Discussion: Abortion II

This law was deliberately written as a big **** you to anyone who even remotely believes abortions are sometimes necessary. I don't know of any woman who has ever casually decided to get an abortion like they decided it wasn't worth it. That is never an easy choice to make but it should be hers, not the state and a bunch of hypocritcal *******s who think they know better even though they know nothing and care even less.

Reuters - Mexican Supreme Court decriminalizes abortion in historic shift

Mexico's Supreme Court unanimously ruled on Tuesday that penalizing abortion is unconstitutional, a major victory for advocates of women's health and human rights, just as parts of the United States enact tougher laws against the practice.

The court ruling in the majority Roman Catholic nation follows moves to decriminalize abortion at state level, although most of the country still has tough laws in place against women terminating their pregnancy early. "This is a historic step for the rights of women," said Supreme Court Justice Luis Maria Aguilar.

A number of U.S. states have recently taken steps to restrict women's access to abortion, particularly Texas, which last week enacted the strictest anti-abortion law in the country after the U.S. Supreme Court declined to intervene.

The Mexican ruling opens the door to the possibility for the release of women incarcerated for having had abortions. It could also lead to U.S. women in states such as Texas deciding to travel south of the border to terminate their pregnancies. In July, the state of Veracruz became just the fourth of Mexico's 32 regions to decriminalize abortion.

So here’s what I’m wondering. Why couldn’t the federal government set up clinics in states and staff them with some federal workers? It seems to me that that would strengthen the case the DOJ has brought.

About time someone used this "religious rights" bull**** to stick it back at them.

Those so-called Christian conservatives probably had affairs with many women and forced them to have abortions. There is no better organization in the world to sue those hypocrites than these atheist's days like this as a male feminist. I hate being a man what the GOP is doing is oppressive Roe v Wade is the law the Supreme Court made it, so this is crazy we are going in reverse, not forward, and that's just insane! They have no respect for Women, not even our great Vice President!

Stimulating interstate travel during a pandemic spreads covid and threatens public health and safety. Not to mention it forces pregnant women to endure a long physically exhausting drive during which they are thinking about and possibly agonizing over their choice to have the procedure.

I don't really understand the endgame here. Do they want to stop the move to Texas by democratic voters? The state is trending blue and this will only increase the speed.

They want to move the Handmaid's Tale down to Texas.
