I hate "pro life" as a term. It's more accurate to call them anti-choice or anti-rights because they don't care about the life of the mother, the life of the fetus when it becomes an infant that may have debilitating or detrimental health defects that would only cause suffering. And that's just using their "pro life" stance, not even including every other valid reason an abortion might be done.
They only care about being “pro-life” insofar as what their offspring will do for them, how they reflect on them and how they will further their parents’ legacy when they are dead and gone, ensuring that they effectively remain “immortal”. Maybe there’s a little bit of genuine kindness and generosity in some cases, but generally, at the end of the day, it’s all about them. Means to an end.
It’s a bad movie, but it’s like in The Rise of Skywalker when Palpatine drains the “Force” energy from Rey and Ben to rejuvenate himself to prolong his life to avoid dying, because he fears death and being forgotten. That’s essentially the way it is for conservative parents. They say they believe in God and heaven, but really deep down they are very unsure, and they let that fear drive their decisions towards their children, in very unhealthy and sometimes destructive ways that can ruin them mentally and emotionally years down the line.
I remember my mom watching video of some friend she knows, who also shares the same beliefs as her. No joke, in the video, she basically said that children are the résumé for the parents, and that if the children aren’t properly reflecting the parents, then it’s a bad résumé. It made me so mad on the inside, but I didn’t want to make a scene.
My mom said one time of raising me and my younger two siblings, “Did I do or say anything wrong?”, with just a tiny bit of self-awareness. I don’t know, Mom, my sister and her husband are left leaning, my brother and his wife are fiscally conservative but socially liberal, and I’m a progressive transwoman. Maybe the thing that you did wrong was not realizing and failing to teach us that there are other things existing beyond your narrow-minded bubble and we just came to realize it later on in life. Ever think of that?
/end long rant
Can you tell this is a really personal topic for me?
