸 Discussion: Abortion II

US News

I hope Lucas Kunce ties himself to the MO abortion constitutional amendment (which just got certified for the Nov ballot) and paints Hawley as the guy to override it by voting for a federal abortion ban.

I'll be surprised if it doesn't pass. It has in every other state that put it to the voters.

The attorney general and Secretary of State in Arkansas are fighting to keep the abortion amendment off the ballot (just like Missouri did) and the case is being determined at the AR Supreme Court. The ARLG has a solid case to get it back on the ballot but the makeup of the court is very conservative… it could go either way.

If the ARSC overrules the SOS and AG and forces them to add the abortion amendment, it would a big win for pro choice voters in the state. While their abortion amendment isn’t up to viability, the 18-20 week limit allows for 98-99% availability. And it would keep Smoky Eyed Sarah and her compliant R state majority from imposing barriers like unnecessary ultrasounds or a waiting period.

Ever since Ohio enshrined abortion protections into their state constitution, more OB-GYN practitioners are going there again. I expect the same for SD, NE, MO and AZ beginning next year (FL needs a 60% supermajority so that’s a bit iffier).

It’s going to take federal law to undo the bans in states like Texas and Idaho.

Lies again.
